  • This is the first in a series of four warmup and practice sessions that Steven Mead gave on Facebook LIVE through his Steven Mead Euphonium Club Page on Wednesday 15th April 2020.
After the introductions and welcomes Steven analyses the situation that many people find themselves in terms of their practice routines, how to overcome bad habits, and sets about it by outlining some basic issues that can easily be addressed with patience and understanding. Then some routines with breathing, stretching, mouthpiece buzzing, lip 'flapping', first warm-ups, ensuring quality of sound, relaxation, focused and positivity! It also begins the topic of lip flexibility, set concentrating on airflow, smoothness and direction, and then the final section is getting the tongue responsive with clear single tongue action, and one or two introductory exercises for this.
Watch out for the other three in the series.

I listen to your classes on youtube with subtitles slowly. I had learned at conservatory for long times but I didn't understand the lessons very much. With reflection of my weak oral comprehension, I listen to your English attentively with relux. You speak so nice language that I saw my weak point this period of lockdown.

Living in an apartment (which having the tv volume on 2 is plenty loud), I had to put my tv on fairly loud for the buzzing exercise. The 2018 IIHF Canada vs the US was good 'white noise' in order to keep my practicing from being too loud. I use the Silent Brass Mute when practicing.
