    This is beautiful, thank you for sharing your technique! I don't wear jewelry so I was wondering what I could do with this, and using them for mini furniture and homes is a great way to utilize this. Does the sanding make them shiny, or do you glaze/seal them all after baking? And do you hand sand them, or do you use a tumbler?

    • @Aboutordinarywomen
      @Aboutordinarywomen  8 лет назад +1

      I use a stiffen wire to twist through the clay. I make my basic shape before flatting or twisting and I press and twist the center point on the clay and slowly push through the clay till just on the other side and then I flip the bead over use the wire to meet the hole.

      I usually add my holes before baking. There are exceptions to that if I want the hole in the very top of the bead I drill after baking.

  • @MichellesHandmadeCreations

    OOOOOHHH, looks like I need to get some translucent clay. Pretty!
    I have a general question for you. About 10 years ago, I had the opportunity to attend a class with Donna Kato. After the class I bought a at least a shoe-box full of clay blocks. I haven't touched the clay since. I'm wondering if it's going to be worth trying to work with. It's all in the original wrappers and has always been stored indoors so not extreme heat or cold got to it. In your opinion, besides conditioning it more than normal, what else should I expect from or need to do with this aged polyclay?
    Anxious to try some techniques I've learned from your video tutorials.
    Thanks for your time and for all the tutorials!

    • @Aboutordinarywomen
      @Aboutordinarywomen  8 лет назад +2

      Thank you and you are most welcome now on to the question. If you can get it workable again there is no real issue it will be like brand new clay. Just treat it like any other clay. In my experience once a clay has gone super stiff it does stiffen back up faster like with in a few days. I got my hands on some old clay a few years ago a friend gave it to me she had no clue how old it was but she did know it was old, it was hard to get it conditioned again but it made some great stuff.

    • @MichellesHandmadeCreations
      @MichellesHandmadeCreations 8 лет назад

      So, if I'm able to get it conditioned, then it will be use-able. Cool! My hands are very arthritic. Can the clay be conditioned by running it through the pasta machine folding it again and again? I don't have to kneed it right?

    • @Aboutordinarywomen
      @Aboutordinarywomen  8 лет назад +2

      Yes pasta machine is my go to for most conditioning but I also use an arbor press. There is also a product on the marker called Never Knead I made my own using an arbor press.aboutordinarywomen.com/polymer-clay-conditioning/ You can also pulse in a food processor and then press it back together, if you do that the processor can not be used for food again.

    • @MichellesHandmadeCreations
      @MichellesHandmadeCreations 8 лет назад +1

      OMGosh! Thanks so much for the link to your blog post and the other machine. Looks like the press will keep the air pockets from forming. Went to their site and watched their video. I guess if I needed to have a press in a specific color I could paint my own from Harbor Freight and save about $100! Ha ha! Gonna have to get one since my clay is really old and I don't want to contaminate my food processor. Again, thanks for your help!

    where do u get get 600 grit sandpaper or as u said 12000 grit

    • @Aboutordinarywomen
      @Aboutordinarywomen  8 лет назад +2

      +ron jul Well I get it several places. Hobby Lobby you will find it by the air brush stuff. I also get it woodworking sites like Pen State Pens, Wood Crafters I have got it off of Amazon. Between my husband and I we go through a lot of sand paper my husband is a wood turner. If you are going to varnish do not go above 600 grit or the varnish just slides off and does not stick.

    Hi you are waving your hands around as people do when they are speaking but there are no words. Is your mic working? I can hear the irritating music so I don't think it's a problem with my ipad. Also the cane you made looked white when you had finished rolling it then you switched to a pale lilac cane - without your narrative not sure what's going on. Can you enlighten please? Thanks

    • @Aboutordinarywomen
      @Aboutordinarywomen  9 лет назад

      +Harper Smythe Hi Harper, I am not sure what is with your sound I went back and played and the sound works fine for me. Okay the music is annoying I will make sure it not in the next videos. I explain that I moved to the other cane because it had set for a few days. I believe canes should relax before cutting. The same tech. was use for both canes.

    • @harpersmythe658
      @harpersmythe658 9 лет назад +1

      +Ordinary Women ok thanks for the explanation. Not sure what's going on with your dialogue part of the sound as it is ok on other videos - oh well never mind. The biggest problem with music is that the people demonstrating (that's most people not just you) tend to turn the music volume up in between explanations and as I wear earbuds so as not to disturb the rest of the house it can blast my ear drums lol if only youtube would come up with a way for viewers to filter out the music if they wish - are you listening youtube :) but other than that the 'stones' look pretty awesome so I'll be giving them a go. Are you planning anymore faux gems/stones videos?

    whats the dip method

    • @Aboutordinarywomen
      @Aboutordinarywomen  8 лет назад

      +ron jul I dip the pieces in the varnish instead of putting it on with a paint brush. It is a lot messier and it used up a lot more varnish. Dipping means I do not have to worry about brush strokes.
