  • BUILDING A HOBBIT HOUSE BUSHCRAFT AND SURVIVAL SHELTER WITH NO TOOLS
I built a hobbit house stealth bushcraft & survival shelter in the woods with no tools. By gathering twigs, sticks, and dead trees I was able to put together an A-Frame shelter and then cover it with more woodland debris including a thick layer of moss. The moss was gathered from the openings amongst the woodland trees which seemed to be the best place for it to grow. The thick layers of moss were a great and readily available option for insulating the shelter. DON’T MISS MY NEXT VIDEO (now’s your chance to hit that subscribe button)as I’ll be spending 4 days and three nights in the hobbit house in temperatures below zero, practicing my bushcraft skills, foraging, cooking, tracking, identifying useful resources, and exploring the area.

"In a hole in the ground there lived a Dustin. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a Dustin-hole, and that means comfort..."

IDEA: I take it ou have a GoPro? For some amusing scenes to go in your wonderful episodes, could you attach a GoPro to Amber's collar, as a "neck cam", and see what she gets upto on some of her missions around the forests, with and without Jacks? I think it could be quite fun! Keep the brilliant stuff coming, I've taken a lot of tips and inspiration from you and your compadre (Mike)...

I guess it takes much longer when you have to walk to a location near a tree branch, set up the camera, then walk away, then walk back to pick up the branch while on camera, then walk away with the branch, then walk back to pick up the camera to put it in a new location.
... Edit.. And it's amazing you did it all in 17 minutes.

Looked a great location and by using the natural dip you also gain from natural protection from the wind and elements. Enjoyed the sounds of nature in the woods to. Looks like a cosy place to spend a night or two as you say and liked the teaser at the end.
Enjoy your overnighter with Amber and the wilderness. Cheers Dustin.

LIKE the plan for next time. This shelter should hold up for some time if the moss was added to and renewed as needed. A few years ago, Carlisle 195 and his RAF buddy, Andy, built a similar frame, tarped it over to deal with rain and snow and then mossed it for insulation. They got a good bit of use out of it until it was burned down. Thanks for demonstrating how to make a LOT OF SHELTER with just some exceptionally fine local resources and ones hands.

There's that Good Girl ! It's always a treat to see Amber making her entrance and checkin' on things. Good shelter there Dustin, so many ways to head with this one, an internal ridge line and a survival tarp strung/staked inside, the small fire near the entrance (or wood stove), and you're warm/dry and smoothin' it. Not to mention any one of those great meals you whip up over an open flame. Mike'll be showing up with a hungry look on his mug.

Wow, what an awesome endeavor! You guys never cease to amaze me. The opening reminds me of Dave Canterbury's spider shelter. If you maybe seal off the top half of the opening with a light lattice, with the slope of that ridgepole I bet you could build a Dakota firepit right inside the entrance while trapping most of the heat inside. But the slope of that floor means that you'll have to sleep with your head pointing towards the back, which would make it really inconvenient to feed the fire. Tell me something though, what else can you do to make that shelter really waterproof? More moss, or maybe a foot or so of pine needles? It seems a shame to have such a well built shelter and not be able to use it in rainy weather

... greetings from Delaware county Pennsylvania USA, Happy New year's Dustin and of course Amber.... Was very excited to hear that notification bell ring and see that it was a bushcraft tools video.... Awesome job on the shelter sharing the little tidbits of knowledge and information this has been an awesome way to get through all of the lockdowns and a nice escape from the turmoil that is plaguing so many of our countries... I recently saw one of Mike's from TA outdoors videos and asked him if you and he were getting ready to collaborate on anything and he said you were hoping to get together and maybe do an overnighter and post the video.... I enjoy watching Mike's videos and enjoy watching your videos but I really enjoy watching you and Mike together in a video especially your first video where Amber was absolutely torturing Mike hahaha, I really got to kick out of that.... As I expressed to Mike I really enjoyed watching the Viking and roundhouse and Saxon House build you guys did and was wondering if you had any big plans similar to that for this new year 2021.... Please keep them coming.... And I agree with the comment about your videos they really have come a long way since you first started and you are doing a terrific job.... And whether you want to think it or not you really are making a difference in and touching other people's lives..... Keep it up my friend.... And if it were possible to come to the UK I so would just to hang out with you and Mike for a few nights... Be well Dustin can't wait to see the next videos
