One great detail: remember when Rudeus named his left arm "Heracles" back in S2 Part 1? That is some excellent mythological foreshadowing there.
Wow I've read the Light novel and some redundancy chapter but totally missed that part
@lightbringer6567 if you haven't read the dragon tales yet, it's amazing.
Holy shit i didnt even think about that WTF
@@lightbringer6567and his other is named Hulk.
This aired on Father's Day. And Slyphy announced her pregnancy on Mother's Day.
"Save your mother, even if it kills you." has additional layers when you know of Paul's idolizing of his own late mother. She'd been the only one to show him unconditional kindness and warmth back home. And she was the only person he ever loved before he met Zenith. Valentina died of illness when Paul was 11, brought on by her staying up late and comforting him when he was under house arrest. Pilemon and Amarant blamed Paul for it, eventually leading to him beating Pilemon within an inch of his life over using their mother's memory against Paul and escaping the Notos manor. Six or seven years later When he started falling in love with Zenith, the memories of his mother and thoughts of Zenith started overlapping in his thoughts.
Here he is presented a chance for a do-over: he can save a living reminder of his mother where he had failed before. He is instilling that same determination in Rudeus.
I have never seen this chunk in the web novel. Is it in the light novel version?
@@CairoShane It's in the Paul Gaiden. It deals with Paul's life between his birth and Rudeus' birth. Only the first two arcs of it got released in the discontinued mobile game, but the devs released the entire transcript and it's now floating on the internet.
A testament to Paul's strength: Rudy saw the Hydra's attacks but Paul felt them and dodged. Even the eye of foresight can't keep up with Paul's speed.
More of Rudy having zero toki(battle aura) unlike Paul.
@@user-db2uj9vc7s Paul also didnt get recoil from kicking Rudy away, becuase of his Toki battle aura negating it. Meaning he was hit due to being too good of a swordsman
He saw the hydra's attacks but couldn't comprehend what he was seeing in time. It was battle experience that allowed Paul to understand the situation and save Rudy
Rudy wasn't able to use his eye of foresight because the Hydra was too big for him to comprehend was he was looking at
Something that's not covered here, and likely won't be, is the reason for cremating Paul was so the labyrinth's latent mana couldn't reanimate him.
Well technically the need for burning bodies in this world has been established all the way back on Demon continent.
The other pendant is Elinalise's. Symbolizing her talking to Sylphie for the first time. They had already seen each other at university but she only took the courage to tell her that she was her grandma at the wedding party. Sylphie suspected it too, of course.
I don't know if it's been mentioned by anyone before, but the reason Paul is the only one who can cut the Hydra's heads is because of his short sword. It's a magical weapon that cuts better depending on how hard the material is. For example, it wouldn't be able to cut a loaf of bread, but due to how hard the Hydra's scales are it's the only weapon they have that could slice through it.
Yeah, that has mega rarely been seen in other reaction comments, as far as I've seen.
The Father's Day release was shrapnel to the heart. 😭
It's a huge whiplash, but thinking about it now, it also may have been intended as a way to get viewers to spend time with their father.
15:30 - Interested to see the reaction for next episode 😅
Paul's death is certainly one of the biggest emotional hits in the story, and the biggest yet.
I'd read the books, I'd listened to the drama CD, and I'd machine-translated the Paul Gaiden, and I still cried in the sauna after watching the episode. The episode truly exceeded my expectations.
Paul's passing is a key emotional moment, but my peak pain is that one thing that doesn't happen. Just knowing "crystallizes" the sorrow.
The hydra fight was so impressive! The animation was on point, and the pacing really made it look and feel like they were barely surviving the fight!
I'd assume their reaction to what happens in the next episode is going to be golden.
I think they try way too hard to continue this "Paul is awful, Paul is a mess, Paul probably thinks he's bad, Paul doesn't know what he's doing" shtick they have ever since the sex with Lilia thing. She incited it just as much as he did, and since then, they got married, because polygamy isn't a big deal here, and he's been a great father to his daughters.
The teleportation shit ruined a lot of people's lives, including his, and he's done so much for so many people since it happened. He's not some loser who should be embarrassed or ashamed, and hasn't been for years that we just weren't following his story. By the standards of this world and time period, the shit Paul has "done" when he was a young adult is so fucking mundane.
Paul is actually the type of person that would be in a "my role model" type of essay. After being mostly a not impressive or commendable person, he rose to the occasion and single handedly lead the entire search and rescue operation for all displaced people, saving probably tens of thousand of people. He also abstained from any sexual activity for 6 years just to stay faithful to zenith, even though he was married to lilia as well (of course, except a succumbus encounter). He's the shit, so he should be respected more
I mean even when he was younger he was still a genius that was fairly sharp all in all. Noticing stuff like how codependent Rudeus was getting with little context. Building up a fairly powerful friend network early on in life without his noble name as a backing and stuff like that.
Btw I highly recommend listening to Paul's final thoughts from the Mushoku Tensei CD drama. It hits really really hard...
Edit: nvm whoever put that there, you are AMAZING!!
RIP Pa/ul
A paraphrased excerpt from the novels:
Waking up was the worst. Though my body did not want to do anything, I somehow got out of bed. Each passing day, I worry if Zenith will ever wake up. I ate a meal with Lilia. I wasn't feeling hungry and when I tried to get it down, I nearly vomited it out. It wasn't until midday that Zenith sat up and spoke. Zenith's voice. It was a familiar voice, a voice that emits relief. I felt relieved. Paul had died, but we had managed to save the person he wanted to rescue. When Zenith hears about his death, she will surely cry. However, between Lilia, Zenith, and I, we can at least share the grief three-ways...
"Zenith lost everything. Her memories, knowledge, and wisdom. All three things that are vital to form a person. She's an invalid. She's not capable of remembering Paul. My mother doesn't even remember Lilia or I. Who? How? What happened that it became like this? To be not able to remember anything, in other words, she cannot grieve the death of Paul. We cannot share the grief with Zenith, such a fact is now clear. Ah... My heart is broken."
"Don't cheat. Don't cheat. We don't stand on cheating."
*LOL*
One of the best-directed fights (and aftermaths) I've seen in a long time.
I got spoiled by the anime community on this moment before even starting MT S2 but man, it still has tons of impact.
Strategically, Paul fucked up. Sacrificed himself with an unsevered head remaining. At least Roxy could burn the last stump if Rudy had died. Lucky the panic option worked
Damn.
why are here some parts that you cant see on crunchyroll? Is it a special version?
They are trying so hard to deny the Rudy-Roxy shipping that i can't wait to see the next episode.
The fact that the studio timed the anime's release so that this episode would be aired literally on *Father's day* is the most diabolical shit ever.
Ah at last, parents
Remember in S1 23, what Zenith told Rudy?
"I'd like you to wake me up when everything's ready."
Now she finally wakes up......but......
They really don't quite understand the fact that this world has a normal standard of having more than one wife. Also the fact that the main religion is the only thing that really supports staying true to one wife. Its still important to be true to sylphie and not "cheat" on her but its not something seen as a "negative" if rudy decided to have more than one lover. I am just waiting to see what they say about how things conclude to judge whether or not I am gonna be alright with their reactions going forward. I just hope they don't have a freaking constant misunderstanding of how everything operates and the meanings behind certain developments and other stuff like they screwed up with in frieren. If they get to frieren types of reactions for this series going forward I am gonna be massively disappointed like I was a while back.
Yes. Sleeping outside the marriage is moreso a neutral action than a negative or positive.
Now the funniest part is that this world has very heavy parallels to our world in terms of sexual dynamics. Widespread male monogamy in our world only became a thing once the West became dominant around the world and spread the Christian marriage values to non-Christian countries like Japan or China. Prior to the Westernization and Christianization of the world, most countries and empires allowed male polygyny whether in official marriage or unofficial intercourse. Multiple wives, harems, s3x slaves, concubines, prostitutes. All these were extremely common throughout the non-Christian world including Japan. Male monogamy only became the standard in Japan after WW2 when the Us westernized the nation.
Well to be fair unlike the novels the show never makes an effort to establish that. It actually does the opposite by mostly showing people who are either in a monogamous relationship and people who get mad at the idea of polygamy. There are a few hints of polygamy being ok but those mostly end up being throw away comments that seem either outlandish or downright bad. And as long as the show doesn´t support the idea it doesn´t matter how many youtube comments say otherwise. It simply will not stick as much in your mind.
Paul loved Zenith more than Rudy and Rudy more than Himself
Hitogami (man god) said he would regret it.....but the real truth is that either decision he made, whether he went to the begaritt or didn't, he would still regret it. As shown the regret for going was losing paul, but if he never went, everyone in the search party would have died, Zenith would have never been rescued, and he would have never met roxy again. If he chose not to go, roxy would have been saved by another adventurer and they would have gotten married. This battle was the true turning point. Will not spoil but this is definitely not the worst turning point.....turning point 4 is ALOT worse. Once again, will not spoil why.
BUT if you want spoilers here
Turning point 4: introduction to the dark timeline in which sylphie, roxy, and eris die and rudeus is left with nothing but hatred and regret
I'll leave a comment here to those who want spoilers
When hitogami urged rudeus to marry and bear children with Linea/Pursena, he was terrified about his reunion with roxy. Hitogami knows that the child born from Rudeus and Roxy (Lara) because she is the one who eventually defeats Hitogami. The only reason he tried to stop Rudeus from going to the teleportation labyrinth is because he knew Rudeus would save Roxy and eventually bare Lara. In the dark timeline Hitogami plays Rudeus like a puppet so he opens the basement door, letting lose a rat which eventually infects the pregnant Roxy, preventing Lara from being born
Where does that last part come from? I didn t remember it from the actual episode
It’s from an official drama cd of the LN chapter adaptated in the episode
Pausing the release of episodes so that they could release this episode on father's day was heinous.
Kudos Editor. So your editor is a big fan of Mushoku Tensei?
Is that last bit from the audio book?
no it's from the drama cd
Damn. I forgot there was Paul's last thoughts as a clip. How badass to see it. Who put this together for ya'll?!?
Whoever did must have spoiled Paul’s death to thek
I can foresee the boys hating the next episode thinking about what happens in it
Especially with alot of context that happens before and after skipped over.
Why I didn't saw "Paul final thoughts" in the series? Is this fan made?
yep
The monolog is canon, only the video is fanmade.
@@Vatsu03 I remember that read this part in novel but I can't find it anymore. Everybody saying that I'm insane...
From a audio version of that chapter, specifically it was a dvd written by the author
To be precise, search mushoku tensei cd drama
Just a heads up: there is a LOT of very very IMPORTANT cut content in the next episode, so I will try to make a summary on all the important things because the anime left out way too much. Im an anime only and by the time you guys see this comment youve probably already reacted to it. But since I dont have the patreon I will have to wait till next week to post all the important stuff.
wait there was a CD Drama after the end???
I can't wait to see their reaction to the next 2 eps😂. That's will be hilarious 😊
パウロの最後の考え?が見れてよかった。
Great reaction!
Damn this episode hits!
happy belated fathers day paul
Spoilers: 15:27 HA
Time to cry again ig
15:28
👀…
Their guard was too lowered 😅
YEP... that's it
パウロの最後の言葉は初めて聞いた😢
最後のパウロの声が変わっているし、声優が違うと思う。海外版だけのシーンかな?疑問が残る。
That was the voice actor for the CD drama. Different from the voice actor for the anime.
それはCDドラマの声優だった。アニメの声優とは違う。
THIS IS WHY YOU DONT WATCH THE OP! its so spoilery. why did you guys bother. now the initial reaction to the hydra and Zenith being there was lukewarm to boringg
:(
I love laughing at their naivety about Rudy getting more women 😂😂😂😂 such western narrow minded views of what a family should be
I think its more so, they don't want Sylphiette hurt by Rudy's actions to sleep with another women similar to Zeniths disbelief and sadness Paul has done
Just to remind you, in Japan infidelity is also openly condemned, so the whole situation should be explicitly seen through author's design and how he justifies polygamy in his own fantasy world, there's no real connection to 'western narrow minded views', I think
True, I live in central Asia, so it's always funny to me how all reactors shocked by multiple wives.
Spoilers below.
It's just narrow minded views in general. Not only "western" or whatever.
It's also very personal insecurity ego thing(understandably so, for the most part). Hence in a lot of modern culture, it's such a huge deal. Why "ntr" is infamous and it's the big thing to warn about it. While truly disgusting "genres" receive much less disdain. In fact, they are often promoted publicly and no one cares(used to get some of those YT community posts from 1 channel a lot until I blocked it, some had thousands of upvotes). I don't even want to say the "genres", you can probably guess when it comes to that sort of henta i content. One starts with an L, other starts with an R. Even huge anime YT-bers I have seen years ago promoting such. Quite nasty, to put it mildly.
But, all of that is why (typically a guy), even if the person is technically r*ped (by our current legal standards), most people still blame him for "cheating" and attack him(or laugh at him, or say he liked it). Most of which is also due to dogma and personal ego insecurity. Like "someone cheating on me is the worst thing ever, hurt, betrayal etc. So I hate cheaters, most disgusting" Like there is nothing worse.
Especially with how it was adapted in the anime (the changes were actually very good, especially with the cuts that were made, though I do wish a bit more was shown in the anime, but limited time and all)-lemme start over
Especially with how it was adapted in the anime, if roles(genders) were reversed, internet will be screaming about Rudeus being a predator and a r*pist. Oh boy, people will have field day. But since it's other way around, most people blame Rudeus almost entirely. Even though he was under extreme duress and in no shape mentally to consent to something like that. Calling him a "cheater" and crapping on him.
Even worse in some ways, comparing to a sober guy coming onto a severely drunk girl. There are laws for a reason, including for providing testimony under mental duress(and physical), making it inadmissable in court.
Ey, even Sylphie had no faith in him. Sad lmao Even tho we know he was devoted and 100% honest when he vows to be faithful. Obviously what happened next ep. was under extreme circumstances. If he was mentally stable and not half dead, he would 100% not have done that. (certainly not at the time)
Some need to stop acting like he went out and picked up a random chic. Sylphie hurting my bois feelings lol (Mylphie is top tho)
Well, there is more to these relationships, if you read the LN. Between Roxy and Sylphie too. I ain't gonna spoil it potentially. In any case, it's people that really share love and have a deep connection, under extreme/special circumstances. Real relationships.
@tengenforger4944 , its not just about what is the western view of what a family should be, problem is Rudeus not holding his promise to Sylphie, if he were honest with his desire to polygamy from the begin with, it would not be a problem
He lost focus for a single second. Just one. And it cost him everything. Amazing world, 10/10 writing.
I kinda hate rudeus after this ep. Lost focus on his surroundings and against a mf hydra for a second. I guess that's how "realistically tragic" dungeon raids are done. Well done MT but I still blame him for the loss of his father. Hell, it could've been anyone in the party if they jumped in before Paul.
