  • Here I built two Messerschmitt 262s from Matchbox, one from 1973 and a later version. The early bird is left unpainted but the later one gets a bit of attention for contrast. I hope you like 👍.

That takes me back... my first ever model kit, the old box 262, built out of the box... take me back to the '70's.

Great job on your Me 262! I have built many Matchbox kits, first ones in 1973. In my later years, I went back and built some of the kits I made back then, made some upgrades and they turned out really nice. Compared to some of the short run kits that exist now, some of these Matchbox kits are better....

The newer box depicts the wokewar 2 where German and US planes flew around together without trying to hurt each other.

Yep, the kits of my youth, I preferred armour to aircraft but interesting subjects and good quality for the price and time. A fun blast from the past.

I built quite a few Matchbox kits years ago and still have the completed models and I loved them. Easy, good fit and great looking when finished. I particularly liked the way the wings went together with no visible join mark as with other kits on the whole.

I still have my childhood build of this kit built in the early 70's. This makes me want to build the kit again. Even if these are not state-of-the-art kits now, they bring back so much nostalgia from our younger days, thanks again, another very enjoyable video of a simple classic OOTB build 👍👍👍

Loved this scheme ever since I build the same kit in the 90s as a teen. If Airfix released a 24th scale 262 this will be the scheme I'll be doing.

love these old matchbox model kits, when I was a kid and my mother asked me to pick one at the local toy shop, this was a difficult task as the box covers looked all so exciting to me.
Great build, one straight out of the box, the other one with refinement, I like both versions!

I understand that White 10 with the yellow band was actually a training aircraft and so wouldnt have been in combat. Correct me if im wring but thats what I read. Very nice builds. I have fond memories of building this when i was a teen and chucking it around rhe room because it had no parts to break off ! Would like to make it again now. Love your paint work.

Thanks for your comments as for the markings on the 262 with some Matchbox kits I build them in the spirit of the model rather than full accuracy as I would do with a more modern kit. I think these kits were a great introduction into the hobby for the younger modeller who would then do research and learn more about the subject and the love of the hobby would grow. 👍

The old Matchbox kit is a bit confusing the kit says W.Nr 112378 White 10 but that airframe was a later build and was used by Jg7 The scheme more closely resembles W.Nr 170041 which was first with EKdo 262 and then Kommando Nowotny (the yellow band is a Nowotny ID) and was used in a training film for III./EJG2 it saw at least some action as Franz Schall landed it with 25% damage on Oct 4th. This is all in the Me262 production log book.

Nice build. Thanks for telling us what products you used. I don’t have an airbrush, but I will be getting one in the future. It was nice to see the technique. It looks like the older kit was slightly larger. I am a bit conflicted about whether or not to use swastikas. As a Jew, I understand the absolute evil that symbolizes. But as a scale modeller, I like to build accurate kits, and as hateful as they are, the real plane would have had them, so I would include them on the tail surfaces. If they’re not included in the decal sheet any longer, I would get them from my spares box. Excellent build video. P.S. , confirming your stats, I am a 64 year old white male. But I did a girl who built models too…once.

@@jeffwarshaw6838 thanks for your comments, I am in the process of building the new 1/24 Airfix Spitfire and I am concentrating on painting techniques to put in that video so keep watching 👍.
As for markings, I would recommend you build the model how you want and what you are comfortable with.
I also point out that the side who used the symbol were roundly defeated and I would take hart from that.

This is one of the most beautifull jet planes that ever has flown. Not talking about efficiency. The lines of the planes are just fitting. It looks like a shark, though it is called "Schwalbe". If this would be a sports car, it would have been designed by a brand like Bertone.
An F16 could also been designed by Bertone... nice aircraft.

I remember building the Me262 in the late 70's and my Grandad (Ex RAF WWII) explaining to me that if the Nazi's had more of these the outcome of WWII could have been very different. I only just got myself a Revell1/32 Me262 A-1 last month and very much looking forward to building that. I still love building the re-boxed Matchbox Revell kits to this day a bit of sanding and filling has never put me off, growing up with that was all part of the prosses and enjoyment. The re-boxed 1/32 Spitfire Mk22/24 matchbox kit I have is going to look great with modern building and painting techniques. Again thanks for taking the time to make these vids, very enjoyable. It would be nice to see what this me262 kit would look like if it was all rescribed with a little rivet detail added but I totally understand why you've built it the way you did, looks great.

Question: I love Maskol too (the Microscale equivalent is 100% useless). But every time I use it I destroy a brush. In just a minute or too it dries on the bristles and nothing seems to dissolve it.
    Great model.

@@lllordllloyd maskol is not good for brushes so I have a couple of sacrificial brushes. When the maskol is dry you can roll most of it off and reuse the brush for more maskol. You can use other things like a cocktail stick or stretched sprue but I do prefer old brushes. 👍

That brings back memories from the mid 1970s. I built that Matchbox model and also several Revell versions. I was able to buy them from my local milk Bar at AU $175- $2.00+ depending on the size of the model. A Milk bar! Just across the street I lived at housing commision Flats. Apartments.👍🇭🇲🦘🐨🦈✌️
