When I was 12 my mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer and was only given 6 months to live, and even if she made it past those six months, doctors told her she was unlikely to reach 57. She turned 60 two weeks ago and she's doing really well. Ageing is a privilege and it's beautiful, no matter the wrinkles , the gray hairs...I'm turning 25 this year and although I'm constantly melancholic because I can't believe I'm not a child anymore, I love celebrating birthdays and ageing, it means you're alive and you get to live, getting old is actually great!
I’m really glad your Momma defied the odds! Her family doesn’t care about her “looking old,” they want to spend time with her! Here’s wishing she continues to defy those odds.
Girl , don't fret your childhood being gone . I was like that around your age , and I just keep enjoying my life more and more as I age . I'm turning 43 this month and I'm the happiest and most confident I've ever been . I'm very happy that your mother defied expectations , sending you both love and joy .
I find myself correcting people often “she looks good for her age” NO she looks good. Age has nothing to do with it. I also think I look better with lower placement makeup. I don’t think it ages me at all.
@@kerriwright4593This is one I never understood. “Prettiness” is usually referring to someone’s face anyway, so to specify someone has a pretty face just feels like you want to make sure they know you think the rest of them is unappealing.
That girl said "preserve your natural beauty" as if natural lines and wrinkles are the opposite of beauty. I'm 41. I'm aging. It is what it is. Aging happens and it's beautiful.
And what that girl doesn’t know is that Botox makes you age faster by reducing facial muscle tone. She will look awful by 45. Because she will continue to do Botox to fix the damage from previous Botox in a downward spiral. And her face will be ugly regardless because you won’t be able to see her facial expressions. Life is not a photograph. People see you in person. And without facial expressions a person looks at best dumb and at worst creepy.
Yep, that got me too. I think ageism is one of the worst forms of discrimination which is not talked about enough. Based on social media, as a woman, you are only allowed to age "gracefully" (this word is usually used in the context of botox, fillers, etc.). Sorry, I age how I age. I take care of my physical and mental health as best as I can, but that doesn't mean I deserve less respect if I don't look like 20 year old while I'm 34. People have different lifestyles, genetics, culture, etc.
Aging is a privilege denied to many. As someone who almost didn’t make it to 39 (by my own actions at the time), I am CELEBRATING the fact that I’ll be 51 in a couple of weeks. And for anyone who thinks older women can’t be absolutely beautiful, I have two words. Helen Mirren.
I know too many people who overdosed and won't be seeing those dreaded wrinkles...or their kids growing up, having grandkids, etc. I don't love everything about aging, but it is a gift. I'm glad you're still here!
And Glen Close. And Meryl Streep. And Julia Roberts. So many beautiful women. I think a lot of people could stand to spend the money they are injecting into their faces to travel someplace to see how much of a privilege getting older really is.
I had a good friend who died at 49 of COPD from smoking. When I say "good friend", I mean "sister of my heart." I miss her every day. And a lot of people died young of Covid. Not all the deaths were elderly people.
The cheek thing confuses me because my cheeks have become much sharper as I've aged. Many young people have chubby cheeks. Romantic painters used to accentuate the cheeks and give everyone rounder features than they already had for that very reason. Have you ever seen a classical painting of a woman with a 'snatched' face??? No. What we even associate with youth changes dramatically, not just what we associate with beauty.
Not only will you say your life is better when you're in your 40s but you will say it every decade. I'm 64 and life is getting better every year. And though my face is showing age for the first time, the trade-off is wisdom and peace, and that price is well worth it.
I'm 36 and I always say not everyone does their makeup with the goal of fitting into a beauty standard. It doesn't need to make you look younger, it doesn't need to "balance" your face, it doesn't need to "lift," it doesn't have to "hide your imperfections" or "enhance" anything, it can just be there because you wanted to put it on or because you want to express yourself creatively or whatever. Not everyone's goal is to look younger and "prettier" with makeup. Thank you so much for this video and for ALL of your videos that discuss topics like this!!
I'm 72, and have accomplished a lot in my life. My face shows it, hopefully showing confidence and wisdom and kindness. Makeup is just to help me look my best. None of it makes me look younger, although I get a lot of compliments on my skin.
I’m turning 50 this year. It is extremely difficult to live in an ageist society. I lost my dad a couple years ago at age 66 right before he was set to retire. I am aging, but I am also living. Thank you for this helpful reminder Kelli.
@@sarahbjohnson2328 Sorry to hear about your dad…way too young and just before retirement! So sad. We need to live NOW and embrace each day we are on the top side of the grass.
Americans (not sure where u live) really should use their PTO if they get any. We don't get much vacation time in most jobs, while Europeans get more. It's important to enjoy time to relax and have fun before you get old. Not all of us get to retirement age, and it's a crime against humanity to expect people to work until they are not youthful and energetic anymore.
Most excellent! At 75, I consider myself a masterpiece of living art. Whatever look I choose to create is a reflection of the uniqueness of my journey through life. It is inevitable that we age…this said, we who live long are the lucky ones. It’s not only ok to embrace the aging process, but to marvel at the changes we go through as we expand into our accumulated years. It’s also fun.
I love pushing back on strict makeup and fashion 'rules.' They kill our individuality and creativity. You're part of a carefully curated group of influencers I watch because you speak so positively about people finding their own personal makeup styles that they love. I enjoy learning about different trends and techniques and choosing what feels authentic to ME.
this! what’s the point of using makeup to express yourself if you’re just being bullied to do it EXACTLY like everyone else and hide the features that make you, YOU?
Just wanted to say Kelly - I don’t comment on YT videos often but I have been a long time subscriber of yours and I’ve always enjoyed your content, but in the past 2 years or so your content has been really impactful for me. Your makeup musings and deep dives into trends and brands have made me a more thoughtful and aware consumer and I really appreciate how you are using your platform lately. The perspectives you’ve been sharing lately have made me take a look inward and examine and be intentional about my choices when it comes to beauty. Anyway just wanted to say your target audience is being reached!!
Thank you for making this video. I turned 50 this summer and I am not interested in looking younger. I am proud to be 50 and all of my experiences that got me here. I want to look my best without a doubt, but I am not interested in fillers, lasers, or what makeup technique looks best on "older" people. I am constantly bombarded with titles such as "how to look younger or are you aging yourself". It is ridiculous and the obsession with youth is scary to me. It should always be about what you like, everyones face is shaped different and that is what needs to be considered. Not what an influencer says you should be doing because the way you have always done it is wrong.
I really appreciate these videos. I'm 73, and wear a full face of makeup every day. I don't worry about whether or not it's "youthful". I earned every line and wrinkle I have!
I'm Uchinaanchu (indigenous Okinawan) on my mom's side, and most of the Uchinaanchu people I knew growing up were all my grandmother's age. I spent a lot of time at her house and at her friends' houses. Uchinaachu culture emphasizes respecting one's elders because of the knowledge they have gained over their lives. I feel like my family's culture, plus having parents who were in their 30s when they had me (and their friends also being in their 30s), has made me feel less afraid of growing old.
loving this topic so far bc truly I do not relate! I cannot understand why everyone is so 'scared' to look their age! I truly embrace my age and hope to inspire others to do/feel the same - thank for this video!
I’m 47 and I do my makeup for myself. That’s another great side effect of getting older. You no longer care what others think, nor do you care about appeasing others. Your makeup is always on-point, Kelly. And Crystal Slipper is the best color!! ❤
I’m 64 and I do me. I color my hair and do my makeup because I like to. I’m not trying to look younger, I’m just being me. Nature happens and it’s beautiful. My mom is 95 and she is beautiful and amazing. Just love her♥️
aging is a privilege not all of us will have! I'm 35 and it has been really good for my mental health and self esteem to unfollow many younger beauty/style influencers and replace them in my feed with women/folks in their 40s/50s/60s+
People who live good and holy lives glow as they age. They seem to reflect the radiance of Heaven as they approach. People who die in a state of grace very often lose their wrinkles and aged look moments before death. I have witnessed this rather astonishing event twice. The day she passed away my very devout and loving mother in law looked like a young girl, and she was 82 and of course very ill. It's this strange thing almost like a miracle. Fulton Sheen said age is a measure of how close you are to God. As an old man, he said he was trying to grow younger because he was growing towards God. We are bodies and souls.
it’s so tough to break out of this mindset, i wanted to “correct” you and tell you that makeup that helps people look younger is “better”. which is such toxic nonsense that clearly i’ve been brainwashed into believing. thank you for your commentary and helping us all think critically about beauty ❤ as beauty is beauty, no matter how old you are.
Hi Kelly. I just adore you. On the one hand I could be very cynical and say it’s easy to have a pro aging stance when you’re 30 and you’re still, ldarling as society would deem-of course, I think so too. ❤But the fact that you are so young and you get that aging is the reward is so refreshing and so affirming to me. Im a 55 year-old woman who has, battled lots of body issues and others. I survived breast cancer three years ago and radiation and have been taking tamoxifen for 3 years, to block my estrogen. And while it helps to keep me alive it wreaks havoc in other areas, like my skin and weight gain, etc. But I’m here, I have a very good chance of being here a great long while. I am so grateful that your channel exists, and it’s giving me a sort of a hug I needed so that I can go in and play with my make up-not really going for any desired outcome, rather than just having fun basically putting paint on my canvas. All that to say, thank you.
Wrinkles, scars, etc. are emblematic of a life LIVED! I turned 50 this year, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I had to fight to get here (story for another day), and I make NO apologies for an "extra wrinkle" when I smile/cry/laugh. Those wrinkles show that you have lived your life, and that's a good thing. Yes, I take care of my skin as best I can and believe we all should; however, LIFE should be the GOAL...not erasing it. 🙏💜
I love these thoughtful videos. Funny enough, I think the "boyfriend" blush is more "true to youth". It reminds me of how a normal kid looks like after running around outdside for an hour. Kids don't do that so much nowadays so you don't see it much, but I see that style of blush as more natural lol. Kids' faces tend to look flushed down, not up, lol. And I love the downturned liner... it reminds me of Precious Moments, lol! But what do I know... I also don't like to show skin when I dress soooo maybe I'm "old-fashioned". 😅 many blessings! Great topics!
I love what you’re doing here. I’m so exhausted of hearing about how to look younger. For so many years as kids we can’t wait to look older! I make it my business to seek out dynamic, interesting, beautiful and creative women over the age of 50 who have chosen to do little to no “anti-aging” procedures to fill up my Instagram feed with so that those are the faces that I see everyday. It’s the best, so refreshing.
Turned fifty in January. The year I turned forty I broke out of my people pleasing prison. Since that time I have learned to embrace my age. I feel powerful. I feel sexy. I feel beautiful. With my wrinkles. With my cellulite. With my scars from bi lateral hip replacements. I am still working on loving my double chin but progress not perfection. I have learned who I am. What I want. What I do not want. I will never again put myself into a smaller box based on others thoughts feeling and opinions. If I could give younger women one super power…..it would be to embrace themselves and the power inside themselves. Play with the makeup and find what you love. And learn to feel powerful. Despite others thoughts feelings and opinions. The subtle art of not giving a ---- the joys of embracing your crone energy. Read women who run with wolves. So much love to our beauty community.
I heard someone say “I wear makeup to look fancy, not to look pretty.” I feel like this is a similar reframing of our thought process, where looking “better” (according to others) isn’t necessarily the goal.
Thank you so much for this! I hate being told I shouldn’t enjoy having round cheeks or be comfortable with my new wrinkles. I just want to look like me amped up when I wear makeup.
I just turned 40 and embracing how I look and ageing gracefully, smile lines and wrinkles tell the story of our life and we have laughed, cried and had emotions
I tried that lifted blush look once and thought I looked like an alien. My face is naturally narrow, so I need some blush on the apples of my cheeks to look good.
As someone who battled anorexia for over a decade & is now nearing 40 I'm sick & tired of trying to fit in to a caricature of youthful (of course anorexia is more than that but still heavily influenced by the beauty community). I wasted so many years worrying about this sh*t I'm now not happy but at least content in my own skin ❤😊
My honest opinion is that high blush makes most people look older than low blush. Buccal fat is a very youthful feature! Contouring it all away (or removing it surgically) fits a trend that young people like right now, but it actually mimics the natural aging our faces go through, ie the diminishment of those fat stores. Especially when I was younger (teens and early twenties), I found SO many style choices to look "old." I couldn't fathom why my mother would wear jeans she felt flattered her shape instead of current trends. Unfortunately, I don't think any messaging could have reached me enough to change my mind. I needed some wisdom from living!
I naturally have color low on my cheeks. Foundation doesn't cover it all. So what can I do? I do apply blush on the higher areas of my natural blush, but that color is still there. My thinking on this is "f*** it."
@@20thcenturyrelic I definitely would encourage you to embrace your natural coloring! But if sometimes you want to change it up, too, you can try a green color corrector (green cancels red).
Trends come and go and the lifting thing has stuck around for a little while but it’ll shift at some point too. The ideal face shape shifts with time. The ideal body shape shape shifts with time. It’s a moving target and the older I get the more I see that and the more comfortable I get with just ignoring it and doing what makes me happy. The flattering thing with clothing really spoke to me. I am someone who is naturally very curvy and that has only intensified since I started working out. Some people might say I have a pear shape, I don’t necessarily agree with that. Anyway, the conventional wisdom to balance out my figure to make me look one way or the other is something I’ve always battled against because I actually don’t like how that makes me look. I like to lean into my shape the way it is, not try and make it something else. Always have. And the same thing goes with my makeup. I think that mindset, that you need to change yourself to look a certain way, is a lot of what can rob women of their confidence. Your shape, your face, who you are, is beautiful. You don’t need to be someone else.
Omg, YES! More people need to see this video! ❤ I turn 40 next year, and I’ve definitely noticed changes just this past year. Seeing all the youthful advertising can be hard sometimes because if you don’t look that way, you feel “not as pretty” anymore because you’re aging. But reminding ourselves that we are blessed to even be aging when a lot of people didn’t get that chance is something to appreciate instead of hate. Your makeup here looks absolutely gorgeous on you, by the way, and I have to say I love the “thinner” brows on you as well as the “downturn” eyeliner!! ☺️🫶
Kelly, I love following your content for this exact reason!! You frequently subvert the expectations and trends floating around the internet and connect with what is real in all of us. As someone who is in their 30s, loving it and newly trying to get into makeup, it's so refreshing to see someone embracing their natural and beautiful features ❤
I’m thrilled that you put this out there. I’ve been extolling the blessing of aging for sometime. Think of all the souls that didn’t get to. It took me awhile to embrace it - due to paying too much attention to various magazines, commercials, etc. So thank you for this!!
I am about to turn 44 and I believe this is sincerely the best time period in my life. I just feel the most secure and confident. 🤪 Thank you for the video, I appreciate you ands your content.
I am 24 and so sick of seeing the negative attitude towards older people, but women especially. PEOPLE, there is only ONE way to stop aging, and when it happens to young people we call it a tragedy! Aging is such a beautiful gift that sadly not all are fortunate to have. We need to stop this damaging rhetoric
I love this! I’m approaching 42 and I don’t do my makeup to look youthful or flattering. Makeup to me is an expression of who I am and it’s not always pretty but it makes me look interesting. And it makes me sad that young girls think Botox is “preventative care” and “preserving natural beauty” when it’s anything but that. There’s a big difference between taking care of your skin for the future and injecting questionable fillers to stop aging. I’ve earned every wrinkle and eye bag and jowl! 😊
I'll be 46 next month and will continue to wear eyeshadow. I'll probably be wearing eyeshadow when I die. I've already lost count of how many friends and relatives I've outlived. My life gets better with each decade.
I mostly agree with your stance especially as a kinda older adult woman. I’m 53. I think the younger generations have an advantage over the older ones in that’s they have been subject to anti smoking campaigns and also the affects sun damage. Though I do agree that it is a wonderful thing to be able to embrace the aging process while doing things that make you feel good about yourself.
I have no idea how old anyone is. I’m almost 48, and I have no idea what that is supposed to look like. Some of my peers have fine lines and wrinkles, some look like very smooth. Some have done cosmetic procedures, some have not. I do skincare because it makes my skin feel soft and I enjoy the ritual. I’m not going to stress over how I look because I’m not fooling anyone into thinking I’m in my 20s, no matter what I do.
Oh my gosh, Kelly! You are so right about the double standards women face when they age! It’s like the aging man is put up on a pedestal, and the aging woman is thrown into the garbage can. It’s infuriating.
So glad to be following your channel and being exposed to these conversations. The idea of "ageing is the best case scenario" is not something that is said in my culture, so I'm happy to get exposed to it this way. Make up that goes 'against the grid' has also been a major game changer for me. My eye shape does not allow upturned eyeliner, so I had to figure it out on my own what looked best. 'Younger' seems to mean mostly 'currently trending' as, to be honest, different blush placement can make your cheeks looks fuller, which I would argue looks younger. It all depends on how you look at it. Would love to see more people appreciate their own faces and different make up styles, thanks for the video!
Thank you for this video. As a woman in her 70s I have gone past the look younger phase. I enjoy the videos even though I learned how to do my personal makeup in my best way long ago. Like product reviews even now.
I wish I could have had this view on aging when I was 30. I recently turned 40 and have been forced to acknowledge that everyone ages-and I don’t want to look like a 20 year old. I want to be me and reflect my style and my life experience. Even if that makes me “look my age”
Embrace that feeling! I recently entered my 40s and can tell you the confidence only increases with the years. I feel like I'm in the prime of my life and things are only getting better and better!
I felt the same about my 30s… but I had my first baby at 39 and my body changed a lot. Now I’m struggling with my confidence at 41. I’m hoping I will feel better again soon.
Great video. I just turned 40 this year and can I just tell you, it's so refreshing to hear someone talk about this exact topic. I get told all the time I look so much younger when I don't wear makeup, but girl, I'm still wearing my makeup because I love it and it's part of how I express me! Thank you for this one!
I have round cheeks, and contouring/placing blush very high just looks off. I'm trying to change my mindset and play up my features instead of change them.
I was told that life is better in your thirties, and with 31 approaching in a couple weeks, so far I agree! I'm less afraid of my body, I'm more financially stable, and I'm really coming into my own style that, while not necessarily "flattering to my body type," makes me really happy and comfortable to wear.
I always appreciate hearing your perspective in these makeup musings videos. Your perspectives are quite helpful for us to ponder and reflect on. Thank you for being so kind and down to earth and gracious. I typically am makeup free, and because I have a baby face that also looks quite innocent and naive (I've been told by many)... I will sometimes thrown on lipstick 💄 in order to HELP me LOOK OLDER (and less innocent and young.) Looking "older" is a good thing! It gives off wisdom and strength and a "Don't try to take advantage of me, I've got life experience" vibes 👊 😉
Cheers, Kelly. Great video. I’m among the youngest of Gen X and have been embracing my natural features instead of fighting them for a few years now. It is so freeing.
I do think GenX women are really changing things. Remember when June Allyson (who I certainly didn't recognize as a kid!) did ads for Depend in the '80s? Now that women our age have to (ahem) deal with that, the tone of those ads is so completely different! It's women going out for drinks with friends and getting body art, not playing shuffleboard. I hope it means we're "allowing" ourselves to just stay who we are, pink hair and bootcuts and Duran Duran and all.
@@gasparinhaDuran Duran! I have a painting project to complete - The Wedding Album might need to be the soundtrack for that task. Oh and I am rocking green eyeshadow today for the first time in decades. 🤘
Thanks for the video, Kelly! I agree with you. Techniques that are hyped at making us look younger may not work well for everybody, and not everybody may see that as the goal for their makeup look. As for me, I turned 60 during the pandemic, and I'm glad to still be above ground!
Some of the new trends just don’t look good on everyone. Some things are just classic and maybe not always trendy, and young looking . Different skin, face shape and every day life looks different than photos. I believe in looking the best that you can regardless of age. Beauty come in all shapes and sizes and ages. Love that u have addressed this! Awesome job!
I'm so glad you did this video about ageism. I am 56 about to be 57 and I do my makeup however I want. I don't care if it makes me look older or younger. I am embracing my older face .
Freaking thank you for this! Much like choosing clothes that feel authentic to you, makeup and makeup techniques should feel natural to you, and be an extension of your personality. To heck with if it’s “flattering” or “youthful”.
I'm so glad you touched on the fashion advice content out there. I used to follow a creator who made videos with tips on how to buy clothing that is better quality. But she started putting out content about dressing for your body. And it was the sort of advice that was like "don't wear this or you'll cut off your legs" "don't wear that or you'll lose your length". And I unfollowed because honestly, I don't want to spend the rest of my life fighting what I look like. My legs are short. Why am I trying to pretend they're not? I don't want to avoid wearing what makes me happy just because it isn't necessarily "flattering".
We should talk about after effects. Filler after effects are a worry. One day, like me, the elasticity of your skin disminishes. Not an issue, just normal. How much filler do you keep getting? I empathise, and I’m lucky I didn’t have the internet in my 20’s. The best preventative is skincare. Xxx
I'm 71. I have wrinkles, spots, large pores etc. I did not wear makeup when I was young or in mid-life. Getting old is a privilege. Younger people are ruining their skin forever!!! They have no awareness they are being manipulated to buy makeup and even surgery!
You preach it Kelly! I’m 54 and feel better about myself than I did in my 20s. Yes I look older obviously but I think I look better than I use to. I embrace the changes. ❤️
This kind of content is exactly why I’ve followed you for years, Kelly ❤ I don’t live in the US and have brown skin so your makeup recommendations are not very helpful to me (we just don’t have the same brands here and colour theory makes it very hard to judge how the makeup you use in your videos would translate) but I love how you think deeply about makeup - the business of it, marketing, formulas, trends, ethics, cultural aspects and psychology of makeup use. Thank you for being a voice of reason in the oftentimes chaotic beauty RUclips space. Also just wanted to add that your makeup looks beautiful 🤩.
I love the Jessica DeFino quotes. Anti-aging is the ultimate trap in this consumerist, capitalist hellscape. Convince even a fraction of people that it’s important and you can sell every manner of crème, serum, vitamin, treatment, injection, cosmetic procedure - whether they’re not wealthy and buying a drugstore product or rich enough to evolve laser treatments and plastic surgery - over the course of DECADES. If you take this into account, refusing to buy into anti-aging push is a radical act of resistance. I would add - hats off to Allure for challenging the narrative. I wonder if this had an impact on their advertising?
Thank you Kelly for your thoughtfulness ❤ I love these type of hot take videos! It's so important to bring up these topics. Thank you again Kelly for all your hard work 🙏🏼
The thing is, women should stop following trends. We should do our makeup in a way that flatters our face shape because not all techniques are flattering on all face shapes. Also, cool-toned blushes don't flatter everyone.
You’re so spot on to enhance and flatter your own face shape….even when I was younger I’ve applied blush toward my nose across check because of how my features are.
People need to keep in mind that the beauty industry thrives on our insecurities. They sell things by making us feel we look "too old" or need to correct our natural unique features. And the most ironic thing about this current obsession with premature anti-aging procedures and products is that these kind of things only make a young person look older. Botox and filler tend to give a particular appearance that isn't natural and is associated with the age range that these treatments used to be geared towards.

I also think I look better with lower placement makeup. I don’t think it ages me at all.

Wow, baby botox?! I hope we wont have a future generation of "Catwomen" cosmetically altered faces. Young ladies , please look it up.
Yes! Helen Mirren is my getting-older inspiration.
Sharp features are associated with mature age
That snatched look gives Cruella vibes. Not a fan.
I'm sorry for your loss.
That’s way too young, I’m so sorry for your loss.❤️
"I consider myself a masterpiece of living art" I LOVE this.
Thank you so much for sharing. Your comment made my day❤️
Thank you for making this video.
They can take my eye shadow and eyeliner out of my cold, dead hands!!! And no Botox or lip filler for me. That's not how I want to spend my money.
Also Botox isn’t preventative for all kinds of wrinkles. It can’t prevent wrinkles caused by loss of collagen.
Plus, they say that using Botox for too long will eventually have a reverse effect.
Love that!
Just love her♥️
@@Dreamer-by4nk Will be 63 in October, and I also color my hair and wear makeup to do me!
aging is a privilege not all of us will have! I'm 35 and it has been really good for my mental health and self esteem to unfollow many younger beauty/style influencers and replace them in my feed with women/folks in their 40s/50s/60s+
I think when people say “older” they really mean “tired”. Older is not the same as tired! Unfortunately too many people equate the too.
I am giggling watching this, good for you.I feel good in my older skin. I will soon be 67 and I just own what I have.
it’s so tough to break out of this mindset, i wanted to “correct” you and tell you that makeup that helps people look younger is “better”. which is such toxic nonsense that clearly i’ve been brainwashed into believing. thank you for your commentary and helping us all think critically about beauty ❤ as beauty is beauty, no matter how old you are.
Makeup should help you look happier and healthier. Sometimes trying too hard to.look young comes across as pathetic and sad.
I'm 49 & I'm grateful to still be here, growing old is a privilege not all are given.
I’m the same age and feel exactly the same! Every breath is a gift! ❤
I'm glad you're still here with us.
I agree!
Great job Kelly! I just turned 50 and I’m finally wise to what you already know at 30. Wise beyond your years👏🤩
Turned fifty in January.
I'm 42 and i'm not even considering any botox or suregry to look younger. It also feel surreal that young people get those.
I’m 32 and love boyfriend blush. One day I think we’ll look back at how high we put everything and see it just like we do the 2016 hard brow craze.
So true!
Thanks for the video content. I wish this movement would take hold, and women would realize how much of a blessing it is to age.
I am 71! Thank you so much for this video. I watch videos of beauty creators of all ages and choose what looks best on me😊
Im 47, thank you so much for talking about this. Aging is a privilege!!
I LOVE thin eyebrows too
Kelly, I love following your content for this exact reason!!
Thank you for starting a conversation about this, definitely needed.
I am 50 and I am loving my age!! And you better believe I am still a glitter freak 😂😂😂
❤❤ 50 yrs, and yes!
49, same here! ❤
Love your picture!
Yes! Thank you for this video (and all of your videos)! You’re so honest and straight forward, and that is so rare!
Baby Botox is such a scam too. Especially now that we know more about fillers now.
I’m not going to stress over how I look because I’m not fooling anyone into thinking I’m in my 20s, no matter what I do.
thank you, i agree, i am glad you said it. we can be beautiful in so many different ways, there is not just one kind of beauty (meaning young).
Oh my gosh, Kelly! You are so right about the double standards women face when they age! It’s like the aging man is put up on a pedestal, and the aging woman is thrown into the garbage can.
It’s infuriating.
My niece is 16 and already saying she wants lip filler. She’s absolutely stunning! This makes me so sad 😢
YES!! I haven’t even finished the video and YES! Thank you for this! We ARE ALL aging! Why can’t we embrace it AND be beautiful?! Thank you.
I’m closing in on 60. I don’t want to look 20, 30, 40… I want to look good (by my own definition)
I am in my 30s and I feel more confident and like myself way better than I did in my teens and 20s 😂
Agreed
Yessss!
Eloquent and thought-provoking. I totally agree. Thanks for lifting this topic up.
I was told that life is better in your thirties, and with 31 approaching in a couple weeks, so far I agree! I'm less afraid of my body, I'm more financially stable, and I'm really coming into my own style that, while not necessarily "flattering to my body type," makes me really happy and comfortable to wear.
Yes just turned 40 and living my best life
Yep! 50 yrs here❤❤
I always appreciate hearing your perspective in these makeup musings videos.
Your perspectives are quite helpful for us to ponder and reflect on.
Thank you for being so kind and down to earth and gracious.
I typically am makeup free, and because I have a baby face that also looks quite innocent and naive (I've been told by many)...
I will sometimes thrown on lipstick 💄 in order to HELP me LOOK OLDER (and less innocent and young.)
Looking "older" is a good thing! It gives off wisdom and strength and a "Don't try to take advantage of me, I've got life experience" vibes
👊 😉
Awesome that you really take hold of this conversation Kelli!
Thank you for speaking up about this. I feel more confident as I get older!
Excellent video, Brava! I hope your message is heard and embraced far and wide. ❤
Thanks for the video, Kelly! I agree with you. Techniques that are hyped at making us look younger may not work well for everybody, and not everybody may see that as the goal for their makeup look.
As for me, I turned 60 during the pandemic, and I'm glad to still be above ground!
So much this. I lost my mom last year to cancer, and now I even more so view aging as the most beautiful thing. It’s not bad! It’s a privilege.
The blush lower placement looks sooooo natural
Always refreshing to hear your thoughts on different beauty related subjects. Keep up your good work! Love your channel! 💗💗
Is it weird that I am obsessed with your font on the chapter titles? The font of the second word. Soooo pretty and interesting!
Xxx
Kelly, this is an important topic! Thank you for giving it the attention it deserves.
I LOVE to go against the current! Amazing video, Kelly! ❤
I'm 71. I have wrinkles, spots, large pores etc. I did not wear makeup when I was young or in mid-life. Getting old is a privilege. Younger people are ruining their skin forever!!! They have no awareness they are being manipulated to buy makeup and even surgery!
Thank you for this video. I am heading towards 40 and feeling a little down. You inspire me.
Thank you again Kelly for all your hard work 🙏🏼
no because this make you look so chic! it’s classic, it’s personal, it’s great!
It never occurred to me to use eyebrow pomade as eyeliner. I will have to try that!
I loveeeeee this blush placement on you!
Beautiful message 🤍
Your makeup musings always remind me of Jessica de Fino's work, so happy you shouted her substack out!
What a compliment! She’s brilliant and I love her work.
I seriously adore your perspective ❤ thanks for making the content you do xx
People need to keep in mind that the beauty industry thrives on our insecurities. They sell things by making us feel we look "too old" or need to correct our natural unique features. And the most ironic thing about this current obsession with premature anti-aging procedures and products is that these kind of things only make a young person look older. Botox and filler tend to give a particular appearance that isn't natural and is associated with the age range that these treatments used to be geared towards.
Good point that Botox can make a young woman look older.
This was a terrific, well thought-out video, Kelly!
