    Confession: In part of this video, you’re walking out the door with a fabulous black purse on your shoulder. My only thought was “That is the perfect purse! Where did she get that purse? I must find that purse.” … and realized the irony immediately. 😁I’ve spent the last ten years minimizing my belongings, love the simplicity and don’t buy unless I need something ~ so this made me smile. Thanks for these videos, always a breath of fresh air!

    Thrifting with a smaller budget left me with a lot of purchases that were ‘close enough’ or ‘it will do’ while I appreciate the use I have had of these items for a long time, they tend to multiply as one is always looking for a better version. Moving forward I am more intentional. Channels like yours help with this process- thank you!

      Absolutely. I’m 60 and finding the same to be true. I relate to this so much. And I too, hesitate to have people come over because I need to clean and tidy. I dont spend time with loved ones or friends. I am trying to get on top of this.

    One question my husband always asks when I'm considering buying something is "Where will you put it?" I roll my eyes a little, but I know he's right 😅
    It's especially useful with kitchen appliances, decor, and my biggest vice: houseplants

    My problem has been that I'm very good at putting clothes together, and buying quality items, but my problem is that I just keep on doing it! I've ended up with tonnes of clothes, and it's been difficult to part with them, because they're all nice! However, I am in my last week of doing Project 333 and it's been life-changing. I've now got my 33 items and I'm so much happier. It's helped me to work out what my actual style is, and it's made getting dressed in the morning so much easier!

    Very good suggestions about how to think about consuming. Although your examples are mostly about clothes, I think they are applicable to all aspects of one's surroundings. Sometimes, the term minimalism does not resonate well with people because they might think that they must for example adhere to a capsule wardrobe or live in a near empty house. Being intentional about what is in one's home or in one's wardrobe can look very different from person to person! Your videos emphasize this last point very well.

    Elin, this is so helpful for potential newly purchased objects. Currently, I'm struggling with parting with sentimental objects that I've inherited from multiple generations. I seem to be the unofficial keeper of family treasures. I've approached various family member hoping they would be interested in taking some of our family heirlooms, unfortunately no one is interested, much to my chagrin. I admit that I'm overly sentimental. So much so, that I can't bare the thought of anyone else, with the exception of family members, possessing our family treasures. What to do, what to do?

    • @ros8986
      @ros8986 11 месяцев назад +7

      Many professionals recommend letting go of just one thing, waiting to see how you feel one day later, two days later, one week later. Andrew Mellen says it is important to remember that your grandmother's teacup is not your grandmother. Gayle Goddard recommends keeping a representative sample. And in thinking about the reactions of your relatives, remember that for some people they do not need physical objects to experience family, both past and present.

      @@ros8986 That all make perfect sense when using my head. However, it's my heart that has a difficult time with letting go.

    • @sherriepiechowski4556
      @sherriepiechowski4556 11 месяцев назад +4

      Patricia I totally understand where you’re coming from with sentimental items because I was the keeper of everyone’s treasures. It finally got to the point where I was valuing everyone else’s possessions over my own and couldn’t even figure out who I was anymore. These things were a part of their life and their memories NOT YOURS! Let go of their belongings and Live YOUR BEST life and treasure your own memories! I only kept a couple things from each family member that also included a memory of it for me as well or I gave myself permission to say goodbye. Not to the person’s memory but to their items.
      It will free you up to be YOUR Authentic Self!

    • @patriciakumar115
      @patriciakumar115 11 месяцев назад

      @@sherriepiechowski4556 Thank you, Sherrie. I get what you're saying. In my case, I do have personal memories of all the object I have from family members. I can tell you personal stories for each object. I believe that's what makes it so very hard for me to part with these objects. I almost wish I didn't have as strong a connection with family relationships, memories, and their objects. I'm a married 69 years old childless woman. I ask myself almost daily: "What is to become of these precious objects." I need a neutral party to tell me that it's okay to let go and that my ancestors and living family members won't be upset with me. I do appreciate your giving me permission to rid myself of this burden. For that, I'm grateful.

    I went to a clothing store yesterday and I had seen a plaid jacket which I loved. I had put it on, and my husband said buy it. After I had examined the jacket, I had noticed that the patterned did not line up with the seam. So... back on the hanger it went on. Nope... didn't buy it.

      haha thank you so much! I swear I'm just lucky! I have had many plants die on me, but for some reason the majestic palm has done well despite the odds. I'm just sure to water it roughly every 3-4 days, and I trim off branches once they really start to turn brown. Other than that, I really don't do much! (FYI I got this one at Home Depot... they sometimes have a great plant selection)
