Just got to Kraków today. Walked to the Castle Square full of active ancient churches with Mass, Veneration, etc. But the most incredible was happening into Bazylika Mariacka w Krakówie with its ancient pipe organ played live by virtuoso Sarah Kim! The basilica floor shook like thunder on the low notes and was celestial on the high notes of Bach and Brahms. Amazing and free! Wow!

The thing about Wawel Cathedral, that makes it unique, is that it consists of visibly separate pieces. Each of these segments was made at a different time across centuries and consequently each represents a different architectural period. It started as a modest Roman-style chapel, then grew to it's Gothic height, gained renaissance domes, a baroque/romantic tower and portico. Some of the mansonry was done in the XIX century during Austrian administration. You can learn almost the entire history of European architecture just in that one place. That's because Poles were not as concerned with the purity of their monuments as, say Italians. Many Polish architects were studying in Italy, where they were taught the most recent trends and of course every ruler/bishop wanted to overshadow his precedessor with a flashier effect :)

The dragon was an issue way before 13th century, guys. The legend places it way around VIII/IX century, when Cracow was a very young settlement, cause the dragon was around when the town was ruled by duke Krak, it's first ruler.
XIII century is when Cracow was established as a proper city. It is called a location priviledge, and Cracow got it's own in 1257 by Bolesław Wstydliwy, polish duke, who ruled Lower Poland at that time.
Sorry for nitpicking, but I can't help it ;p

You are right, the legend of a Kraków dragon is much older, but much older then VIII century AD. Year 1257 only marks redesigning of the city according to the Magdeburg Law. Many historical events took place in Kraków during centuries preceding XIII century and Kraków was paralel capital of Poland along with Gniezno since the rule of king Bolesław Ist 992-1025. In 1936 archeologists discovered in Mogiła-Kraków a mint shop dated Ist century BC i.e.. meaning they made coins in Kraków 2100 years ago. The discovered gold coins showed a sea vessel on the reverse.
During X th century AD, prior to year 966 Kraków was a site of bishops Prokulf and Prokop, cultivating Christianity of Slavic rite, accepted by pope Hadrian IInd in 855 AD.-------------------------------------------------------

There is actually quite a lot exhibitions at the Wawel Hill.
    In the Castle itself:
    > Royal chambers tour (you can see the famous Arrases there)
    > Treasury/Armoury tour
    In the Cathedral:
    > the whole interior
    > the underground tombs
    > Zygmunt Bell Tower
    Separate ones:
    > the Royal gardens
    > "Lost Wawel" aka excavations of the first settlements and the first medieval castle
    > Dragon's Den
    > every single tower on the walls is also an exhibition I believe
There can be even more now but those are the ones I am aware of. A lot to explore.

So why do they have everything more expensive in the Jewish Quarter of Cracow than in the center of the city? After all it is still Poland not Israel.

There is so many vlogs praising Poland from last few years, I wonder is it real? I got some suspects that Polish Trump like goverment is paying for such propaganda. Tell me I am wrong :)
