      We raised three vizsla and they will be my favorite breed forever. They only respond well to positive training without any raised voices. We taught all of our vizslas the phrase ‘in your mouth’ which meant to pick up soft toy. We used that command when she was over excited and when people came to the door. She tended not to jump when she had a toy. Good luck and have fun!

    I used to walk my V 3-4 hours a day. 15 min walks are barely warmups. Off leash in a yard is not enough to burn off all that energy. What helped a lot was doing weekly puppy and other training classes such as agility or bird hunting. Lots of socializing with other dogs that can match his energy would be good too. My girl did not slow down until she was 9 years old so be prepared for this. Vizslas were bred to hunt for hours everyday. I bought a mountain bike and took her on trails to get her properly exercised. Love your videos because I’m getting a V pup this summer and LC is a good reminder of what I went through 17 years ago. Haha love it when they get the zoomies.

      I’m looking forward to long walks and runs with him once he gets older. The vet advised only walking him for 5 mins every month of his age but I’ve now started taking him in the garden after his walks for a good run around to burn off any extra energy and that has seemed to help a lot. Thank you for your comments, glad your enjoying the videos. 😊

    They love to learn new things, training him to do more than sit, stay, lie down, he would love an obstacle course if you had the time and patience to teach him how to use it, and changed it's content by adding new things. It will get easier when he can walk further, but it's important not to overdo the walking to early, which I know is difficult with such a high energy dog, but take courage you'll be doing the right thing for him in the long term.

  • @Andy-yu7ux
    @Andy-yu7ux 4 года назад +3

    No such a thing as too much exercise...they are very high energy dogs. You are going to fall crazy in love with this breed. Chewing up things are a sign of too much bottled up energy, they get bored and frustrated easily. This can be a sign for you to measure the amount of walk time for him. Just love it, enjoy the puppy time as they physically grow up in a hurry, but remain puppy like for years with their energy.

    Out vizsla is 11 weeks old. We quickly discovered that she would sleep throughout the entire night if we let her sleep with us so that’s what we did. She takes her naps in her crate during the day and sleeps in bed with us at night. She gets a full night sleep and so do we.

    We have a 13 week old Vizsla Archie and after walk when he tends to run around the garden, we know he is wasted. we give him something to chew and straight to crate. And he calms immediately. We use a create also during the day because we found that it's the only place where he can settle. (He can't do it in his bed next to sofa).

Our lab puppy is the same age and although a different breed I was worried we were doing something wrong as she didn't sleep through the night until 16 weeks, was so bitey and needed constant attention compared to other people's perfect puppies! You will get into a routine and look back at those crazy puppy times and laugh. I run him every morning for 1/2 hr then he naps till 11 and back for another run at 1 to 2 pm. I've also been watching Zak George's videos (link below)-- he starts from his first day getting a border collie puppy and shows his process. Mostly, he just shows how much patience and time it takes, especially with these energetic breeds. I don't love his training style. I kind of find a spot between him and McCann, but maybe it will help. If you can find a 30 foot leash and some open space, that might help too. We don't have a backyard so that is what we're planning on. We've heard that most puppy problems are from too much mental and physical energy. Fingers are crossed it works! Not sure if you still check comments on your older videos, but I just wanted to thank you for posting these....I still have to watch the rest of your vids, which I will! We got our Rhodesian Ridgeback pup, we are on starting week three and are having much the same experience as the two of you. A lot of things we did right, so I should be thankful! Potty training, brilliant, limited access to our home and multiple playpen areas. I big no no, which my husband did the very first night was put him in our bed :( , but that being said he has slept almost through the night since day one! Goes to bed around 8, wakes up one time, around 12-1am, sleeps until 4......we get up at 4 so it's no problem. I am crate training him during the day, but I have yet to leave him completely alone, which I HAVE to do soon in order to get my life back! Sorry to go on and on,.... I laugh at a lot of the earlier comments about advice on which videos to watch (Zak, McCann, etc), I have watched them ALL x 100 + Susan Garrett's podcast and online training videos, and nothing prepares you for reality! I tried chicken with my guy and he nearly bit my hand off! My biggest challenge is that he is SO food motivated he can hardly focus to start training. No problem with sit, down, targeting the bed, but still working on eye contact (focus). Anyway....thank you again, will watch the next videos in succession, as I imagine more and more good times are coming???!!!!

They need to run for at least an hour a day. As puppies, be careful because they aren’t developed. But they need more than walking. They are high octane dogs. Take him to a park and let him goooo.

We’ve used so many of their techniques like hiding treats, scatter feeding, lots of brain game, even a cardboard box with scrunched paper and treats in it. Our boy will be 3 next month and the first 12 months we’re how you described the first 2 weeks. 😭😭😭😭😭 then I just stuck to 2 x 20 minute training sessions a day and he us still batsh$t crazy as all good Vs are but sleeps till 11 or 12 and a world from where we were. Love these videos!!!! I had a vizsla and that doesn't sound like it is even close to enough exercise. He will also need more exercise as he gets older I suspect. When my vizsla was about a year old up to 8 or 9 years old we would ride our bike up mountains with her and she would easily run 40 km before getting tired. I was a competitive runner and even taking her on a run with me going 4 min/km for 5-10 km wouldn't be enough exercise. Can you go to any open spaces where he can be off leash and run a lot of distance? I fear you'll start to think he has behavioral problems when really all he needs is to run!
