@@SVKLOrchids I in Australia, only have two Catesetums, one deflasked in November and has grown another bulb with six leaves. Do you think they go into dormancy being only a small plant? The other more grown up cat has just started to lose its bottom leaves, has a nice big bulb. Should I hold back a bit on watering now? Entering Autumn soon, temps are 29 degrees most days in day, 21 degrees at night, 60-80% humidity most days
@@nariepittman4632 I think it’s a bit early to withhold water. Let the bulbs mature for another couple of months and then cut the fertilizer and reduce water.
Thank you! Cattleya bulbs will often shrivel a bit during the growth period but they should fatten once the new growths are maturing and able to generate their own food.
Great you're getting your son involved. Plants are one of my oasis's of sanity due to my earliest childhood experiences. Great info...Fat healthy roots is always a sign of health!
@@SVKLOrchids I indirectly got your care tip from @hillbilly orchids while ago. And after that, mine started thriving. Back 5 years ago, I kept killing them but I was so intrigued by the blooms and the variety… I think I have 5-6 different ones now. And they are doing well.
I have a Laeliocattleya that went through a similar process - once I repotted it into good medium it made new roots and then the old shriveled pseudobulbs slowly reinflated. It was scary how shriveled they got when it was trying to make new roots though!
@@SVKLOrchids yep, now they’re barely wrinkled at all they really plumped up! Hoping my new growth has some flowers in the sheath but considering it had to grow a whole new root system I’m not holding my breath.
I have a C maxima that I bought as division. It took a while for it to come along but now it has. But it shoot out new growth as a mad man! No length in the new shoots, no cheats just new shoots. What am I doing right or what am I doing wrong?
Thanks
Much appreciated!!
@@SVKLOrchids you’re welcome! You are my “go-to” Catesetum guy and cattleya whisperer!

Your son is so cute, God bless him. Thanks for this video! Some of my Cattleyas shrivel the bulbs and I don’t know why. Thanks again !

¡Gracias!
De nada!
Good job with the purpurata. I've had one that did the same thing. There's hope!
I’m hoping it fattens back up this summer!
And thank you for the donation!! Much appreciated!
Thanks!

Oh wow they really shrank. But the new psb looks great !!!! Thanks for sharing your experience, every but counts 💝💝💝
Ya, those shriveled bulbs are a bit embarrassing 😅 But hopefully they help someone else!
Thank you for sharing the tip… I wish I saw this video 5 years ago. 😅
Ha! I wish I didn’t have to make this video! That poor plant 😅

@@orchidsbythelake that’s good to hear!!
Informative video as always. You have a handsome lively son. Bet he is smart like his Dad👍
Thank you!! 😁
In cases like that it's always good to have a nice amount of energy reserved.
Exactly!
Oh wow! That did shrink those bulbs! 😳 but definitely looking better!
I can’t wait until they fatten again! 😄
Good morning Stephen, that Laelia is classified as carnea here in Brazil, semi alba has a different shade of red on the labellum.
Yes, I misspoke in that video! 😅😅
Hunter certainly isn't camera shy, is he?
lol no, he’s not
My C purpurata grows a lot of roots in winter. Its growing in inert media. I think yours will take off next growing season.
I think so too! 😃😃
I can do this! Will the p. Bulbs recover?
Love your son!
Thank you! Yes, the bulbs should recover.
