I don't listen to Tom the most, but having been down similar paths, this goes hard and heavy for being fairly subtle. They say a lot changes in a year, it does. One year ago, I was isolated in a different state away from all my family, having failed a dream and trying my best, while receiving constant news of different family members that were about dead. My bed was a bathtub surround for a few hours a night in a house under construction, outside of that, my other bed was a dip in the dirt where you couldn't see me from the street. I had $0 and my car had been stolen, no way to get home just 8 months of summer on the streets in 110 degree weather. My best friends were the squirrels in the park where I'd sleep sometimes and an old lady and her dog. Fast forward a little over one year where am I at? I'm sitting at my computer in my apartment my partner of over a year sleeping in our bed, my cats at her foot and my dogs out in his bed. The rent is paid and the bills are covered, my bosses are all promoting me as fast as they can. I turned a 9-5 into a full career so I can be a family man. I didn't realize how blessed I was until last night. I was sipping drinks with my brother in law while my lady and her brother played games. All of us just shooting the shit. I love music and would love to make some of my own, this song just inspires that further. If Tom can come out of his dark hell and I can pass through my own crucible, then goddammit Tom has made me realize we can do anything. Love you brothers, you remind me of me and my brother.
