"Let a person examine himself, then, and SO EAT of the bread AND DRINK of the cup." - the command is to get right and TAKE. Not avoid taking. Too many IMHO go the easy route and simply avoid. It is a false piety.

    Wow, just wow.
So many people on here “remembering their sins” and not remembering Christ during communion.
The context of 1 Corinthians was the people of Corinth fighting and over indulging in food and wine, and not even considering Christ during the gathering. It’s hard to do that in our context with a small wafer and thimble of grape juice.
Most Christians treat communion like a funeral service instead of a remembrance and celebration of the finished work of Christ.
That fact that we sin and have weakness is all the more reason to take communion.

1 Cor 11:27-31 has some missing context that clears this up completely. If you go back to vs 21, you will find out why the scripture says not to eat and drink in an unworthy manner and you will find out why it says to eat and drink while being mindful of the body. People were meeting to have communion, but some were greedy. They ate the bread, as if they didnt care if there was anything left for others and they did the same with the wine. Some were even getting drunk. I have heard this scripture being twisted for years, but it isnt some mystical thing. The chapter explains everything.

There is nothing but Grace in the heart of God towards us, therefore our hearts must be established by His Grace.
There is nothing we can do, or not do, that changes the way God feels about us.
Win win situation. This does not give us a license to sin, but if we do sin we have Jesus, an Advocate with The Father, and God’s feelings about us has not changed.

In my church, we have a time of reflection and confession before communion. Christ says to do this often. It is the Lord’s table. Only those who have been instructed and believe that Jesus is present and the bread and wine are both his body and blood, but the bread and wine are still bread and wine are welcome. It is only through Jesus death and resurrection that we are worthy to receive communion, not by anything we have done.

In the Seventh Day Adventist Church some parents, including mine, don't let their children partake in communion until they have been baptized. We don't baptize babies. From time to time my mom would let me participate before I got baptized as I got older because I had some knowledge of what was good and bad. But the reason I got baptized when I was either 11 or 12 years old was because I wanted to participate in communion rather than give my life to Christ. Sometimes I ask if I should be rebaptized because of that, but my parents and many others say I don't need to because I know better and my baptism was me being born again.

Catholics and Lutherans believe that the bread and wine become the actual body and blood of Christ. Most protestants who are not Lutheran use grape juice for the representation of the blood and not wine and also do not believe that the bread and juice become the actual body and blood of Christ.

It seems to me that Paul is dealing with a situation where many were not eating and drinking in remembrance of the Lord's death but being inconsiderate of their brothers and sisters and eating and drinking for their own enjoyment.
Having "sin" in one's life or needing ministry is the very time that one needs communion most.
Our worthiness has nothing to do with confessed or confessed sin. Our worthiness has been imputed to us by God.
I think the traditional understanding of these verses is upside down. If you have issues in your life, run to the Lord's table, not from it.

When we receive the new birth or born again experience only then are we completely clothed with the righteousness of God through the blood of Jesus Christ. The Father then looks upon us as having his own holiness. There is nothing we can sinfully say or do that will change that. His righteousness is permanently on our lives unconditionally.
Since he finds no unrighteousness in His own nature then he finds no unrighteousness in us even though we may sin.
God has forgiven us BEFORE we sin.
This is Grace and the Christian life.
Religion will say otherwise and condemn this.

Accountable Christians are supposed to partake in the Lord's supper every Sunday in remembrance of His broken body and His spilled blood that brought about His New Covenant. He instituted this Holy event with one loaf and one cup of unfermented wine. Tiny cups and tiny wafers are NOT what He and His disciples used and the Bible makes this abundantly clear.

      3) worshipping saints is wrong as only God should be worshipped.
      4) confessing to man was finished when Jesus died

      4) _confess your sins to one another_ (James)
