If you put just one magnet in the bar, I guess that's not enough to create a field thru the entire bar or maybe it want's to put N and S up and down? It's an interesting problem. You're solution seems to have worked great though.

What are you using to power the tach and speed controller? Do you need to buy another power source and does it hurt the motor to have a speed control ( like a dimmer ) when you dial in the speed that you want to run at? I would like to do that on both my lathe and the bridgeport.

Great video. I am looking to do the same modification. Do you think it's possible to get a double read if two adjacent magnets are not facing straight?

Hello again, I'm wondering how important the choice of magnets is. I checked the site your referenced, and there are dozens of options that would physically fit for this application...just curious if you chose those specific magnets for a reason. Thank you.

Off topic a bit. Can you share info on your CNC conversion? I want to do the same thing.

So our options are tachometer or power drawbar eh ? This sucks… I already bought and installed the DRO that has the RPM option on it. Nice 👍🏻 🫤
