Great to see so much life in such an "industrial" sort of location. I'm glad you showed the camera being lowered in, a bit like me panning to Melbourne's CBD from a snake or something. What's the fish that crosses from lower left to right at 3:31?
I think that strange fish was a Pygmy Leatherjacket... very cute little guys. Have got lots more footage which I'll edit and put up sometime; there's a lot more different fish down there than shown in this video.
pseudechis What are the cute striped fish called? And is that sea sponge growing in the bottom right-hand corner? Are there corals that grow in more temperate climates? The one behind the sea sponge looks like a different coloured sponge, or coral or something. Or is it an old rock or piece of metal covered in algae?
+pseudechis Great idea for a way to have a look in a "no diving/swimming" area. Did you upload that other video? Interesting you put up a few videos of Manly Dam with your well organised playlists.
thanks Sen. No I haven't uploaded the other video yet... on my to do list. Hope to do some more Manly Dam videos later this year when I'm up in Sydney; so lucky to have this urban treasure of natural bushland.
I did a video like this just today at Pier 2. Certainly was a lot more devoid of life than what we see here. See a few Kingfish, but that is about it. Not a very good video as I attached it to some fishing line so it had no stability. Might try some other methods to get a better result next time.
Why is that? Lot's of people dive in Sydney Harbour. I think a dive under the wharf would be very interesting, but you would need to be very careful to avoid the propellar wash from the ferries
As vikingtimbo said, I'm surprised there are so many fish and such diversity of fish at such a location.
