I think it’s a really poor move to have a universal jersey in a women in league round. It’s like having an Australian flag jersey in indigenous round. It invalidates the true purpose of the round by making it something broader

I disagree with the hello sport boys when they talk about nrl being hypocritical embracing the religious beliefs. When the religious guys embrace, pray, and sing hymns at the end of games they aren't negatively impacting anyone. When they choose to reject supporting lgbtq communities because of that religion (which is bullshit if they don't feel the same way with gambling/alcohol sponsor's on the jersey) then that has negative implications on lgbtq people. The NRL/manly have allowed the 7 players to stand down from playing, just as they are allowed to pray and sing hymns after the game.

Should the club also confer with players every time they put a betting app on the jersey or how about every time they play at the park named after an alcoholic beverage. I’m sorry but I will not accept that as a fair reason for not playing for the badge and think they’re all just cats.

Sexual preferences of a minority should not be a focus for NRL. We don’t celebrate any particular religion in our code with a special jersey. All this PC inclusiveness is so pretentious. I’ve noticed the fear that commentators have to even discus the matter because they might say something that offends one party or another. Even Roberts seemed confused that he should be wheeled out of the closet after all these years as poster boy to satisfy NRL’s ambition to be woke and inclusive. Instead of inclusiveness, this issue has created more division than intended, and should have been left alone.

    • @nathanwaterman5335
      @nathanwaterman5335 2 года назад

so we should be less inclusive to be more inclusive? Bud inclusiveness is the reason my daughter can aspire to play Rugby League, inclusiveness is the reason our friends who are gay don't feel out of place in the rugby league community. Its "PC" its just being a good and reasonable person to let people know that everyone is welcome in this community.
The way you're complaining now is the same crap other people would have said when race was the issue and not sexuality.

    • @queenslander7756
      @queenslander7756 2 года назад

@@nathanwaterman5335 No one suggests your daughter or gay friends be excluded from anything. You’re looking for an argument. The woke activists feeding this hysteria don’t want inclusiveness. Their words and actions inspire division. Your opinion is all that matters and you look for any reason to belittle others to raise yourself up. If you read my comment thoughtfully instead of reacting, you may have got the message, but your personal opinions and prejudices prevent that. Sport is not a platform for every fringe movement to seek legitimacy. Most Aussies are “live and let live”, but they know when they’re being abused for someone else’s agenda. Your final comment bringing “race” into the discussion is typical and predictable, and justifies my judgement of you! Slandering others to make your point is weak and immature!

Fuckn oath I do, but the conversation needs to be had in society that not everyone is going too agree with who you are and the lifestyle you lead and that’s the product of living in an open and free society and that’s the only society worth living in. Fact of life is people don’t have to agree on everything as long as we treat each other with respect then all good.

For sure man, but the point can be made that the whole point of the jersey is about inclusiveness and yet these players are being excluded due to their religious beliefs. Also I think being Women in League round, it's the wrong time for Manly to bring this Jersey in, probably should have done it earlier or just do it in a few weeks time. And lastly Manly definitely should have spoken to the playing group about this Jersey and sorted out any issues way before actually announcing it and having players find out about through other media sources.
If the whole purpose of the Jersey is about inclusiveness then these boys shouldn't be getting shit on for standing up for there religious beliefs, but then again I guess you could argue about the fact of all the gambling and alcohol sponsors all over Jerseys and stadiums. I don't know man. Poorly managed on Manly's behalf and it's just turned into an absolute shitstorm.

Just a few points on the tigers v cowboys debacle. Agree entirely that it was a terrible call and should have just been full time, game over. I don’t have a problem with the challenge being made, at the end of the day if there was a blatant foul by the tigers (like with the Ben Hunt situation a few weeks back), I’m all for being able to challenge and get the decision right. The problem we had here is he just made the wrong call. That then means this isn’t an issue with the bunker or the system, it’s simply human error, Ashley Klein made the wrong call, nothing more. We shouldn’t be getting rid of the bunker, there’d be hundreds more incorrect calls made and imagine the complaining if we went back to that. Re: taking more than 10 seconds to challenge, Chad was screaming challenge from the second Feldt hit the deck, it was the ref walking away and telling everyone to shut up as to why it took so long. And spare me anyone who thinks Holmes should have been penalised for being offside off his own kick. Can anyone imagine if that was called, offside when you’re kicking the ball? Clearly that rule is dumb and needs to go, we’re only looking for things to try to support the tigers were robbed narrative. You cannot be offside when you’re the kicker, ridiculous rule

The way I see the stoppage thing is that a stoppage is stopping the clock, full time is the end of game.
So it's either no stoppage (cuz it's a tackle and no full-time whistle blown) or it's full-time, which isn't then a stoppage cuz the clock isn't gonna start again. So there's nothing to challenge. Challenge a stoppage (penalty, which wasn't called) or call full-time, which is not a stoppage, it's end of. Period.

They have strong loyalty to their culture and they see this issue through that lense. Not saying it's good or bad, but considering that there's plenty with religious convictions that would be more than happy to wear the jersey, it's not as simple to say it's religious beliefs only.

How the club handled this is beside the point these players have said a big up yours to their club, team-mates and fans and why? Because they're so disgusted by gay people that they won't wear a jersey with a few colours meant to represent the idea that rainbow people are welcome. These guys have handled this badly not the club.
The religion point is pretty bad guys because it's BS. I know you didn't mean this but you basically just implied here that being christian means you're a bigot and that all those guys praying at the end of games (which I think is a great part of the game) share this bigotry.
At the end of the day these guys have inarguably branded themselves as bigots and I hope they learn from this experience, which I'm sure hasn't been great for them.
Honestly if they're that revolted by the idea of LGBTQ being included by the club they should 100% resign and find a club that shares those fucked up values.
If anything this has proved how needed things like pride week is.
One a more positive note I'll be cheering hard for Manly this week and am really proud of the players who are wearing the jersey.

Nah you're putting words in their mouths here. How have the players handled this badly? This is nothing like the Falou saga where he spouted hateful stuff at people. These boys (6 Polynesians and 1 Aboriginal) have not said one negative thing.
I think a lot of people are missing the cultural aspect to this. It's no coincidence that 6 out of the 7 players have Polynesian heritage. They have strong loyalty to their culture and they see this issue through that lense.

I don’t believe I’m putting words into the players mouths I’m just drawing the obvious conclusion from their actions. The whole saga is really disappointing and it’s on these players not the club. They’re the ones who made a big political gesture about their right to not wear a few extra colours on their stripe.

How's what you did any different to some white nationalist calling anyone with different values unAustralian? I'm sure they'd say they're drawing obvious conclusions about people with different skin colours too. I mean, you did say "I know Polynesian poeple" - typical racist's defence.

@@deodrasshelios7957 Thats pretty incoherent I don't really know if you are deliberately arguing in bad faith or you just simply don't understand the basic concept of bigotry be it racism or homophobia.
To be clear, I am 100% saying these players are being homophobic. It is unarguable, that's what they're doing. To say otherwise is to deny the very existence of homophobia.
In some weird garbled way you've tried to accuse me of being racist, which I don't even know how to respond to because you're barely making any sense. Of interest though the only person here bringing race into this is you.
      YOU said
"I think a lot of people are missing the cultural aspect to this. It's no coincidence that 6 out of the 7 players have Polynesian heritage."
The players DIDN'T say anything about being Polynesian, you brought that up.
All we know is that they are refusing to wear a rainbow coloured jersey (how petty) for unspecified "religious reasons" not "Polynesian reasons". So it is actually you putting words in their mouth at the moment.
What you've suggested here is that being homophobic is somehow a cultural aspect of being Polynesian.
Which frankly, is bullshit and also something you have ZERO evidence for and is in fact a pretty offensive piece of racist stereo typing.
As I said I know Polynesian people, who right now will not be happy to see people going about making generalised statements about how homophobia is some kind of cultural aspect to being Polynesian.
Humorously and rather stupidly you refer to me as "self-appointed defenders of LGBT". If you believe that, then you are acknowledging that rainbow people are under some kind of attack.
      If so.
What are you in this scenario, the 'Self appointed attacker of LGBT' ?
Or maybe you are the "Self appointed defender of homophobes" or perhaps the 'Self appointed expert in the cultural values of Polynesians'.
