Love the techy nerdy videos like this, seeing stuff like this just goes to show people how much really goes in to building one these proven race winning machines!
Quite literally, a brick is more aerodynamic than ol Leroy lol. I'm more surprised by mullet, I knew his boxy body is not as good as kev's soccer mom, but I thought it would have been closer than it actually is
Very cool! Cletus is gonna regret bringing you up to the wind tunnel!!! Lol! Cleetus: [Phone rings] "Hello?" TSP: "Hey Cleetus, we just sent a killer engine package over to Gainesville for Soccer Mom....." Cleetus: [Leans away from phone and hollers into the shop} "James!!!! We are gonna need nitrous!!!!.....Two of em!"
The bottom left screen of the Camaro in the wind tunnel would look sic as a poster. The lights reflecting off of the sleek lines with the huge turbines/fans in the background. Furthermore the whole science behind aero is crazy. You can't see air but it has such a huge impact. This was so cool.
Great meeting you taday at zMAX today yall were awesome and the lady working your merch tent was great tell her I said thanks for the offer to be my body guard for the shirt I was wearing lol
Man this is so cool. So neat to see that those old clunkers actually have some engineering in them and they werent all looks. You should throw some headlight covers on soccer mom and make a pass just to test if anything changes
@@jamesplotkin4674 probably because it doesnt have the grille in the front. It probably makes more downforce. I bet the headlights still are a big restriction though
Kevin, from one second gen owner to another, thank you for taking your car to a wind tunnel so I don’t have to ;) Always been really curious how they did, mine did 135mph on a sunny Mexico interstate with the stock 350. Now I’m thinking I coulda gone faster with more gear!! Great, now you got me daydreaming about standing mile stuff…
Coming from a certified Dataholic I'm glad you met Garret = getting to do a lot of Very Cool Stuff and I'm confident he knows how lucky he is to have met you as well = Win(s) with KSR!🏁
Kevin I also Love the Second Gen disco era Camaro. A couple of small things I have learned about our favorite rides. I installed 'glass inner fenders to clean up the air behind the front wheel. They are trimmed to allow the front to still be removed. And if you ever find yourself on the outside looking in on a field. But you or so close to making it in. I will use the nascar racer tape to cover the grille area. Looks ugly, but gets you in the field and then you can remove it. I was amazed at the MPH gain. Yes I can safely say " I LOVE me some Soccer Mom" :)
For the headlights, should be pretty simple to get some plexiglass pieces to block the hole following the body lines... To reduce the front lift, add some holes in the back of the hood for air trapped under to continue gracefully over the windshield.
Kevin, I wasn't there at the time, but the builder of my boat put it in a wind tunnel. They said it has a butt load of lift. And loved the smoke test of soccer mom.
Since yall are in Mooresville, NC head downtown to Alino's pizza for some amazing pizza and gelato or if you want really good ice cream head just down main street to Deluxe Ice Cream. Great vid sir!
Flat plexiglass covers for the headlights might help your headlight airflow, they used to be available back in the day when these were made. But I think if you put them on a heated rounded form you could produce a shape similar to a ship's bulbous bow or the front of a submarine, which will help more with drag. It might make it a little harder to attach than the flat panels, but I think you can probably handle that.
Soccer Mom is such a beautiful car. That body style has always been my favorite of the Camaros/Firebirds. Child of the 70's/80's - just can't help myself. That blue is the perfect color.
Super cool. never would have thought that the air would go down the cowl and come out at the tire side of the car! and yes you have got to be one of the biggest data geeks on RUclips lmao kick ass in charlotte!
Golden hour is what it is called in actual photo or cinema photography. The reason is the high level of yellows and reds in the light. Florescent bulbs tend to be blue, so that made that color pop against the orange background.
I think we're all on the same page, we love your videos and love seeing your lady by your side as support (and shooting some footage😍)! Seriously, nothing better than your morning videos with my morning coffee ☕
Hope you remembered to grab the door you had to take off to get out of the wind tunnel LOL Interesting numbers, even with mullet in a naked (no hood) configuration.
YES! I was begging Cleet to run Mullet in wind tunnel. Thanks for letting the cat out of the bag and i'm also really keen to see Soccer Mom's results! Yay science! :D
THAT was AWESOME. I think I want a wind tunnel...let me look on amazon...LOL Seriously, that is incredible. To think the Cup guys and other racing folks spend weeks in those facilities. Oh, to be a fly on the wall...
The Z-28 from that year had fender vents , and a air dam under the front bumper. I would like to see what would change. Pluss some head light covers. These cars also got raced in NASCAR I-ROC. Check out the front bumper shape that they used.
The Leroy wind tunnel video is still one of my favorites on his channel. It’s so hilarious how bad the Aero is on that car. I’ve watched it at least 3 or 4 times.
Kevin, I now see why the big time cars run their turbos angled behind the front tires. Seeing that air enter the cowl induction and exit behind the front wheel was the ah ha moment.
Well, I can't say it doesn't surprise me how slick Soccer Mom is in the wind tunnel. It was hard to hear everyone talking with all the wind, but the cowl induction (IMO)could use a better place to escape from rather than disrupt the front wheels. Have you thought of some functional luvers on the top of the fender like they had on the 80 Z28 ? Lots of cool data doing that. 👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Nice to see you get to do some fun stuff that gets you your much loved data while having fun. Hopefully you guys get the bigger motor and get the car even faster.
What the good ol boys did back n the day was taking those 350 motor and turn them into a 383 stoker motors. Hell most came with a 350 anyways. Hell why not now.
That's was a cool shot of Soccer Mom in the wind tunnel from the front view . That is a beautiful car . Kevin probably had a Woodie the entire time he was in there . 😂 .
Them: “Kevin would you like wind tunnel data?”
Kevin: “Yea sure.” * internalized happy screaming *
*beat me too it, well done sir exactly what i was thinking*
That's like asking a dog if it wants bacon.
"We need a bigger motor," is pretty much the right answer to every car related question.
Transmissions out?
You sir, need a bigger motor lol.
Not every question. I tend to see four major answers.
“We need…”
A) a Miata
B) a bigger motor
C) a dogbox
D) more downforce
Applications may vary.
Yup more Go Fast parts is always the answer
Kevin you love data and that’s why I’m a fan. Your splaining data to mere mortals educates and helps learning.
Loved the little wave from mrs KSR she must put up with a lot so top gal in my book
It'll be fine it's got camarodynamics
Keep up the momentum for KSR everyone.. Hes one in a billion as a car builder!
Love the techy nerdy videos like this, seeing stuff like this just goes to show people how much really goes in to building one these proven race winning machines!
Now imagine the knowledge, precision and data for a F1 wind tunnel test!
I’m impressed with how clean that air was across the top of soccer mom. Big difference between it and Leroy
Lol well yeah Leroy don't have body panels an it's all open. But it was funny tho when he had it in the wind tunnel
Quite literally, a brick is more aerodynamic than ol Leroy lol. I'm more surprised by mullet, I knew his boxy body is not as good as kev's soccer mom, but I thought it would have been closer than it actually is
Annnnd Kevin installed a wind speed sensor beforehand
Very cool! Cletus is gonna regret bringing you up to the wind tunnel!!! Lol!
Cleetus: [Phone rings] "Hello?"
TSP: "Hey Cleetus, we just sent a killer engine package over to Gainesville for Soccer Mom....."
Cleetus: [Leans away from phone and hollers into the shop} "James!!!! We are gonna need nitrous!!!!.....Two of em!"
Two of the big ones, and I need it by tonight.........
I don't think Kevin is ready for everything that's coming to him, he's such a great dude all around congratulations on everything coming to you

Hahaha, she told me about it on the ride home!! Thanks for stopping by.
If SoccorMom is getting a new engine then can we see some moon tunes this week ?
I’d like to see how “basic” the motor in it really is.
The view of the front of the car with the 3 fans behind it awesome.
David Friburger was runing 277mph at bonevile with that chasis. Just plexiglass front grill and lights.
Soccer Mom and Data Dad, great way to start a Saturday!🇺🇸👍🇺🇸🤘🇺🇸
Man this is so cool. So neat to see that those old clunkers actually have some engineering in them and they werent all looks. You should throw some headlight covers on soccer mom and make a pass just to test if anything changes
We’ve talked about head light covers for years. Now we know the truth.
I was coming here to same the same, bring back the 80-90’s, lol. It go faster.
Doubt it would make any difference at the speeds the car is running. At 150+ it MIGHT make .5 - 1 mph increase
I suppose the Firebird of the same era was cleaner in the front?
@@jamesplotkin4674 probably because it doesnt have the grille in the front. It probably makes more downforce. I bet the headlights still are a big restriction though
2nd gen definitely had aero on lock down👍💯👊
Kevin, from one second gen owner to another, thank you for taking your car to a wind tunnel so I don’t have to ;)
Always been really curious how they did, mine did 135mph on a sunny Mexico interstate with the stock 350. Now I’m thinking I coulda gone faster with more gear!! Great, now you got me daydreaming about standing mile stuff…
Soccer mom is such a beautiful colour and paint is sooooo smooth
The Turk/Freiburger landspeed Camaro has plexiglass covers that go over the headlight pockets
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought about that
Yes. That car is amazing. Don’t think we haven’t noticed it.
The lighting in the tunnel makes the blue paint look badazz
Saw Kevin on Finnegans channel earlier today. How could you not like the guy?
The Dudes going places for sure. Very humble. You deserve it buddy!

Damn, that wind tunnel blew the door off!
Nawwww, we took it off between takes
In reality cleetus stole it after seeing the numbers on soccer mom......And it's reported they are still looking for it.
I thought since Cleetus doesn't want to run with the hood, Kevin was going to run without a door.
Beautiful paint job on that old girl !!!
That’s so cool I like the Color soccer mom Love the aerodynamics of the second generation Camaros and Firebirds👍
Definitely one of the cleanest gen 2's out there! Keep up the great work KSR gang.
I see a bigger engine coming for Soccer Mom....lol. Very cool video Kevin. Thanks for taking us along
Just watched the T-ray video ksr keeps it going all performance all the time
Since yall are in Mooresville, NC head downtown to Alino's pizza for some amazing pizza and gelato or if you want really good ice cream head just down main street to Deluxe Ice Cream. Great vid sir!
Are They still having the car shows in down town?
@@randallmason9687 I have no idea, I live in the Raleigh area now and back then was never into cars. So, I never went to any of the car meets.
Love the color, super nice car in person & rare to see,
You get how big trailer is that of cleetus's when Kevin drove past it
I’ll probably see it for myself this afternoon and Kevin too
It’s big
Ok can confirm, it’s big .
@@rustyshacklfort9508 provided us a nice shaded pit area in the afternoon lol.

Who remember's how bad Leroy's numbers where?
“Heinous”
less efficient than a brick lmao
Pretty sure it showed ERR.
i just looked at the old Leroy video and it was .74 with wing and .68 no wing
Wasn't it like 780 hp just to overcome the wind at 100 mph? I remember it was abysmal. lol
"as you saw in Cleetus' video" no Kevin you beat him to posting. How does it feel ? Ha ha great job and the aero looks pretty good on Soccer Mom 👍👌
Super cool. never would have thought that the air would go down the cowl and come out at the tire side of the car! and yes you have got to be one of the biggest data geeks on RUclips lmao kick ass in charlotte!
I know where there's a motor just sitting lazily away in a burnout car, kinda hanging out with that giraffe fella.
Looking forward to the behind the scenes go kart track video.
3:09, I'd call that the "golden hour", Kevin.
Next week on KSR: “we bought a wind tunnel!”
In Florida we just wait for Hurricanes to stop by. Lol
I have a 80 z28 just for goofing off at the drag strip. This was cool to see!
Soccer Mom is just a beautifl car, inside and out. Many thanks to Kevin and KSR for their sharing.
This color is sooo nice. I love it!!!
Great content. Very informative for me as i have a 81 z28. Love the soccer mom content, keep it coming.
The lighting, I'd call it dusk. That color in the wind tunnel looks amazing.
Golden hour is what it is called in actual photo or cinema photography. The reason is the high level of yellows and reds in the light. Florescent bulbs tend to be blue, so that made that color pop against the orange background.
The data says bigger engine? You can't argue with that!!
Damn I love those Fbody cars🤘🤘🤘🤘 Soccer Mom is sweet😁
That blue is popping!!!
Actually kev, we havent seen that james car create lift yet. Lol
That’s one badass and clean race Camaro! You got one hell of a fun platform to build on there.
I think we're all on the same page, we love your videos and love seeing your lady by your side as support (and shooting some footage😍)! Seriously, nothing better than your morning videos with my morning coffee ☕
16:19 The Camaro body design is helpful in the “go-faster” department. Impressive numbers when comparing to the other two vehicles tested.
That smoke test was super cool
Loved that casual "threw up the brake pressure up on the dash." Data is power!
In Unison...."We need a bigger motor." I had to laugh.
Always nice to see a windtunnel in use.
Very slick! Time for twin turbskies!!
Really learned alot from the wind tunnel and you. You are a data man for sure. Love the channel. Thanks so much for sharing. KSR rules.
North Carolina, NASCAR country!! Love soccer mom, just finished watch Taylor’s vid of you tuning it, Grey collab.
wheel well liners filling in the space around the wheels helps clean up the wheel openings.
Super Cool 👍 right up Kevin's alley 👍
6:17 Kevin tries to recreate his favorite Austin Powers scene
Solid comment

I'm impressed, you got your wind tunnel video posted before Cleetus.
Saturday morning coffee and KSR it's going to be a good weekend 😎
Keven, After your headlight " that would be ugly" comment, It brings to mind my Bosses words way back in 1979....."Looks Don't Win Races" lol
THAT was AWESOME. I think I want a wind tunnel...let me look on amazon...LOL
Seriously, that is incredible. To think the Cup guys and other racing folks spend weeks in those facilities. Oh, to be a fly on the wall...
The Cleetus rig takes a 1/4 mile to get around. That's pure 'Merica folks!
I didn't expect that air to stay as attached to the rear as it did. That impressed me.
Funny how that particular body style looks fast and the wind data confirms it.👍👌🤙
The Z-28 from that year had fender vents , and a air dam under the front bumper. I would like to see what would change. Pluss some head light covers. These cars also got raced in NASCAR I-ROC. Check out the front bumper shape that they used.

That's crazy watching the smoke around the cowl hood. I had no idea just how effective a cowl was for ramming air.
Super cool 😎
This is Kevin’s version of DisneyLand...
I knew you were going to geek out on the data aspect of it bit thats pretty cool to know the drag data, may be able to adjust something for gain
That was a really cool opportunity! Alot of data for you Kevin. Hope Soccer Mom can make some solid passes and go some rounds.
14 minutes in, I'm imagining some CNC machined shaped perspex blocks that you can pop in to fill those headlamp recesses as part of track prep...
Soccer Mom is a awesome looking car !
Kevin, I now see why the big time cars run their turbos angled behind the front tires. Seeing that air enter the cowl induction and exit behind the front wheel was the ah ha moment.
