That would make sense from a musical standpoint, but if you listen to the record you can hear it is B - C - C# - Bb (4,5,6,3) as he plays it. Sounds strange at first, but that’s jazz for you.
What does the 'v' shape under some of the tab notes mean? I know this line | is a single note, but not sure if the 'v' is played differently

Guess you're talking about the 8th that are a 16th longer. This is shown as a"v" with a small dot on the right hand side. The tone is played with a duration of 3 16th notes. Hope that explains it properly?

sounds very rigid, I suggest listening to the Tiny Desk version where Sting plays while singing. Amazing cover tho.
Don't know where those tabs are from because there are WAY too many passing/ghost notes in what you are playing.
