A short lesson on Slim Shady for everyone new to Eminem. Slim Shady is an alter-ego Eminem has, but Eminem doesn't go from himself to Slim when ever he wants. Slim is Eminem when is is on Drugs, but not weed, when he is high on prescription painkillers that he had. Eminem soon took the drugs and started writing songs when he was high, hence Slim's creation. Due to the demand for Slim more then Eminem himself, Eminem soon overdosed on the drugs to supply the demand for Slim. Eminem soon went to rehab and got better. Sadly he got his hand back on the drugs and went on Relapse (hence one of his albums being named Relapse). Again Eminem tried to get better and had a Recovery (hence Recover his album). Now Eminem in the music video shows that Slim Shady is no longer him and that Slim is in the past and Eminem is himself again, Marshall Bruce Mathers III.

Paul Trow What the fuck is everyone's problem, all the guy is doing is explaining the slim vs eminem dilemma for new listeners. There is nothing wrong with that; he isn't being some smart ass or pretentious about it. The only problem I've noticed is the relapse reference because in Recovery, quoting one of his songs, he says, "Encore I was on drugs, Relapse I was flushing them out." and I could be wrong on that note.
Thank god this man is a legend and deserves praise for everything that he has put out and we need to cherish the music and the legacy that this man has left.

I think the biggest thing about the song is the irony of chorus but he chooses to do with Slim. He keeps him locked up in a box in his own mind and you can see Slim does not fuck with him at all.
True, but I think the scene of him keeping Slim locked in a box described his mind state when making the Recovery album. He had to keep Shady out of that album to show everyone he was clean of crazy drugs & sick of sticking with that persona (explaining his natural hair color), taming his evil side. But after listening to "Bad Guy" (angry Shady possessing Matthew to drown Em) & "Evil Twin" on MMLP2, we see that he has fully accepted Shady as a part of him, which is why the chorus of "Monster" is the way it is, & why his hair is dyed again.
He & Shady have had rough times in the past, but he has now tamed his evil side & is friends with his monster.

I'm so glad i'm one of those kids that grew up in the 80's and purchased his first, well first signed album The slim shady LP in 1999, i got the special Edition uk version :)
Recovery was good yea, and MMLP2 but they're nothing compared to his broke days, he expressed anger and hate with love and he made the world understand that you should work hard for your success. Kid's today i feel sorry for because they will never know what it was like to live through the 90's. if i had a time machine i would go back, back to the days of hip-hop and punk music.
Eminem's Rock bottom from Slim shady LP i purchased when i was like 16 in 1999/2000 and it was the most powerful track i have ever listened to, even today i listen to this one track !!
