This channel is causing the price of Tri-Flow and furniture polish to go up.
And Dawn Powerwash
Ha! I’ve bought all three because of this channel! Powerwash is great
I swear I had Grado headphones before I knew guru rocks them as well. :D
Unfortunately we can't buy these products in Europe!
@@jerryyoung6494I've been a Tri-Flow guy for a long time but I admit I recently bought furniture polish and Powerwash.
Thank you for being a real HONEST bicycle mechanic ,you show us how easy doing maintenance on a bicycle ourselves .
You're the Bob Ross of bicycle repair.
The greatest Bicycle Channel for non Cyclist on RUclips!
The Book his Wife published is a great read as well. Support both of them.
Thanks hey!
“Pluck the low E string” Nice guitar reference!
Naw, that's clearly the G string. It's really close to the nether regions.
because of you i bought a rarely used 1993 s Bianchi Pholcus ATB with a shimano biopace and a Exage LG 300 group, 21 . New Michelin tyres.
The bike of my youth, i never had.
Bought in from the first owner, a Lady as old as me , who still had the bill and payed 1200 Deutsche Mark for it ( a mothly income back then )
I bought it for 39 Euros. ( 40 bucks)
Thats the price of 1 tyre.
Now i am a happy bikesaver , also :-)
I’ve never thought to bend the v brake spring to get more tension. Great tip!
"Pump n Polish" shall be my motto
I really appreciate your videos and your down to earth personality!
Greetings from Denmark🇩🇰
You explained the limit screws extremely well thank you...
Whew…I feel like I’m a terrible explainer
I worked at a shop during that generation of Navigator.
I find your videos very entertaining. Keep up tje good work...all the way from South Africa.
You convinced me.
Today I bought a 2016 diamondback insight and got it in rideable condition and went out for three hours with my son.
All I need to do to finish customizing it for myself is get a shorter stem and change out the group set for something with a lower gearing (my area has a lot of steep hills)
Forgot how fun wrenching on bikes is.
That was a great little tidbit of advice on manually bending the v-brake tensioner springs. If you've not shown in a previous video, it would be great to discuss how to properly stack all those little asymmetric brake pad washers (flat on one side, convex or concave on the other) that are used to mount the pads to the v-brake arms and align the pads to the rim. I always seem to struggle with those little buggers and can never seem to properly position new pads.
Since I’ve started watching this channel: My mind starts playing a Bill Evans Trio or an Earl Klugh solo guitar music every time I put my bike on the stand. And I’ve stocked up on Tri-Flow.
I’ll have to check those guys out!!
JIS No.2 - that's the one!
Remember: "Super Thanks" go straight to his heart! - (Which he also lubricates w/ Tri-Flo.) My best maintenance "trick" is to store my bicycle in the garage or house. In the house is nicer, especially in Winter, for working on it, but the Tri-Flo gets on the carpet, and the furniture polish and tire protectant get on the linoleum, making it slick and unsafe, especially in socks.
I'm quite experienced but still struggle sometimes to shorten and put on a new chain. The same with other simple tasks. Sometimes you forget how to do repair X because you do them very rarely.
So don't underestimate the importance of mastering simple and small tasks 😮👍
Navigators are great bikes that last a life time if you care for them.
Enjoying the content and liberal use of Tri-flow and Dawn Power wash. Recently sold my COVID purchased Mountain Bike thinking I would reclaim the glory days on my youth in the 90s. All I got was a boat anchor weight and a stiff neck from riding that guy on the streets of my hood and town. Purchased a Cannondale Quick 5 from a local shop on a deep discount as it was vandalized(scratched up) while sitting outside of the shop. Unfortunately, all the good used golden era Comfort bike are going for $300-$400 here. Anyway - shocked at the lack of decent components on my bike and other at the store - all I got was a Microshift M26 2x7 and some promax brakes - wow this entry point of hybrids has been ravaged. My 90s LBS Schwinn Moad came all Shimano Alivio which was a decent starting point. Not sure where to go next with this project - maybe just ride until something breaks.
Sounds like Mr. Roger’s bike shop. When is Daniel tiger coming to visit? This is a very useful video. Good job.
I have a co worker whos gonna have me tune up his Treks after sitting for a year or so. Il be taking your advice and keeping it simple.
I love how you kept the bottle cage because it would have required another tool ;)
Just recently got my Trek Navigator 3.0 back out and found some wheels and tires to replace the ones I robbed off of it for another project on marketplace. Alex Ace 17s w Kenda kwik trax 26x1.75s for $45! I have to say I'm really starting to fall in love with it again.
thanks! clean, lube, adjust. i can do it! your videos help me out alot. subscribed
Great video as always. Now I just need to find a how to on re-seating a tubeless tire on an old mountain bike that's been hanging against a wall.
Ive done a tuneup on a similar bike like this. Had to rebuild the gearshifter a bunch of the plastic bits were broken had to figure out a way to take parts from a doner shifter. Also had issues with the seat forgot what but i knew i had to take it apart. Hate these shifters just because the amount of plastic moving parts in them. I had a shimano thumbshifter held together by electrical tape on a Motobecane nomade for years. I normally just use Philwoods grease for my cable runs not oil. And i like to put grease on the adjusting screws for the cantalievers. Not a fan of the treks from this generation Schwinns were the high point of my day. Lots of them in Chicago built like tanks good tolerances if something was wrong easier to fix.
Thanks!
Thank you Sam!
My wife says it's your fault I have 8 bikes now. I tend to agree, I only had one fixie when I started watching this channel. 😂 My most expensive bike was $80 so I guess I'm doing good though!
Initially I thought those tires looked a little crunchy on the sidewalls, but you spiffed them up well. I don’t see a lot of bikes with virtually no wear on the rims.
Tak!
With the v-brake adjustment screws I'll check how much of the screws can be tightened, and if there's room just tighten them both a bit so the levers retract nice and snappy
your deadly with that triflow
Not bicycle-related: shout out to your wife!!! As a book geek, I hafta holler about that. Also, you need to broadcast that more beyond hiding her book in the description box. 😅 Is there a way to purchase with an affiliate link that isn’t Amazon? 😬
Yup. Sometimes it’s the obvious stuff!
Thanks hey!!
BikeFarmer, how can one distinguish between a Phillips and a JIS screw without messing them up first with the wrong screwdrivers?
Just give the screwdriver a gentle twist and wiggle in the screw before you actually try to turn it. A proper fit will have no free play.
Awesome vid!!
Like your videos watch most all of them.like see you do some 3 speed bikes and curser bikes
ah v-brakes tension, the bane of our existence
oh yes, my partner adores rapid rise derailleurs. "the real way to shift" she says
I had to adapt all her 4 bikes with some XT & LX derailleurs....
i opend so many v brake bushings. there just rusted 9 out of 10. scotch brite then grease it up. there like new.
I love V-brakes but hate that they need adjustment after removing a wheel. What force in the universe causes this?!
@@ericsande5345 Idk, i went hydraulic disc brakes to dodge it XD
You win first prize for best bike mechanic.
Ah, deeply spiritual
Also does tri flow come with that long extension for the bottle or purchase separate??
I need some new lubricant ill order aome through your amazon links but for some quick grab where can tri flow be purchased in store?? Love your channel thanks a bunch
How was that possible??? You only used 3 things to check on a bike?! I see my dad use about a 1000000000000000000 tools so this surprised me. :D -Thanks
I recently picked up a 90's specialised cross trail for £50 that had brand new continental tyres put on. I tightened the quick release wheels, adjusted the brake pads, lubed and then polished with a can of GT85 pretty much how you showed in the video and only used an allen key! I only have room for my surly preamble inside the house so the specialised is my shopping bike that lives outside now! Its so comfortable. The only thing I cant do is unseize my seatpost, ive tried boiling water to expand the metal and lube spray, any tips?
I love watching basic tune ups like yours. I just had to ride a new trail on a bike I'm selling that's way too small for me. And I'm one of those guys that gets absolutely crazy from brake contamination..just a little bit less power and it's a problem. So I'm wondering how the fxxk do you brake if you have no issues with oily stuff. It's just so hard to imagine it not being a problem when ur used to just 1 drip of wd40 being enough to get my seatpost too slippery. Just water on my hydraulic disc brakes is enough..i need a youtuber to test this one and for all..and a brake pad sponsorship is gonna be helpful. Ps: i need excellent brake performance for wheelies and stoppies/endos
new bike
You know he puts Tri-flow in his hair for conditioner 🙂
I like ice cream!
"Gut und fest"
Are you and "I know a Guy" bike dude in Loveland, CO brothers...(keeding).
Um….no
Rofl "freak people out getting polish on rims"
“Gravity is your friend”: Also on downhills. Why pedal when Mother Earth will do the work for you?
No tools? Kind sir, you are using mother natures finest tools ever...the opposing thumb and forefinger. 😊
@16:34 the teeth look tore up on that middle crank.
Designed that way for better shifting
Does he only do 'toon-ups' coz he doesn't know anything more? LOL
Have you seen the cost of tri-flow? He needs to source a cheap supply for us.
I know nothing else
Don't forget to lube your tires and put air in your chain! - But what does he mean by "dusting your home"? It's probably his wife who makes him push furniture polish.
Thanks!
