    It is not Cheap metals that were used in building Liberty Ships. They are built with Carbon Steels and probably engineers were not aware that these Steels would become brittle at low temperatures at that time. On analyzing the failure of these steels at low temperature, some other alloying elements were added in manufacturing the steel that would make these steels to behave tough than brittle at low temperatures.

    Hello Senja , i do not believe that the reliability depend only on the material that we use there is a lot of factors function in reliability .
