Again, Thank you so much for this awesome channel. It's kind of scary how you produce videos on every topic I struggle with and desperatly needed advice on ;) By far the best RUclips Channel on archery technique out there. Perfectly explained and described with a lot of in depth knowledge about shooting form.
You just saved my draw shoulder! I ve always had the impression ( picked up from various podcasts and youtube videos) that you need to squash the scapula into the spine. Now I m gonna video myself and see how well timed my draw movements are in relation to each other and when things start to move. I think this is key.
Thank you so much. You talk about exactly the problems I have. I filmed myself yesterday and (besides all the other crap I still do, shooting barebow about a year now) and I see exactly the issues you show in this episode. Thank you, really. Should help me a lot to improve and to not hurt myself. Greetings from germany
Thanks so much for your detailed explanation about the timing and the movement , it is so helpful. Good tip with the mirrow and the video delay:) Sonja
Great video Ashe. I've been looking for a good video to show my daughter about scapula movement to help her understand it and improve her draw. This is what I was looking for.
Good bit of biomechanic analysis- very interesting detailed look at this issue. If the draw is led from the elbow, I get beginners to push their elbow back into my hand as they draw, the timing and the shoulder blade position tend to more naturally reach the desired end point, and it keeps the timing right This is especially important if the archer wants to shoot higher draw weights in say field archery. I can see exactly what you mean by him moving his shoulder blade too early, on the side by side its clear that this leaves him with broken form across his shoulders which means he isnt supporting the load as he reaches full draw, and his elbow remains high because it has nowhere to go. I agree totally with using a band to develop the correct movement, and also strength training as that will help develop a more agressive movement, and its proper follow through to release as you discuss in a recent video. Indeed if you shoot an Asiatic bow with a thumb ring, the whole movement of draw and release is very push pull with follow though both in the draw hand, and in this case, the bow hand as khatra is executed.
Very good video. I struggled with this problem too. I also noticed that the bow sholder comes up when the draw shoulder is pulled down wich makes it harder to come smoothley through the klicker and a high bow shoulder can also lead to shoulder pain and injury.
Really good info. Yes the shoulder should not go up, but that doesn't mean it needs to be forced down! Easy mistake to make, i'm probably guilty of the same thing.
@@OnlineArcheryAcademy I'm working mostly with Tom Clum and The Push. I do have very ingrained old habits though and can't get the engagement out of my slightly over developed traps. My shoulderblade is sticking out and at the point where I feel like I'm in alignment as far as trad goes, my whole right side is tensed up, I might over draw and I get a sore shoulder on the draw side.
I have been struggling with this for months now. I kept pushing the shoulder further and further back and getting more sore and bigger groups. Timing it seems is even more important.
I have this exact problem but it’s not a forced movement it feels more like the shoulder slips down. Some kind of muscle weakness. Hard to keep it neutral under load. Even with a light band I can feel it slipping. I have winged scapula so it might be a serratus anterior weakness.
I'm struggling with this one. Not because I've an issue, but because (a) having taken screenshots of both you/your archer, and overlaid one on the other, I can't discern a difference, and (b) it's all very well to describe which bits of anatomy need to do this, that or the other*, but - actually - what the archer really needs to know is "what should it feel like" . Which you might be easily able to answer by laying hands on the archer, but that ain't a RUclips option ("Getting inside The Bow" - that works really well, for me, anyway) * No skiing instructor ( or boxing coach, or Dad teaching his first-born to ride a bike) ever said "fire the [insert muscle/joint here]". They just shout "Bend Ze Kneez!!" and/or "Follow Me!!", or similar - so that's what you do . . . .
He forces his shoulder down because there isn't room for scapula movement to get expand. As we can see while he pulls the string he forces his back to outside.

Fantastic! I'm really happy that helped sort it out - it's all about the movement together :)

Thanks so much Andreas! No problem at all, I'm super happy it helped out! Thanks for watching :)

No problem at all! Thanks for watching again Sonja!

Wonderful! You're more than welcome, glad it can help out :)
Really good information. That timing thing with the elbow and scapula is a really common problem.
Thank you for this!!!! I was doing the exact thing that archer was doing. I'm happy I've found your chanel.
That's awesome it was so specific for you! Glad to help :)

Again great feedback sir amazing I too had upper traps tension problem
Thanks Srishti! Keep working on it :)
@@OnlineArcheryAcademy for sure 😊it's getting better and very soon I will be able to send u my shooting video after improving my previous mistakes.
Very good video. I struggled with this problem too. I also noticed that the bow sholder comes up when the draw shoulder is pulled down wich makes it harder to come smoothley through the klicker and a high bow shoulder can also lead to shoulder pain and injury.
Exactly! Glad it helped clarify a few things :)
This helped a lot, thank you!
Great analysis and spot on! Had exactly the same problem, was causing pain and fatique in draw shoulder quite early.
Thanks Jan! I'm happy it's helped you solve some it :)

I am starting to like you. All the best!
Thank you so much. Traditional Archer here but got big issues with that. Cheers
No problem at all! I'm happy it helps you out with Trad too!

Great instruction and video, would you use the same procedure for compound bows?
I have been struggling with this for months now. I kept pushing the shoulder further and further back and getting more sore and bigger groups. Timing it seems is even more important.
Exactly! Timing is super important!
Very very helpful !!
Awesome! Thanks for watching :)

That’s kind of bizarre! It’s a really nice looking shot, but yeah that’s a weird shoulder movement.
Do you always wear polo ?

how much the cost of band ?
The whole set of different strengths is maybe $20 :)

Archer has serratus anterior problem.
