  • Since the rise of Euro-nymphing styles in the global nymphing scene, the need for fly anglers to have weighted shrimp imitations sky rocketed. In rivers and lakes where they are present, shrimps provide trout and grayling with a year round, plentiful food source. However, these flies work just as well in rivers that don't hold substaintial shrimp populations too!
There are some really technical patterns out there tied by expert fly tyers that specialise in the art of creating weighted shrimps.
What the 'UV Rainbow Shrimp' gives you is a perfectly simple and easy to follow pattern that enables fly Tyers of all abilities to ensure their fly box holds some of these super effective, must have flies.
I like to use these patterns for sight nymphing and covering pressured fish especially. When most other anglers are covering the water with beaded flies, sometimes a bead-less pattern such as this one can really be the difference.
    Materials List:
    Hook: Size 8 Heavyweight Grub
    Underbody: 1mm Lead Wire Strips
Body Dubbing: Kindale UV Squirrel & Hare Rainbow Dubbing
    Rib: 0.1mm Copper Wire
    Shell: Shrimp Back, Orange
    Thread: Semperfli nano-silk, 12/0, Black
    As always, thanks for watching!
