The (second part of the attack) was fabricated as a means to go to war with North Vietnam. Secondly, I never stated that the US was ever justified in its intervention in Vietnam, in fact, I personally do not think the US was justified. - We did not show the Ho Chi Minh quote at 7:34 in its full context, which is an honest mistake of ours. We fully take responsibility for that. - We did not mention the use of Agent Orange, which we think would be a very interesting topic for a follow-up video. We regret not mentioning chemical warfare in this video.

My grandpa is now 90. He's a Vietnamese. He fought the French since he was 13, then the Japanese when he was 15. He later on joined Viet Cong to fight the Americans. He was captured twice, brutally tortured (which resulted in 10 missing teeth and a bullet in his shoulders; the shrapnel still remains inside his body). He was released when the war ended, happily marched into the city of Saigon. The joy didn't last long. He marched towards the Northern border to fight of Chinese forces in 1979 and later joined the Expeditionary forces in Cambodia to fight Pol Pot. Of course he's now retired. His name is Nguyen Van Dong - alive and well. Three of his sons died during the war, two of them were only 9 and 10 when they died (of a bomb raid which hit their shelter). He grieved as much as anyone would when they lost their love ones. My mother is his 9th child, and also the last child. He kept a lot of medals inside his cabinet in the rural province of Ben Tre. He also kept a picture of me since I have gone studied abroad in Hungary. He said that he survived too many wars, and he hoped that he would also live until the day I returned which is 3 years from now. I love him more than anyone. Update: he's still doing well, just received his 2nd jab. Still one year left to my graduation. Can't wait to see him! Update: he’s doing well, should say he’s now 92. Grandma can’t hear well, so they can’t really talk to each other (without shouting). It’s sad to see how you can see each other, but can’t hear what the other says. I hope there’s a way to fix this. Update: he’s currently undergoing extensive treatment from a stroke he had. It’s not promising ngl. He told me he’s gonna wait until the day I come back… Last update: hi everyone, i hope anyone’s reading this is doing alright. It’s unfortunate to announce that my grandfather passed away yesterday in his sleep on the 30th of January 2023. He’s 93 years old. He couldn’t keep his promise of staying alive until the day i get back. It’s only 5 months left…I’m in a really bad place. I lighted a candle in a church in Vienna, hoping that he can rest in peace, always overlooking me as I grow up. I sincerely thank everyone for their kind comments. I guess this is the end of our story. Additional update: this is a sad update. My grandma also passed away today, on 26th of March, 2024. She’s 90 and had dementia. I’m very sad but also somewhat relieved now that she can reunite with my grandpa, although I love her so so much. I would like to thank everyone again for their lovely wishes. Your attention makes their story so much more meaningful. I hope we can all carry their stories and memories to our heart so that they can forever live within us. With much love, Simon.
@@Timoshemperoni You should. It’s relatively cheap, amazing food, friendly people. I’d advise you to spend only a couple of days in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh. Spend your time more in some other regions as well because they’re really underrated. Hope you can make it.
Lots of respect to your grandfather! I will repeat what I have already commented under the video: I am from the Czech republic and Vietnamese make up the third largest minority (after Slovaks and Ukrainians) since a lot of them came here to study when Czechoslovakia was still a socialist country and they decided to stay mostly due to the economic reasons. From my point of view they are very pleasant hard-working people adapting to the new enviroment better than the Arabs and Africans in Germany or France. It’s still impressive how Vietnam faced off against giants like the French Empire, the Japanese Empire, the US, China, and on top of that still managed to invade and retain successfully Cambodia and stop a g$nocide. Simply impressive.
The Vietnamese got that from another General who successfully threw off the Foreign rule from a distant Imperial power. I think his name was George Washington.
General Westmoreland was confident that the US Armed Forces would win using the strategy of attrition warfare. For every American soldier killed, the US forces would kill 10 VC/NVA. John Paul Vann, top US military advisor in Vietnam, calculated that to win in this fashion, the US of A would have to lose 500,000 dead and it would take 10 years to win. If North Vietnam had gone Total War and the Americans had decided to keep the war going using the same strategy, they would have to kill 5 million VC/NVA in 10 years time.

Ho Chi Minh spent years in Western countries like the US, England and France and even in some African countries. He is not a guy that you would assume as being brainwashed but actually effectively fusing different ideologies. In the US he spent a long time observing the black rights movement and got in touch with many black leaders. Abraham Lincoln's ideologies heavily influenced Ho Chi Minh to the point that parts of Lincoln's speech about human rights were referenced in Vietnam Independence Declaration
You know the West is the protector of freedom of thought, therefore whoever thinks differently or contradicts them is not using their freedom to think, because no one free would think of thinking against them
Of all of the leaders to establish a movement and create a government in modern history, his record and beliefs are the most benevolent in my mind. Uncle was a fair and pragmatic leader who genuinely wanted a great future for EVERYONE in Vietnam. One Vietnam, One People. He spent a lot of time trying to unify the region, not just Vietnam and went to numerous peace talks, trying to court cooperation with the world during his days of exile and travel. The only stains on his record that I am aware of was the injustice enacted on farmers as the economy transitioned to a managed market economy as opposed to a state owned economy such as NK. The growing pains were hard and while not perfect, he is one of the few leaders who never murdered or mutilated his own population in the name of "freedom" or "development."

I'm currently visiting Vietnam, and just visited the war crimes museum in Ho Chin Minh. The pictures are heartbreaking. I can't take them out of my head. I'm not American, or from any country that colonized Vietnam, but the stories and pictures in that museum just makes me want to apologise to the Vietnamese people on humanity's behalf.
With everything the world has done to Vietnam? They’re friendliness and welcoming nature has to be the 8th wonder. It’s incredible how optimistic and strong-willed they are as a people.
@Justus Immelmann I can't blame the Vietnamese for how they treated American POWs. They were fighting for their independence against a very unpopular regime (Propped up by foreign interests through oppression and corruption), and here come these foreigners who constantly bomb them and destroy their environment with chemical weapons.
@Justus Immelmann problem is that's the literal truth no matter how you class it as "Commie Propaganda". Look if you want to be a US shill that's on you, but to actively deny a country's history is just plain idiotic. More so the fact that Vietnam isn't a communist country.
@Justus Immelmann Or you're the one who has been fed propaganda. If you're such a buff on the history of propaganda I'm sure you're familiar with The Church Committee and their findings. The fact of the matter is that US intervention caused untold hardship in both countries you mentioned, just as it did in Chile, Nicaragua, and still does in Colombia, Venezuela, and all parts of the Middle East, and that intervention is strictly for monetary gain, just as it was during the Banana Wars, the Philippines and so on. Capitalist imperialism is nothing new and it's only the extremely naive that could somehow believe all this foreign intervention is for the sake of benevolence or self-defense. It's interesting that you also throw in the thinly veiled xenophobia of attacking the Viet Cong over war crimes when the United States' hands were just as dirty in that war. Perhaps better to realize that war is an awful thing that turns men into monsters no matter which side they're on and it's best to be avoided at all costs, instead of wasting countless lives and infinite money waging neverending war for the sake of arms-producers, news media, PMCs and other corporations.
Emilio Aguinaldo was a douche. If he wasn’t, Philippines would’ve be pre-Vietnam. (Yes I know Vietnam had foreign support, but the Philippines did get foreign support from Japan)
US policy was always to give the Philippines their independence and it became law to due so in 1935. The Philippines were a few years from getting their independence when the Japanese invaded. We possessed Cuba too after the Spanish American War and they became independent in 1902.

My mom's ancestor is Hoang Ke Viem, a general under Nguyen Dynasty. He lead people fought against France. Later on, the next generations always joined to fight against invasions. My mom old house used to be a weapon supply for Viet Cong. Her dad and other relatives are all soldiers. It make me feel very proud about myself.
As a Vietnamese, my dad always has a funny saying: "The invaders of Vietnam never won, because there was nothing to win in Vietnam!" This is because Vietnam was a very poor and rural country, if there was an invasion, Vietnamese would burn down their straw huts (which are flammable) and run to the South. The invaders never got anything from the invasion. Vietnam were always the underdogs, but they had determination!

As a foreigner recently living in Vietnam, I am realising that there is so much about Vietnam propagated in the West that is (perhaps unsurprisingly) one-sided and bias, but has managed to linger in popular culture for so long. Uncovering it myself in-situ has been eye-opening and videos like this help greatly. Kudos to this video for highlighting the century of conflict (indeed millenia considering the Chinese) that Vietnam has endured. Context is everything and so much context is missing from the West's understanding of Vietnam. As an example, the most surprising for me was Vietnam's subsequent fight *against* the Khmer in Cambodia, which was another communist regime. Communism is used so liberally to paint over what are complex situations, so I'm glad this video finished by saying that the underlying motivation of the Vietnamese was that of unification and liberty, adding much-needed context to what is typically seen as a one-dimensional story.
They only clashed because Khmer Rouge believed after Khmer Issarak, and Laos Issarak (freedom fighter rebels) help Vietnam defeated U.S, Ho Chi Minh agenda changed toward the non Vietnamese rebel groups and believed he wanted to unifed Indochina under Vietnam policy ( to fight off their number one enemy China). Well Little Saigon hosted several Trump rallies here in Silicon Valley California. Guess they still remember being stabbed in the back by the Democrats.
France is the U.S. oldest ally, and coupled with the Truman Doctrine, that led directly to American intervention in the war, as it hoped to repeat its success in Korea.
A little more context on that helicopter crew as that man desrrves to be recognized for his actions. This story was told to me during my service when we were discussing lawful orders. Hugh Thompson was a reconnaissance helicopter crew tasked with flying over a village to determine if their harbored pro-vietcong sentiment. During this time all he saw was the bodies of Vietnamese civilians murdered by US forces. He then took his helicopter and landed in the line of fire of american troops and aimed their guns at the perpetrators to prevent more killings. After approaching the leadership and preventing more bloodshed he then was able to convince the civilians to leave their bunkers to be evacuated and flew a young injured child to a hospital (those reconnaissance helicopters dont have much room). Afterwards he announced on radio: “It looks to me like there’s an awful lot of unnecessary killing going on down there. Something ain’t right about this. There are bodies everywhere. There’s a ditch full of bodies that we saw. There’s something wrong here.” and filed a report that helped create a cease fire. Later, he would testify against multiple U.S. army personnel and continued to fight to get justice. For his efforts he recieced death threats, people would leave dead animals on his porch, he ended up divorced with severe PTSD.
i can see why people would send death threats, but why the dumping of animal corpses on his porch? whoever did those should realize that in their pursuit to prove their point, they became as vicious as the US invaders
The Vietnamese youth could still drop their tears every time when watching the kind of this video or something else that's similar. At least one of us had at least a family member who had died of the war in the past. The US had not even understood that Vietnam has 2.000 years of history fighting against invaders namely China, France, Japan and we have always won to hold back our freedom. Sadly, we had had to sacrifice a lot for nothing that we had done to the powerful countries.
And this isn't even mentioning how a few years after it won the war, Vietnam found itself at war with Communist China after declaring a protectorate war against the Chinese backed regime in Cambodia.
This also left out that Col. Dewey was killed in Vietnam before America joined the war entirely and is thought to be one of the reasons that U.S. government had no trust for Ho Chi Minh. Additionally, they sort of glazed over just how much Ho Chi Minh really didn't care for communism later on and how he was effectively ousted and just kept as a figurehead/icon for a chunk of the war.
@@TheVoracity Yes that is the reason the Tet offensive was such a failure. Le Duan and his cronies launched it against the advice of Vo Giap, and Ho was too ill to stop him.
@alo alo yeah like we kind of let the Mongols in for a few times (abandoning the cities, poisoning the water sources, cutting their supply routes and intercepting their supply sources) and then finally strike them at their weakest. And the Mongols fell for that 3 times (1258, 1285 and 1287-88)
"We would rather sacrifice everything than lose our country, definitely refuse to be slaves! Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom!" A legendary saying of the great leader of my nation, Ho Chi Minh, a short saying that is associated with the nation and that sentence is always in my mind. I am Vietnamese and I am very proud of my forefathers and my people. I am 23 years old this year, but since I was 15 years old, I have learned about my own national history. Especially about the resistance war against the US, the biggest and most glorious war of my people, if you ask what hell is like, let's talk about the war in Vietnam. Our forefathers have from bare feet and empty hands brought Glory and Pride to the nation and us generations to come. GLORY FOR VIETNAM!
South Vietnam was free until the North and the VC invaded and mass murdered millions, put people into concentration camps and then ruled as a dictatorship. That is 'freedom'?
The United States was defending South Vietnam. Which was invaded by North Vietnam unprovoked, South Vietnam did nothing to deserve this war. The United States stepped in to defend South Vietnam, North Vietnam took away the freedoms and the will of the people in South Vietnam, not to mention the countless atrocities the North committed against them. This war was not glorious in any way, its a travesty a dictator bent on growing his influence by destroying the lives of millions of people. A once prosperous South Vietnam destroyed by the North now forced to suffer poor conditions that exist in Vietnam today.
I just finished watching "The Sympathizer", that "nothing is more precious than independence and freedom" really hits different after watching that show.
It really is though. It's all about the Vietnamese soldiers and whatnot, completely forgetting that the South Vietnam army fought against the north in what was a Civil war

It is easy to laugh at similar statements to people who don't have any experience or hasn't seen such advance technologies. Remember, they ARE just farmers, lagged by the times. The US ultimately secured what it sought, a country not allied with China or the USSR, this came to fruition with the Sino-Vietnamese war and the subsequent formation of ties and military agreements between Vietnam and the US to counter China. The US's only concern is ensuring that it's sphere of influence goes mostly unchallenged.
@@GuyShōtō No, from the very beginning Ho Chi Minh knew that Vietnam cant rely on anyone. And till this day Vietnam doesnt have neither allies or enemies. I'm an American, and I believe we should've helped Ho Chi Minh fight the French and the Chinese when he asked for help. But we were far too busy pleasing our allies and Stalin to help Vietnam. It saddens me that we had turned our backs on our ideals of freedom and independence from foreign nations so far that we were willing to let a nation that specifically asked for our help, fall to the tyrannical influence of Russian and Chinese communism.

The American’s knowledge about the root of the Vietnam war is too simple, so they make big mistake. The Vietnam war is not only just start in 1954 (Genever meeting in which some superpowers cut Vietnam become two parts) or in 1964 (American’s landing troop came). It’s started in 1858 when the French attacked and colonized our nation. The Vietnamese in that time just simply did what their ancestors had did in 4000 years with invasion forces such as: Chinese, Mongol, Manchu, Japanese and French v.v. similar with American in the war with England for their independence. Ho Chi Minh have no choice after US president Rooservelt and Wilson refused to help Vietnam but support the French (US bear 80% cost of war for French). In this case “the enermy of the enermy is the friend”, theirfore we had to find the support from USSR and China; But we still keep independence with them in our direction. The remainings is history in which the Vietnamese made a tremendous sacrifice for free their country. Thank godness now we have peace, unify and concentrate on developing our country . Honesty, Vietnamese don’t want to fight with anyone, we just want to live, work to earn, take care our young children and old parent, enjoy our life and make friend with other nations. because most of our elders joined the war volutarily to fight for our homeland. The US or Southen VN have a place to run but we don't. Viet Nam is our homeland and we're not gonna go anywhere but fight.
I don't know what is happening in Thailand, whatever happens in Thailand is not comparable to Myanmar. Civil war, military dictator and more than half of the country is on fire.
That's exactly what the US DIDNT want to tell the French at the time. Factoring in the domino theory and threat to the British and French colonies, the US told France to KEEP fighting. And they didnt have much of a choice of involvement or the French would abandon the war, but to be honest we all know contemporarily how that turned out when the US did get involved.
@@alt0799 I don't see how sacrificing our people to help the French and British continue to exploit colonies in the far east is a good thing. Dominio theory is nonsense. @@robograham12 Without sounding like a douche, you seem to have misinterpreted what I said, and judging by the amount of likes you have, so has a lot of other people. I never said it was a good thing. I'm just saying there were legitimate economic and political reasons for the intervention regardless if they were ridiculous or not. You dismiss the DT yet you don't give anything to explain why. Communism was a legitimate threat to the US in Indochina. It's very easy to say it was nonsense now with retrospect to everything that happened, but you gotta take in mind that this was during the HEIGHT of cold war tensions and China was arguably the leading communist nation of the world, and since they were assisting the Vietminh the French essentially pressured the US to involve themselves or they'd pull out. America wanted to continue colonialism in Indochina to help Europe and Japan resuscitate economically after the massive recessions of WW2. Mayala was specifically crucial to this and was suffering from a communist rebellion at the time. This and the rumours of Chinese involvement in Vietnam was a major threat to the US and could have led to a spread of Communism across South East Asia. So yeah, it was far more complicated and a lot was at stake if the US didn't get involved, economically and politically. Not to say it was morally right, coz it wasn't. If you want a real example of irony, the US actually SUPPORTED the Vietminh during the Japanese occupation, and they even saved HCM from death at one point, but unfortunately other factors were deemed too important for them to follow through with their support.
Rest In Peace to all the Vietnamese who died in their pursuit of independence, and to the American soldiers, marines, and airmen who died for unscrupulous politicians.

I hugely respect this channels work, however I also find the fact this isn't mentioned at all quite worrying, certainly as it leads to the questioning of credibility in general of the channel. That seems unjustified in my judgement, but that isn't the case for everybody who watches. A historians core mission in society is to stimulate critical thinking on current day events & trends by using the past as a point of reference. The Gulf of Tonkin Incident is one of my stock references in this, it deserves more context than given here....
Very true, he did. The issue is it is literally all that is said, only mentioned in passing as being a/the casus belli for the USA, nothing more. Only the mention of the CIA assasination just before could be seen as implying that the event was an American machination. However that is only so if you are already familiar anyway. The 'false flag' nature of the event isn't spoken about at all, which is all the stranger given it is the Vietnamese perspective given here... @ John Doe & @Dooly remarked the same thing btw.
As a Vietnamese citizen, I'm fully aware of how awful these wars were in regards of their impacts, even in today. Because my dad used to be a soldier fighting Mekong Delta in 1970s, he still made me think about the huge damage that the war gave to him. We all acknowledge that war cannot be the solution, it's just hurting innocent people's lives. These have gone pass but the lessons for today are never outdated to learn. That should be encouraged more for younger ones around the globe.
you are saying war isn't a solution , but your parents fought for their freedom where you are a free citizen , from the history we always see that when it comes about right war is the only solution , look in Palestine , is negotiating is a solution there ? it's war that's the only solution , history is written by the victorious that's what they say .
My grandmother was a VC soldier, participating in the resistance war as a guerilla and intelligent against the US and the Korean Tiger troop in Binh Dinh province. During the day she lived like a normal person, but at night she fought against the American. During the war, My grandmother was pregnant and gave birth to my father in the Jungle. I remembered her telling me that she had to leave my father in the jungle to avoid being detected by American soldiers all night. The next day, when the situation was stable, she brought my father back, fortunately he was fine. My grandfather at that time, was a medical soldier of the North vietnamese army, was mobilized to the South right before the birth of my father, so he was born without knowing who his father was, and my grandmother did not reveal this to my father, because she was afraid that my father might accidentally tell others and suspect that she was a Viet Cong. Therefore, my father grew up suffering from being mocked by his friends, as an illegitimate son, until peace was restored, my grandfather returned from the battlefield, and since then he told me that he has always been proud that his father is a hero.
I never knew my great uncle was a Vietnam veteran until after he died when I was about 7. My grandpa is a soldier in Vietnam war. He told us many hardships they had to face back then and I can see the reflection of it through the fact that all of his teeth was cracked by American and now he couldn't even eat properly. However he didn't show any resentment towards the US, he just told me to cherish our country's peace and freedom because it was paid by our ancestor's blood. And I also know that the American soldiers are more or less the same. They didn't purposely want to fight, I feel that. I feel so sorry for both side's sodiers for having been involved in such a painful war.
When the Vietnam war ended I was 12 years old. 5 years earlier I read a book on Ho Chi Min and could understand his goals. I was summoned to my schools headmaster for my bad behavior. My crime was to state out aloud that the Vietnam war was a lie and the Vietnamese only wanted freedom to rule themselves. The solders are not to blame but their leaders were. I stood my ground and many students and teachers had my back. I'm so glad the Vietnamese won their right to rule themselves and so sorry for all the lost soles on both sides. As an American, I've been taught that this war was a futile effort to stop the spread of communism in an era where we felt greatly threatened by the Soviet Union's mass influence. Despite what idiots online might say, this was a war that we never have, and never will be proud of. It caused a massive divide in the country, soured our reputation, and costed the lives of many American soldiers that, unlike in WW2, didn't understand what they were truly fighting for and weren't prepared for what they were being sent into.
With much love,
Simon.

It’s still impressive how Vietnam faced off against giants like the French Empire, the Japanese Empire, the US, China, and on top of that still managed to invade and retain successfully Cambodia and stop a g$nocide. Simply impressive.

Vietnam had one strategy: you don't have to win, just don't lose. Outlasting the enemy, was the key.
Not true. The Tet offensive was a clear military victory.
The Vietnamese got that from another General who successfully threw off the Foreign rule from a distant Imperial power. I think his name was George Washington.
Yeah, that's attrition war for ya
General Westmoreland was confident that the US Armed Forces would win using the strategy of attrition warfare. For every American soldier killed, the US forces would kill 10 VC/NVA.
John Paul Vann, top US military advisor in Vietnam, calculated that to win in this fashion, the US of A would have to lose 500,000 dead and it would take 10 years to win. If North Vietnam had gone Total War and the Americans had decided to keep the war going using the same strategy, they would have to kill 5 million VC/NVA in 10 years time.
@@hendrikvanleeuwen9110 only militarily for the US. Tet offensive demoralized the American public and had dire effects that eventually quicken the US withdraw.
Let's not forget that there is a quote of Washington in the Vietnam manifesto

With everything the world has done to Vietnam? They’re friendliness and welcoming nature has to be the 8th wonder. It’s incredible how optimistic and strong-willed they are as a people.
@Justus Immelmann I can't blame the Vietnamese for how they treated American POWs. They were fighting for their independence against a very unpopular regime (Propped up by foreign interests through oppression and corruption), and here come these foreigners who constantly bomb them and destroy their environment with chemical weapons.
ruclips.net/video/Di7BLBlNFX0/видео.html
The vietcong and south Vietnamese, USA all of them tortured ruthlessly and there is no good guy in this war.

Are you insane? Most 'western information' about the War is sympathetic to the North Vietnamese.
Khmer Rouge believed Vietnam was setting up puppets / agents in the Khmer Rouge camp to overthrow their party. This lead to slaughtering innocent Cambodian civilans and murdered 4,500 Vietnamese mention in history. Khmer Rouge was close with Viet Minh. They also trained Khmer Rouge until 1970.
Pol Pot also relocated majority Khmer population to the countryside after U.S illgeally bombed neutral Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh Trail. ..

We were just simple rice farmers who were trying to be free from the slavery of the french. Sensing that we were close to winning our freedom, they went and asked for helped from their big brother america. I thought america was against slavery but it turns out they decided we needed to remain slaves to the french. I'm not sure how but the clever americans convinced half our country to turn on each other with a brainwashed puppet leading them.
We now had to fight against a Massive godlike force that had metal birds that dropped fire from the skies. They say you dropped more ordinance on us than all of WWii combined. You burned our people with napalm. But the worst is that you poison us with agent orange which i found our had devastating affects on a persons dna, causing cancer and deforming babies. Your hatred of us even extends to the next generation. Good cover up saying that you were using it to try and clear the trees.
You wiped out nearly 4 millions civilians and the real numbers could be a lot higher, we're not sure because your carpet bombing just eradicated the land of everything, corpes wouldn't even remain because of the sheer ammount of bombs shredding the earth. We can't count bodies if you completely erase everything.
So to survive we literally had to dig into the earth and live like worms, it was our only way to survive. But that wasn't enough for you, you couldn't bare the thought of us being free and would rather end us than to let that happen so you chase us into the ground to finish us. The worst part is you try to praise us saying that we used them for ambushes but any decent intelligent person would ask why would we risk exposing the extrance to our final last safe place and our families?
You used the civilians as meat shields because you knew we wouldn't shoot at our own innocents people, while you slaughtered everyone you came across. The stories I would hear about how you would play out your darkest fantasies saying you would make the nazi look innocent in comparison. You people are truly evil. You tried to claim our little fishing boat attacked your giant metal warships. How? With what?
You weren't trying to stop communism, you were just flexing how evil americans can be.
For our people, I hope they don't learn the truth of the horrors you committed. I don't have any hatred left, I'm just now scared. I'm scared of how evil you are.

This gave me a great perspective on the Vietnam war, thank you for making this. I especially liked the info boxes on the side with additional info and facts
I'm amazed by the comments, so many patriotic vietnam people telling story about their elders. Much respect from Indonesia. We SEA people endured so much war. Hope the problem in Myanmar, Thailand, and others SEA countries will be better. 🇮🇩
because most of our elders joined the war volutarily to fight for our homeland. The US or Southen VN have a place to run but we don't. Viet Nam is our homeland and we're not gonna go anywhere but fight.
I don't know what is happening in Thailand, whatever happens in Thailand is not comparable to Myanmar.

@@amadeus4398 just no
Amen! I did my IA on whether or not the Tonkin incident was justified
As an American, I see the Vietnam war as a waste of both American and Vietnamese lives. We should’ve told France to chill.
We say we are in favor of self determination, then turn around and brutally prevent other countries from making their own decisions. It's such hypocrisy.
@@robograham12
Without sounding like a douche, you seem to have misinterpreted what I said, and judging by the amount of likes you have, so has a lot of other people.

Well said.
you are saying war isn't a solution , but your parents fought for their freedom where you are a free citizen , from the history we always see that when it comes about right war is the only solution , look in Palestine , is negotiating is a solution there ? it's war that's the only solution , history is written by the victorious that's what they say .
War isn't the solution it's just highly profitable
I agree with a persons comment: war is profitable, only its who is making profit is the question.
Also we in the u.s have a saying,
War does not determine who is right - only who is left....
This is epic
It's so moving!
I never knew my great uncle was a Vietnam veteran until after he died when I was about 7. Every time I bring it up to my Grandma she says the only thing he ever said about being in the war was that “The worst thing they made me do was shoot innocent women and babies” That hurts my heart because lots of Americans did not want to be in Vietnam and in my Grandmas opinion we had no reason to be there
@taino20 Jesus do you think he was pressured into playing the game? Or do you think it was a direct order? Either way damn that’s awful
@taino20 yeah I couldn’t imagine what one would go through seeing such things. Especially knowing he was drafted into Vietnam which most people thought was pointless to begin with. Imagine coming to the realization that you are being sent to die for no reason out of your control. Not trying to defend these actions by the way.

My heart goes out to any Vietnamese families impacted by the war, and hopefully we can repair our relations in the many years to come 🇺🇸❤️🇻🇳

Therefore, throughout the 20th century, Vietnam fought against many enemies, some of whom were even former allies, such as China, for example.
