- Long Island Rep. George Santos said in an interview on a Brazilian podcast last month that he had an attempt on his life. He also said muggers attacked him in broad daylight on 5th Ave and 55th Street back in August 2021. The NYPD told News 4 that there were no records of the mugging or an attempt on Santos' life.
How on earth is this even possible America? It is embarrassing.

The cops have no record of this occurring why did you not report it? Also why did you not report an attempt on your life? This guy is truly amazing. I've been in a few different altercations that I just walked away from as the dust settled. I always figured whatever happened was pretty much public knowledge and I am very easy to find if the cops wanted to talk. As for things being done to me; I've gotten used to not being believed or aided, (by 'friends', family, cops, etc.), so I just let it ride, often, till somebody can make the point that those behaviors are unacceptable. If that ever happens.
Usually a lot of people are aware of what some bad actor is intending so .... what's a guy to do?
Point is; there are plenty of times people have just cause in this country to just cut their losses and not involve the police. The interesting thing is that Santos, a Republican, does not trust the police enough to report a mugging.

When I visited beautiful NY a few years ago, I was surprised to see police positioned on what seemed to be almost every corner in Midtown, Manhattan. Is that no longer the case? Just from what I saw, it seems unlikely anyone would be mugged at 3pm at the corner of 5th Ave. and 55th Street.
I think covid plus vaccine policy led to alot of cops leaving the force. There have been other issues as well. So no, cops aren't on every corner...maybe during holidays. That said NYC is still pretty safe, especially an area like 5th and 55th, which is both very upscale, and heavily touristed, so lots of cops. Santos really jumped the shark on this one.
