I agree--somehow a bit of the beauty and (some mystique) is lost when the songs are translated to English.

How could you say that this is boring music or depressing music? THIS IS INCREDIBLE MUSIC!!! maybe you have no heart! go and listen to Lady gaga or something like that, but please don't put your opinion here. Asgeir is something different, is an artist truly inspired! his music puts you in a special state of mind. I'm sorry for you if you can't perceive it.

In reply to Jilouli, Let's change it from depressing to just plain BORING then. There is NO excitement in this music. I can't believe it when i see young recording artists who have wonderful facilities at their disposal. Failing to come up with anything remotely interesting or exciting. Just imagine what could be done with this equipment. Just so sad. I'm so glad i saw the 70's Progressive rock, Glam rock, Punk rock, Then into the 80's with New romantics, New wave artists. Then into the 90's with Acid House and techno music. But can you compare todays music with any of these ???? i don't think so. I struggle to find ANYTHING interesting. And as for this guy Asgeir…..He just makes me wan't to sleep.

Colin Littlewood Why are you even using a computer if everything was so much better 30 years ago?
Why are you talking about "the best" and "shit" as if they are objective terms?
Why would you give a shit about whether or not other people enjoy the work of a musician who tries to write and play and perform and sing his own original music with original instrumentation, something that not many people try anymore.
There's a shitload of cultivated characters with styling teams and anonymous songwriters who can't sing live and never use real instruments or musicians you could bitch about that are a lot less "interesting" than music such as this.
If you seriously consider glam rock and techno to be more engaging and interesting to listen to than the music and messages of modern day musicians like this guy, who by the way is only 21 years old, I suspect you're just a bitter nostalgic longing to go back in time, regardless of the music.
As if there was no shitty or boring or depressing music in the 80s... Give me a break.

Melle Beemster I stand by what i have said. And feel so sorry for you if you think that modern music has something to offer. When in fact we know it does not.

If you do not like it, you don't have to listen to it. The world is full of music. Like Dir en grey. No, today's music isn't crap just because you think it is. And Asgeir is really talented. His music has good texture and he does not have a bad high voice but a pretty high voice like Jeff Buckley.

Replying to a 3 year old comment but yeah, whatever.
What you fail to realize is that Ásgeirs music isn't supposed to be flashy, it's not supposed to be "exciting". Ásgeirs music is mellow, soothing, and full of emotion, like a warm autumn breeze. Depressing? Maybe for you, but not to me. The same can be said for Low Roar, Message to Bears, Radical Face and more. Comparing Ásgeir to prog rock is just... dumb. They're two completely different entities that fill different spaces. Ásgeir brings a certain emotion that prog/glam/punk will never be able to give. I would never be able to dream myself away listening to Focus, Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, Dead Kennedys etc. etc. It's not bad just because it's not for you.
There are so many new and amazing bands (according to your mention of genres) like Karnivool, Agent Fresco, Haken, Animals as Leaders, The Dear Hunter, Anathema, Earthside, Our Oceans, M83 and many, many more. Karnivool arguably being one of the best prog rock bands in decades. Stop being so close-minded and nostalgic, there's heaps of fantastic music out there.

Depressing music, Should come with a razor blade. I won't be buying this. A few good things have come out of Iceland. This is not one of them.

Not depressing at all! Maybe some songs are melancholic… Have you listen to all the tracks?

@@Fuar11 Well, At least its better than most of the crap that get's pushed here today. The British music scene used to lead the world. Not anymore.
6 years on from my original comments I can appreciate Asageir more than before. But I still wish young people would shock and surprise with their music.
