Today we have a tutorial on how to knit cables. While Carlos was at the hospital Arne knitted him a hat using cables. This one of the most popular hat patterns on our website. The cable pattern is inspired by the cable we did for the stockings for our folk costumes.
The rib is knitted cable as well, so it is an easy pattern.

I’m envisioning sitting next to Arne in some super serious event when he gets the giggles. 😂🤭😂
😂
Don’t ever stop giggling, you made me smile!
Thank you!
Arne's laughing is so contagious!!
And Carlos is so understanding and patiently.
You two make the world a bit better. Please never stop making videos for the world! 👍😇😉😍
🤣
I love how you both know exactly what the other thinks, such a funny episode.
Thank you!
Thanks for the smiles interspersed with the teaching.
❤️
I'm in the USA. It amazes me that you both so casually use our idioms. It's rare to know the idioms of another language with proficiency.
You cannot even imagine how very much I enjoy you joking with each other, and the pups. Thank-you for being 2 delightful men who brighten my day.
Thank you so much😊
"Arne The Cable Guy!" Update us on your freezer full of fish and crab please?
Lol.... another eventful session where your pets steal the show... love it!!!!
Yes, they need to get their own show😍
Your house ate the cable needle, too funny! My sofa sometimes eat the needles or hooks or my little scissors. I have to lift the cushions and then i see all the crumbs and have to vacuum the crevasses. Thanks for the tutorial!
You are welcome!
Left out front - be right back. That is the memory trick I learned for cable making. Every year I would make my students scarves for Christmas presents. My favorite pattern was the XOXO for my hugs and kisses I felt for them. This year was the first year I didn't make them. I am retired but I made my family and friends the brioche stitch scarves with chunky yarn. The knitting will never retire. I got that from my mom too! She was knitting until her passing. Her last projects were granny square afghans for my daughter and her daughter in law. She was such a perfectionist that she would not finish unless it suited her. In her eyes her joining of the squares didn't sit well with her......if she had only just left it alone they would have been completed. To us they were fine. We divided the squares. Projects for another day.
I love Arne's sweater!
Thank you!
There was a famous newscaster (I forget exactly who - it was many years ago) who told the story of bringing her kid to work. The kid was playing under the desk, while above, the news lady was having a serious broadcast or interview. No one watching television would have known about it.
But midway through, the kid started doing something awful, like carving the desk with a knife or lighting matches or something. You know how kids DO those things just when you don’t want them to.
The lady kept her eyes away and gamely finished the broadcast. She later said that she avoided making eye contact because she would then have been committed to a reprimand and follow through, etc.
I’ve always loved that story because it happens so often. I can just imagine Helmer’s startling appearance and all the confusion that ensued. You handled it beautifully and it was funny! Xxx
This was a funny story, thank you for sharing!
Arne giggling is so much fun! 😂😂😂
🤗
My mother used to knit cable patterns and it always seemed magical.
Now I know the what the little bent needle was for!
Take care 🇨🇦 ❤️
You as well Sue!
I just love it when both laugh. Made my day
💖
I love the term "the home ate it up". lol Thank you for this tutorial. xx
Thank you for watching Coral!
I can’t begin to tell you both how much joy you have brought me, especially through the lockdowns. You are certainly 2 beautiful people xx
We are so grateful that you all spend time watching us!
That was the best 8 minutes of my day so far 😁 ..fun , tension , and teaching..you guys are the best ..😉🥰..❤..🐩..
Thank you!
I've never thought of putting the stitches back on the left hand needle,I always think its very tricky to keep them on the cable needles sometimes. So I will use your handy tip, thanks arne 😊
See you both on Wednesday 💐
See you Wednesday!
Oh am I learning how to be together, laugh and respectful of the other’s ideas and feelings
😍
A knitted hat is a super present for someone in hospital, hospitals are always cold!
True, and drafty!
I’ve worked cables in projects, but always knit from the cable needle. This can be cumbersome. I’ve also done cables without an extra needle. Thank you for the idea of putting the stitches back on the right needle. Such a simple idea! Genius! I also love the idea of the cable hat with the matching cable on the brim.
Thank you Julie, happy cable knitting!
I got the pattern and made the cable hat. The rib treatment with cables both on the rib and the hat is just super! Love that hat.
We are glad to hear that you liked it!
That was too short. Wanted a longer visit:)
Cables are great
See you Wednesday!
Oooh it looks very simple, I think I'll give it a try. Thanks for the entertainment as always, great to see people so happy and at ease and giggling.
You should!
May have been a short episode but a great one as usual. So glad I watch you podcasts at home as I laugh along with you two all the time.
😂
I would love to learn how to read a cable pattern. This part always gives me great trepidation. Thank you!
Maybe we will have to do a tutorial on that!
Neat pattern Arne. God bless💕 you both and Freya and Helmer too💕💕
Thank you Joyce!
You 2are such happy people.💕
💖
I saw Helmer come down the stairs and thought he'd end up on your podcast...lol Thanks for the smile on a cool, misty morning ! I like doing cables, they're pretty easy and look so impressive. See you Wed.
see you Wednesday!
Really enjoyed that!!! Giggles, Helmer, Freya and all 💕🐩💋
💓
What a nice, short video. I laughed through almost the whole thing. Thanks for the entertainment and how to knit cables. Love the bit about Helmer.
😂
I am 68 and love all your video’s, especially the video’s where you explain how to do something. They are totally funny. I look at Arne and think, o now I see how it is done and than Carlos explains it again and it is the total opposite of what I thought. Than Arne tries to correct it very subtile and Carlos says, yes that is what I said and at the end of the video I have no idea what I should do, but I had a good laugh again. So thank you Arne and Carlos. Please keep making instructionvideo’s😂😂
😅😍
Cables are such fun to knit! I love seeing the ease of your lives together...all the laughter and rolling with the flow!
😍
I can confirm that it's a really great hat, as I knitted it this winter. Thanks A & C!
We are glad you like it!
Oh very funny guys - I have my headphones on and my husband couldn’t understand what I was laughing at - I understood what you were saying Carlos. My family are always impressed when I do cable knitting. Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday. Love your jumper Arne. 👏
See you Wednesday!
Arne, you look so wonderful in green. Just sparkling. ♡
Thank you Audrey!
You. Both make me smile. Your both so funny. Great hehe😅👍
Keep on smiling!
LOL I always love to spend time with you!
Thank you for joining us Kathy!
Love to see you laugh, it makes me happy
Thank you!
If only I knew how to knit, right now I’m teaching myself watching videos everything there’s to know about quilting.
Thanks for sharing your passion 👍❤️😊
Once you are done with quilting you can learn knitting!
Thank you ! I love to knit cable and recently finished a cable yoke style cardigan for my niece! Like the hat I’ll have to give it ago when I’ve eventually finished the socks! Hugs & xx 😘
😍
Cableneedles I have in several sizes. They are very helpful. And cableknitting is a bit luxury style for pullovers, scarfs, cardigans, socks and stockings. In my opinion.
Thank you 2, for this further video, full of laughers! 🌞🌞🌞
You are very welcome Willow!
I love your cable hat pattern . I am always on the look out for a new cable hat pattern. Every year I knit new hats for my guys. Your video tutorial was entertaining as always!
Thank you Mary Ellen!
I knit this hat. The pattern is so clever and I want to knit another! It is fun and goes fast.
💖
Thank you for that hope you are both well stay safe
We are Frances, stay safe!
You know Helmur is so furry that he could become a source of wool for your knitting lol lol......Love the hat and the demo! Thank you!
😂
Succinct with the consistent supportive message that it is simple enough to be enjoyable. How fortunate you are Carlos to receive that lovely gift to keep you company in hospital. Sweet of you, Arne! You two are loved. Thank you for the session!
Thank you for watching Fran!
“The house ate it.” 😂 😂 I love the hat, so heading over to purchase a copy. 🙋🏻♀️
Thank you for supporting us!
I just received my Lofoten yarn in the Stamsund colorway and it is beautiful! The colors are even better than I expected. Can't wait to knit these up!
😍
Thanks that made me giggle with the antics of the dogs plus the discussion on who was right about the hat description at the end ❤️ and it was almost 5 minutes in real time! 😄
Honestly you two are so funny. Thanks for the tutorial and love that hat!
😃
Enjoyable as always, thanks for the extra giggles
Thank you for giggling!
What a wonderful little episode!
Oh yes....this video was too short! I agreed with another person's comment!
See you Wednesday for our 15 minutes!
Stretch those 15 minutes out tomorrow, please!
very clever idea to cable instead if ribbing and the turn inside out. Love the pattern, Thank you both
Hugs J xx
Thank you!
My favorite cable needle was the handle of a small paintbrush. It was about 3 in/8 cm long and just grabby enough to hold stitches well.
That sounds perfect!
@@ARNECARLOS It was. My house must have eaten it, like yours ate Arne's Easter eggs.
At last I understand cabling! Tak! It is good to watch u both giggling at and with each other too. Be well 🌹
You are welocme!
Good to know you can slip the stitches back to the needle and then knit them........I have been knitting them off the cable needle and it can be a little difficult that way. Very helpful tip Arne......Thank you!!
You are welcome Linda!
Dog drama! Love is in the air ❤️
😍
just love the color of the orange red yarn
Thank you!
Ой, ребята, какие вы милые. Особенно в зелёном джемпере. Первый раз вас вижу, попробую смотреть ваш канал.
Thank you!
I love cables, after I figured out to knit one thing I automatically jumped into figuring out how to do cables. It’s surprising how easy they are.
Yes, and a lot of fun as well!
Loved seeing you knit cable without a cable needle. I have the pattern but I just ended up using the yarn on another project. Guess I will need to get more yarn!!!
Happy yarn hunting!
Beautiful cable hat!!
Thank you!
Always love to check in. I haven't knitted anything complicated but I will try this pattern. Thanks, look forward to the next video.
Have fun, see you Wednesday!
Happy Sunday.
Happy Sunday to you too Michele!
Ty for the demo on cables. I love when you two answer before the question. Dogs will be dogs. Have a great day
😃
I like this pattern and haven’t knitted cables for ages. It will make a great present for family and friends. Will check it out in the webshop.
The first time I did cables I did a very intricate pattern that formed trees when the pattern was done. I wanted to do that pattern so bad as it was just beautiful. OMG!!! Easy peezy. I love doing cables. As always lovely to see you both
Thank you Janika!
Aww my favourite wonderful guys . So lovely to see you again . Lol moose love it .

hahaha Arne. Just watching your expressions makes me laugh! You two are the best!
🤣
Great episode. Love your humour.
Thank you Donna!
There are many, many reasons why I like your show. It all comes back to how you both are so natural in front of the camera. I love the cable hat and the theme behind it and I am so glad you won the battle with the bugs. Thank you Arne and Carlos and Freja and Helmer for sharing.
Thank you for watching Christine!
Very clever rib on the hat.
Thank you Blase!
Great as always. Thanks so much
You are welcome!

You two are so funny. You always make me smile and I have to laugh . Beautiful hat, I've always loved cable. I'm going to order your felted clog slippers
Cables are fun!
Thank you, as usual, for making our hearts a bit warmer. Can't tell why today I feel it more, maybe the complicity between you two? This scene could be the incarnation of the joy of knitting and creating :)
Take care everybody! (yes, even you fellow knitter reading the comments! :) )
🤗Take care!
Thank you Arne and Carlos. I have not done any cables. That is on my bucket list and well as completing a pair of socks.
A great bucket list!
LOVE the lighthearted laughing ❤️
Thank you!
It's always fun to watch your episodes ... you two make me laugh every time!
Thank you!
Fun times!
🤣
Too funny! You guys need to get out of the house as bad as I do! Nice easy lesson, thanks, guys!
❤️true!
Unfortunately it is impossible to see the beauty of the cables on that beautiful dark hat that you are holding .
And you two just have fun together that you kind of forget that some of us your followers really want to learn to knit as well as enjoying your company😉😉.
The dog and the moose, aah priceless, but bad timing 😆😂😁
Thank you for your feedback Betty!
Thank you for being fun today. Great idea to cable inside, I'm going to have to try it. I think another project is about to be started
Have fun!
I really love knitting 🧶 cables. Will definitely get this pattern and make hats for my family.
Its a quick pattern!
Thanks for a good laugh to start my day! 😉😁🥰 And thanks for the close-up detail of how easy it is to do a basic cable! ❤️❤️❤️
You are very welcome!
What a pair! Even through the laughter and joking, I think I can do cables! Thanks for another entertaining video!
Have fun!
Cables are easy, Arne you made it look even easier 😘
Thank you!
Always love to see you both interacting; delightful. I am quite happy that I've learned to knit and pearl the Norwegian way. Never could get the hang of the continental pinky finger up method but quite content to have finally learned this easier way. Looking forward to Wednesday's Podcast and an update on the May 17 festivities.
See you Wednesday Lynn!
What are you looking at Carlos?! So funny. Thanks for the fun(ny) tutorial. xoxo
Comfort watching!
😍
Wish your Sunday shows were as long as the sit and knit ones on Wednesday! Love both!
See you Wednesday!
you guys never cease to make me laugh along with you, thanks for the cable demo and all the laughs
You are welcome!
