I don't know what he intended, but the song and the visuals are about fear, to me. Before seeing the video, I thought it was fear, "they smell the blood on me".
After seeing the video, I can say it evokes my nightmares from times I was most fearful.

In the beginning, about 4 seconds into the song if you listen carefully you can hear footsteps of a runner. This, I think, was probably a motive for the part where Sampha is running on track and adds up to the fear he's feeling. After that he wakes up. I'd say time is pretty relative in the song. One moment he is running away, the other he is awake in the different time dimension. Maybe Sampha is afraid of passage of time?
