What an interview. Of course I knew of Mckayla during the Olympics but I did not realize how incredible she is. She is both beautiful inside and out and wise and mature beyond her years. So glad I saw this interview and know a bit more about this special young woman.
she's even sweeter in person! i'm sure she finds it BEYOND annoying but i couldn't help myself - when i met her i asked if i could take a picture making that fact with her and she was so very gracious! either she genuinely was happy taking that picture & making that face AGAIN because it made someone else happy, or she was annoyed but did it anyway because she knows what it means to look up to someone.

Describing the Olympic Games took me back to how Maslow explained "peak experience", when a person realises "self-actualisation", experiences the world totally for what it is, accompanied by feelings of euphoria, joy and wonder. Mckayla is not unaware that she is living her dream. And we are given the opportunity to live the moment vicariously through her. She represents our world as it could be, if only we could rise above our bitterness, resentment and petty jealousies. It was nice to cheer her on and watch her succeed. Still, she has the potential to give us a lot more, as long as she is willing to keep the lines of communication open.
I really hate when gymnasts are down on their original gym…she says good things about Gym-Max but ultimately says that they were not good enough, when the truth is that she GREW UP, which is what all little gymnasts do, regardless of what gym they are at…Still love her. Just wish gymnasts would always be appreciative of the people who gave up everything to coach them.

She needed someone else to help her get to the Olympics bc vault was her ticket to get there. Kyla (from the same gym) didn't need to be better at vault she needed fabulous bars and beam, which is what got her on the team and got her 4 individual Worlds medals. The gym switch was probably best for her
Sandra and McKayla close friends? Are you kidding me? I have watched all interviews with Izbasa, and she has never said that the two gymnast are any kind of friends. Even more, Sandra never adressed to McKayla with her first name, she always said something like Maroney, or the 'American girl', something like this. Don't get me wrong, Izbasa never said something bad about McKayla, but she never said nothing more about her, only that she thinks Maroney is still young, so she has chances to compete again. So, those two are surely not friends :D
