Should also mention that grounded up-b leaves ice on the ground. If you start adding in grounded up b wavelands to platforms during combos, its a good way to leave ice patches too
Great overview on the character. He's clicking a lot more for me compared to RoA 1 so I'll def be picking him up. Underrated channel I will be subbing.
The fact that the input straight up does not work on a jump cancel is criminal. Zetter can do it off his stupid-ass shine, why can't Etalus do it with HIS jump cancel!?!?!?
@ I agree 😣 if you’ve ever played Ike in PM, he can jc grab out of his side b and I thought that’s what’s etalus would be like. Hopefully theyll make that change since everyone is complaining he’s weak.
@ I've been told the fact he can JC on shield is too much and I'm like: "In a game with parry, you think shield pressure is too much?? In this game with 0 fucking blockstun????"
I'm really hoping they look into the possibility of moving the wavedash lockout on dash attack and putting it on wavedash cancel grab instead. It's painfully obvious they just don't want wavedash cancel grab to be a thing, but he shouldn't lose his movement options just to prevent a single broken option, when they could just lockout that single option instead.
@ i agree, but in rivals one, it did legitimately get a speed increase on ice iirc, and this was taken away in rivals 2, which a lot of etalus players are sad about
Good guide, but i do think his best clmbo starter out of neutral is dash attack. It sets up dash attack-nair loops if DI away, and then DA->Nair-Nair->Uair etc on DI in. I feel like that make his bad disadvantage worth it, because he does have a good punish game
I would love to know how to deal with crouch cancelling as Etalus. Actually I'd like to know in general, but the built in counterplay (grab/spikes) doesnt work for slower characters.
Etalus is not a slow character by any means. dash attack jump grab. slide on ice grab. or just stop using the moves that can be ccd until they are past that %
@@LooseToots Dash Attack jump grab loses to crouch cancel Though, since you're inputting the attack regardless of whether you get hit, the attack beats the empty land. Slide grab has the same issue since they're inputting the attack on a delay anyway you'll just get hit if they're doing it correctly And avoid CC'able moves has been my go to so far, but I figured I'd ask in case the video creator wanted to make a video on it or had insights beyond "you have to space Fair for the first 40% of every match". I do agree etalus can be fast, just not in the way that characters like Clairen or Maypul are. And those limitations are really important imo. Thanks for the insight though
you cannot attack while crouching unless it is a dtilt. What you are describing is sdi down. CC is an entirely different mechanic and must be done BEFORE the hit lands on you. SDI down is during/after.
@@LooseToots Right, they're different, but you can crouch up until the moment you expect an attack to hit you then input a tilt on the c-stick. If you get hit, you'll CC it, if the opponent does an empty option like empty jump grab then you'll tilt. Option Selects like that are super common in games like Street Fighter and all the players over 1600 I fight do it again my Fleet. My Etalus isn't up that high yet, but it's definitely not as bad as it was as Fleet
@ Also, I totally underestimated Etalus ice wavedash as a burst movement option. Played some sets today for practice and you're absolutely right, it's way too fast to realistically do a CC option select. Especially with Etalus' 5 frame jab having decent range, and DTilt beating CC on most characters You were totally right on that one
I'm pretty sure freezing the shield doesn't actually reduce shield regen like in rivals 1(even though the wiki still says that) i tested this, the frozen shiek does seem to be much easier to break though
@@LooseToots I wish he wasnt so restricted which is why I think hes not good therefore i dont have as much fun playing him. Ranno is good but the character is so straight foward with poke and bubble combos I find he insanly boring. Etelus has a cool design but is restricted unlike Ranno, Wrastor, or Clarien.
His recovery is awful and shouldn't be in rivals 2. Every other character was changed to not have that style of recovery anymore. And I can't take Rivals 1 seriously as a competative game because of recoveries like it. Because like Etalus in Rivals 2 now, in rivals 1, edgeguarding was a boring endless rinse and repeat. (usually stand on stage, and wait to parry/forwardsmash -> repeat.) But here in this game, Etalus can gimp all these worse recoveries at 30%. And he himself can survive almost any gimp attempt unless he's past 120%. TBH lazy to not give him a new recovery for this game. really frustering and does not inspire confidence for returning characters fitting alongside the cast with new recoveries and edgeguarding.

Didn’t mention that you get your upb back after landing up air (which is great for edge guarding)
Woah, I didn't know that. Super useful to know, Etalus's edge guarding is wild good.

I only wish he could wavedash or jc grab after slide. I feel like that would open up so many more options
Fr being able to grab outta dash attack would be so goof
Good *

Watching this as a Lox main to counter him harder (and support a great Rivals 2 youtuber) >:3
1:28 dash attack doesn’t gain speed on ice😢
I think it feels faster because it maintains its higher momentum for longer

6:43 this joke was unBEARable ahahaha get it.... heart my comment for more comedy lmao

Adorable thumbnail lol
Yoo Ty ❤️
Wish Etalus was good he’s so cool
Why does a character have to be good? if that was all that mattered 100% of the playerbase would be ranno.
@@LooseTootshe didn’t say that was all that mattered

watching this as a Clairen player to know what to deprive Etalus of
(would have played Shovel Knight had he come over)
You forgot to mention that you can airdodge while youre charging your upb, its really important for mixing up his recovery
Cool video :)
Your delivery reminds me of Nathan from Nathan for you. Not a bad thing!
Far less awkward though, lol
