To answer a few questions: -This was filmed for Austrian TV, there's also a short interview that I removed as there was a problem with the audio. (I'll upload it later)-As far as I know, this is all the film from this show that remains today, but I could be wrong. This is definitely priceless in every sense of the world ~ too bad it’s a montage with excerpts as opposed to complete tracks😔 But thanks for the upload anyhow; much appreciated 🙏
Phil Collins is a frigging beast! World class drummer, world class singer, world class song writer. Thank you Phil for all the joy you’vre brought to the world since the late sixties!
Utterly enthralling and such great quality. It's just like you can dissappear back to 1978 for 15 glorious minutes. You have made thousands upon thousands of Genesis fans very happy.
Since they never released any complete live concert video from the ATTWT tour, like they did for 76, 77, and 80 onwards, this is a treasure in this quality. All the other 78 clips I've seen are fuzzy and/or dark, and they aren't pro shot.
@@kbrewski1 I don't think there's any complete live concert video for the '76 and '77 tours. The "In Concert" film from 1976 only covers about 45 minutes of a two-hour show, and there's only a couple of professionally filmed 15-20 minute clips that survive from the "Wind And Wuthering" tour in '77. In fact, I don't there's any extant *complete* live video of a Genesis show until the Lyceum show from the "Duke" tour in 1980. A real shame!
@@kbrewski1 "Duke" is the last of the Genesis albums I really like and yes, that Lyceum show was killer! I'm glad at least that one was completely filmed. I feel we're also fortunate to have gotten an hour of pro-shot footage from the "Selling England" tour from Shepperton, representing about half the show--and there's some decent 8mm film synced to audio for most of the rest. "The Lamb" remains the most grating black hole in terms of watchable film footage--just a few minutes of "In The Cage", a few minutes of "Counting Out Time" and one decent-looking 8mm sequence from Bern that has about 25 minutes on it. I've tried watching those fan recreations of the "Lamb" show that include all the available 8/16mm footage from the tour, but unfortunately most of it is very low quality.
SENSATIONAL!! I was there! This was my first live concert in my life. I was mind bowed and from that day on an absolute Genesis fan. (I was just 17) Thank you for this wonderful movie
The A.T.T.W.T. tour...brilliant songs and brilliant playing. I feel that this line-up never performed a better tour than this one(I've seen all of them) and the Drumming by Chester and Phil, individually and together, was magical. Phil's singing was so confidently on and Tony, Mike and Daryl kept the show in vivid musical color.
@@kbrewski1 My comment is slightly mis-leading; I've seen all of the "line-ups" not "tours". Regardless, I am quite familiar with the band and I am certain there are many other folks who are as well.
@imdv-ub7fb No need to be so defensive . I saw Genesis 10 times on 6 different tours. Imo, the Duke 1980 Tour had a better setlist overall and since it was a small theater Tour, it was very cool seeing them in an intimate 3000 seat old theater rather than a 15/20K arena. I didn't get to see the 78 Tour because they skipped my city unfortunately, but I've got many ROIOs. Imo, Steurmer was still learning how to play Hackett's guitar parts and was a bit rough at times in 78. I think he blended in more smoothly in 1980.
@@kbrewski1Daryl's guitar tone on the 1978 tour is abysmal, it's harsh and sharp with low gain and it sticks out like a sore thumb, it really didn't work well with the kind of textures Steve did originally. They REALLY improved on it with the years and the Duke tour was already sounding a lot better. I feel they peaked his guitar tone in 1992, but by that time he was mostly playing bass.
Priceless footage! The quality of video and audio held me spellbound for the entire 15 minutes. This is definitely peak Phil and it’s fascinating to see Darryl and Chester so early on in their Genesis live careers. I too was disappointed to miss out on the instrumental section of Cinema Show, but the closeup on Tony’s hands in the opening the Lamb more than makes up for it. Thanks so much for this wonderful gift.
Agree 10000000% Phil being heavily influenced by Billy Cobham. I've joked that he out Cobham's Cobham, though his playing is no joke. It's very tasty, and he grooves. Are you a drummer yourself? @@steve-0493
The quality alone is just stunning, it is the first time I see footage from this tour where you get a real good impression of the light show and the colours on stage. Having Lamb/Musical box in here is great too, and the only video footage of the first half of Cinema Show with Phil (the 1976 footage only has the instrumental section)
Two days before this recording I saw Genesis at the Summertime Open Air in Ulm. A wonderful memory for me. True, I have never seen such a good film and sound recording of this tour. I'm absolutely thrilled.
Yes, no pro shot official video was really shot for this tour, except Knebworth in fuzzy quality. Any other clips I've seen are lousy amateur stuff. This is also the last tour Genesis played the complete Cinema Show afaik so this is a real nice find.
Having been a hardcore Genesis tape trader in the 80's it's especially wonderful to see what some of those old clips actually originally looked like before numerous analog copies bled out the images. And to see the complete raw footage is just mind-blowing! Thank you for all your fantastic work!
Had you seen shoddy VHS dupes of this one before? I've never seen it and I've been tracking down anything I could find re Genesis since VCRs were born!
@@kbrewski1 I have it somewhere on an old PAL VHS tape. The quality is awful from what I recall and I think it's b/w from the color being totally washed out.
It’s not just down to multiple generations of copies. The original TV broadcast would never have looked this good as there simply wasn’t a way to get the detail off of the film and onto a format that could distributed or broadcast into people’s home. Even if we had HD TVs back then.
Obviously if you’re here watching this and reminiscing this is undoubtedly (in my opinion, mind you) the best “live” Genesis era that ever was 🎶!!!! This is the Phil we all love and know, he gave it 100% every night, year after year ❤️🎶
Saw this Genesis tour in ‘78 at Merriwether Post Pavillion in Maryland. My first Genesis concert! It was truely a spiritual experience. The vari-lights, spotlights, “smoke”, in conjunction with the giant hydraulic mirrors made this show totally mind blowing!! The music was magical! A night I vividly remember and will never forget!
I was at one of those shows too. 6th row left of center. Girl next to me was skeptical of my pre-show description of Genesis as the "best." After In the Cage she tapped me on the shoulder and says, "I've been to a lot concerts but have seen anything like THIS." Indeed, a great, great show. No Vari LItes. Those weren't invented until 1980, first anyone used them was Genesis on the Abacab tour.
Thanks for posting; this brings back memories. First time seeing Genesis live was this tour, July 29, Madison Sq. Garden, NYC (...Peter Gabriel joined his former band mates on stage that night for the encore: I Know What I Like. Place went crazy!) I'll echo the sentiments already expressed re Cinema Show--just as it was getting to (arguably) the best part...down it goes. That song of theirs, live, start-to-finish is tremendous; a true concert highlight. Other than that criticism--of Austrian TV?--this was terrific. Find the remaining footage!!
"Seeing people enjoying the video is the best possible reward for me" - you may not be able to see me, but I certainly enjoyed it! There's not much decent quality film or video of them from their peak years and this is the best I have seen, great job.
Brilliant!! This comes just after my favorite Genesis era which lasted for only two studio albums and one live album: post-Gabriel with Steve Hackett. Here, rhe last great proggy Genesis album, Duke, was still to come.
Probably the Best footage I have seen from the 1978 Mirror Tour. Stunning, Magical. Makes me pray the master tape of show will emerge as buried treasure.
Now, if I could go back in time it would be to the summer of 1978. Just a little bit young for me to have seen them. But this is an absolute treasure, all five of them were on fire.
Fantastic footage , thanks for uploading , been a fan since 1976 and seen them all over the world , no one could touch them when they were at their best in the 70’s , not even The Floyd and that’s saying something! If you haven’t heard them before, listen to A Trick of the tail and Wind and Wuthering which for me are their best albums ❤
Sadly, it seems this is one of the (many) performances where the rotating mylar mirrors did not work properly. At our concert earlier in the year they were magical and the lighting dramatically spectacular. So well coordinated with the music. Find the drum duet and this video would be a testament to this tour's greatness. As it is......absolutely EPIC.
For my tastes Steve Hackett's tenure comprises Genesis' best period, but this tour is still very powerful and this a great performance. Cheers to the filmmaker(s), sound engineer(s), and Genesis, and thanks for the upload.

Fantastic quality video ! Thanks. But a the same time what a frustration when Phil came up to the his drum and then it stops just when he was ready to play !! :)
Poor Daryl, so outclassed at every turn. at 08:29 in Cinema Show, he sort of tries to play Steve's delicious lead part, and Mike looks over at him like, "Dude, not even close."
Best I know he used 8x6, 10x8, 12x8, 13x9, 14x14, and 15x14 up top, and 16x16 and 18x16 Premier 'Natural Birch' concert toms on the Mirrors tour, though not positive he played 6 up top for the entire tour. I really wish there was an overhead shot, or a good reflection in the mirror to tell. His bass drum was 22x14.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.... a time machine, and for over 30 years now dreamed of seeing such clear footage like this, feeling like I missed out on all these great tours (I was 8 at the time!). I was spellbound for the entire length and crushed when it cut away from Cinema Show before we could watch Phil's drummer at his peak.
What an amazing post. Please don't ever stop posting. The quality of sound and video, unsurpassed by anything I've seen from this era. Probably the best Genesis post I've seen in some time. The edit, and once again the quality. Thank you
Wow, this is remastered so well it looks like it was filmed yesterday! Amazing! It's too bad the whole show isn't here, especially the second half of "Cinema Show". But I was mesmerized by what is here.
I saw this tour in Florida and the problematic mylar mirrors worked great. It was the only live concert I ever saw with Genesis but it was the best of my life. Phil was fantastic and in such great voice here. I wish the whole concert was available. So little of his drumming is shown. His drum duet with Chester brought down the house. It was magic.

Best '78 mirrors footage I've seen. Great tour. Thank you!
I'm loving "Romeo's" cockney accent @8:01! Phil is such a gem!
yes I noticed it too, haha
The expression! Phil becomes Rodney or Del Boy at that point!😂
Спасибо вам, что восстанавливаете такие записи!
Unbelievable. I thought they were the best when I first heard them 1978 and I still hold to that today.
I'll take the 76, 77 and 80 Tours, but this was cool stuff.
Thanks for uploading... what a treat for a Genesis obsessive such as I. Love it. 😍
Avro 65 anni tra 2 mesi ho visto genesis in live 2 volte e un gruppo legendario grazie per la video
wow, thanks for this beautiful peace of history 🥰
Arguably the Mirrors Tour was their best! Damn shame the whole thing wasn’t filmed
Quite amazing like a time machine taking us back back back
Absolutely wowable!!!!! Thanks for sharing this 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Poor Daryl, so outclassed at every turn. at 08:29 in Cinema Show, he sort of tries to play Steve's delicious lead part, and Mike looks over at him like, "Dude, not even close."
Love seeing Phil's kit from this period with the extra rack tom
Best I know he used 8x6, 10x8, 12x8, 13x9, 14x14, and 15x14 up top, and 16x16 and 18x16 Premier 'Natural Birch' concert toms on the Mirrors tour, though not positive he played 6 up top for the entire tour. I really wish there was an overhead shot, or a good reflection in the mirror to tell. His bass drum was 22x14.
Thank you so much ♥ amazing great quality, it was a wonderful tour ♥
Thank you, thank you, thank you.... a time machine, and for over 30 years now dreamed of seeing such clear footage like this, feeling like I missed out on all these great tours (I was 8 at the time!). I was spellbound for the entire length and crushed when it cut away from Cinema Show before we could watch Phil's drummer at his peak.
Ein großartiges Video. Dankeschön geht nach Austria.
Merci Thomas.
Priceless for sure ! I only wish it was the full songs !, God was Phil gorgeous back then !! My my my !!❤️❤️❤️🤘🏻👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
omg, what an improvement! I'm dying. Thank you!
Fantastique groupe !!! MAGNIFIQUE musique !!!! Je ne m en lasse pas depuis 47 ans !!! Vu en 1978 à Clermont Ferrand , INOUBLIABLE
Phil's voice takes it to another level.
@ikhnaton Bravo sir. Superb work 👍 Thanks for sharing.
Aged 21, I WAS THERE!!!

Great!
I had the pleasure also in 1982 (Munich, Germany), 1992 (Vienna) and 2007 (Linz, AUT).

If you enjoyed it so much, why no further Genesis concerts? The 80 Duke Tour was even better imo.
@@kbrewski1 Good question. Well, I moved to Colorado in the early 80s and lived a different life. But I do so wish I had heard them just one more time. I lost track of my prog.....but catching back up now. So glad we have these recordings!
Saw this tour in NYC. Peter came out and did an encore with the band. Peter and Phil both played drums. Never will forget
very good video editing here!
