I love taking my Bible to church and I always have a separate notebook for sermon notes. I carry a crossbody tote with everything I need in it and there's just enough room for me to carry my purse in it, too. :o) If only I could carry a gallon of iced coffee in it....hahaha! This was fun to watch. I love seeing what others bring along to church with them. :o)

Thank you! What do you take to church for note taking? So, far this setup is working and I have just enough. 😊

@@Searching4Faith I like to take notes in a "lay flat" notebook and my current one is dot lined, which I prefer. My preferred pen is the Mr. Pen gel pen in black ink and I have Mildliners for highlighting and headlines, and I have transparent sticky notes and a Sharpie plus some washi tape for "just in case." LOL. I try not to bring too much with me, but I have toyed with the idea of bringing scrapbook paper a la "How to Faith a Life."

So happy to hear you bring your Bible. I think most people use a Bible app. Not terrible, but sad because they don't get the same experience when holding a physical Bible. 🥺😢

I use my digital Bible and notes app exclusively. Even at home. All my reference sources are also on my iPad. It keeps the weight of what I carry down. It is fun to see what others take to church or Bible study.
Physical or digital - whatever gets you into the Word is aces in my books.

I agree! I kind of go back and forth. I use my iPad at work a lot, but even when having an Apple Pencil, there is still something I miss about pencil and paper and still keep a paper planner with me to write my to do’s. It’s definitely a mix. I will say note taking at church was much easier when I did it all digital. 😊

@@Searching4Faith , yeah, writing on the iPad is different than paper. I do use a matte screen protector, which helps. I also have a grip on my Apple Pencil to make it easier to use. I tend to take my sermon notes in Notes, and they look kind of sloppy, but then I transfer them to my note writing app and do them more neatly. I’ve been doing this so long, it feels weird to write on paper. 🤭🤭🤭

I also use the PaperLike screen protector and have used Apple Pencil grips too. I’m doing more digital drawing these days in Procreate and have considered one of the gloves that keep your hand from touching while drawing.

Same! I have my commentary and CSB Bible Study digitally on my kindle. For me, having too many books out really overwhelms me! I just need my Bible, kindle resources, and pens/highlighters and I’m good! ❤

My biggest problem has been trying to take notes and flip through the Bible while it's all in my lap. So I bought a TV tray at a thrift store. I cleaned it real good and then took a large magic marker and put my name all over it. I took it to church and leave it in the back. When we come in my husband grabs my little table and we take it to wherever we sit. I'm thinking about getting a 2nd one to leave in the Bible study room for when I go to Ladie's Bible Study. That way I have it right there in the room instead of hunting it down in the back of the sanctuary. But at least I have a surface to place my Bible and notebook. I use a nice square makeup bag I found at a yard sale. It holds my Bible, pen holder/pens, notebook, cough drops, mints, a pad of checks and giving envelopes, bulletins, etc. It's nice looking, dressy like a nice purse. I can leave my purse locked in the car and just take in this Bible bag and my cell phone (I never go anywhere without it just in case of emergency but I turn the speaker off so as not to disturb others and leave it on vibrate). This system has worked beautifully for me for years now. I have a separate basket with a Bible, notebook, pens, etc for when I go to the Ladies Bible Study. I have another basket with all my stuff for when I go to the coffee shop and work on my personal Bible study. I take a bunch of colored pens, highlighters, washi tape, and pad of paper for tip-ins, and my tablet. This is the basket I take when we go on a trip too. All my nieces and nephews (and now grandnieces and grandnephews) know about my Bible basket and how I get up in the morning, make my coffee and work on my Bible study. So when I go visit them or we go on trips together, they are used to seeing it. They think my Bible is "fun" because I'm using different color pens and I draw little pictures and use stickers. I'm praying it gets them interested in Bible study one day. When I work on my Bible study AT HOME, it's all digital. I have physical Bibles of all kinds and some study reference books just in case the power goes out or the world comes to an end. But my heavy personal study is all digital. BTW, I hate to even bring this up but lately there has been violence in churches and our pastor has put a sign on the doors that we are allowed to "carry" if we are legal owners. So many of us do. This summer they are having active shooter training at our church and I noticed a bunch of people are going. I never thought this would be something we would have to learn and do in our church but times are changing. We had someone break into our church and they vandalized pretty extensively and then surprised the pastor Monday morning when he came in by himself! The man was a drug addict and had broken into the church across the street too. Fortunately he was not violent and the pastor was able to ask him to stop, he was calling the police. And he stopped and waited. But he had defecated and urinated all over the place, eaten out of the fridge and vomitted all over the place (despite the fact we have bathrooms) and generally made a mess, breaking a window to get in. It was then that the men started carrying. If that had been one of the women coming in for Ladie's Bible study we could be hurt. We went to the expense of a burglar alarm and we don't go in by ourselves any more.

Wow! Thank you for sharing. Yes, unfortunately I have experience with active shooter training as I am public school teacher by trade and it is always at the forefront of my mind in any public place or public gathering. Praying for you and your church. Stay safe.

I carry to church too. It’s sad but we can be a target too and I pray I will never have to use it, but I’m armed if necessary. I have a cc purse that I can lock so little ones won’t be able to get to my weapon. I’m known to have candy so they know where the good stuff is but they won’t be harmed if they try to sneak any. I just moved to another state this week so I’m looking for a new church but my last one had people that carried at all corners of the sanctuary and doors. It’s just our new reality I think.

I like to keep what i take to church as simple as possible. I have a good sized cavas tote that has pockets on front. One holds my phone and the other, my glasses cleaner and cloth. My Bible is in a case . I use a legal pad in a folio. My pen is in the Bible case. My wallet, keys, tissues, cough drops, and a pouch of small necessities go in also. I do teach gospel project once a month. The bag holds that curriculum, too. I have Diverebee gel highlighters. But they stay at home.

I use a physical Bible but I also have digital ones on my phone and I love the app Logos. I use the digital ones to check commentaries or other translations while I’m out of the house or studying in bed. I was an English Lit major in college and I just love having a book in my hand but the digitals allow me the flexibility of not having to carry my personal library everywhere I go 😊

@@Searching4Faith I just read my last reply about unpacking my books and I’m now repacking them!! Our apartment had an infestation that we weren’t aware of so we are moving again!!! Never in my life did I think at my age downsizing into an apartment would be this traumatic. Hopefully this is our last move for a long time. Our plan was to buy a house down here once we got used to the area and found a safe neighborhood but now I can’t imagine another move right now. Please pray this is the last one for a while and that I’ll be able to find a church home. I’m desperate for community and miss my family and friends in NY and NJ terribly. 😢

Weirdly it was the opposite for me. I’ve been attending a small country church and everyone had physical bibles and I was the odd one out with my iPad digital Bible. But, back in the day when we were attending a large contemporary church, most people were just on their phones looking at an app or online Bible.
