  • in this video I got sent a Carly scanner and the full version app paid for by CARLY who contacted me and asked me to review this new scanner and there new app layout now as you guys know I knew about Carly for years and years prior to it even going as big as they have done based on this popular scanner for people who want all these cool mods Carly gives
    now that beeing said I have been as honest as I can in this review you guys know what I think they sent this to the wrong REVIEWER for reviewing as you guys know im a pro at what I do and use the highest tech software to name For BMW so why did they choose to send me this
    the answer is simple
    they thought I would big up there device for them to help them sell more not releasing im a repair channel I do not find all this little mods cool and what they have to offer is DISGUSTING compared to what the proper software offers they have very very limited functions in terms of coding and they expect to sell this to the public what they have done is brought the Carly universe to my channel for everyone to sell my software already on here versus this pathetic scanner
    PLEASE NOTE I would not recommend using or buying this scanner this scanner is known to cause error codes and coding errors in your system that only the professional software can get rid of please be aware I always advise using the proper stuff and staying away from these third parties who are offering you limited stuff and robbing your money for half a product I think its disgusting and should be changed
    I would also like to mention if you use the battery registration option please be careful as Carly does not register your battery at all I have been into many peoples cars where they thought there car was coded they told me they used Carly to do this and then I showed them it wasn't even coded so be aware of that

      Hello
      I want to use the carly app but have now heard how dangerous it is. As I understand it, the danger is that it is initially only designed for BMW and that for newer models there are too many possibilities that lead to programming errors and also that the system breaks.
      My question is whether I can use the Carly software on my e46 to make small changes, as I don't need a lot of settings
      btw i get the premium for free so i dont pay anythink
      and whats your opinion on BIMMERCODE?
      sorry for my bad english iam form germany

    Nice to see a good honest review, but I do have a few things on my mind...
    1) Surely the Carly was not created to be a high performing tool to provide the same features as a 2-4k diagnostics bit of kit, so surely you cant insult it on that front?
    2) In terms of small tweaks, i.e. lights flashing on locking and unlocking etc, a friend of mine just done a few bits with mine and works perfect, so I dont see the issue on that front.
    3) This is solely through reference, it hasn't caused my mate any issues through multiple cars.
    The 1 thing I do agree with is that it may come with risk, because you are obviously using a 3rd part application/process to amend OEM specs, but surely this would apply to anyone changing anything.. I am far from a tech, no more than an enthusiast in motoring. But would like to know opinions on others who have used this, as overall to me, it seems worth it for fun tweaks for stuff we never knew could be changed on our cars.

      I don't think the software is a problem, it might be, but the bigger issue is the connector imo. Trying to code the modules over what I presume is a K+DCAN interface is likely to cause errors while writing which is why I think people are bricking modules.

It is an awesome adapter and I used it for years as it’s super easy to use and it worked every time. Have you tried the one for all makes? It is fantastic

    Very happy thanks with Carly, not into coding things just basic fault code reading to find a ABS issue which it did perfect and when I needed to change battery to reset it, as regards saying they come up with things to make you buy full, this ain’t a new thing let’s face it how many times on a computer for free anti virus it comes up you need to buy full version and you are scared into doing it.

    Thanks for this ... you’ve confirmed what i already thought about this adapter... I’ve had 2 E65s over the past 2 years and both seem to get very messed up by messing about with the coding etc The first E65 I had to bring to a specialist over this and he also said bin that silly little adapter and more or less confirmed what you said as it messed up the car.. I did hold onto the adapter but it just got binned after watching this :) thanks again

    8-10 years ago everyone on the BMW forums was using Carly and happy with it. Then they got greedy! Instead of perhaps charging a modest fee for a program update, you had to buy a new $75 adapter. Then a few years later another new adapter was needed. Finally they got REAL GREEDY and you now have to pay $50+ per year to use it, plus likely a new adapter now and then. This bad attitude has opened the door for less greedy and more custom oriented competitors, some of which has been mentioned here.

    • @thetruthhurts9296
      @thetruthhurts9296 2 года назад +3

      Ted you probably have the best comment on this thread. I agree if Carly had not been so greedy it would really be an awesome tool and aid for the average BMW owner. Between the purchase of "new adapter" and "lifetime subscriptions" you have to look at these people with a little bit of a side-eye. The reality is that some of this blame goes to the BMW dealerships and Indy shops. I'm sure we have all seen outrageous prices to get a Battery coded or to get a scan of the problems (some simple) that our beloved vehicles have. You have people complaining that it's a "cookie-cutter" tool but what do you expect? There is no way that any of these "code readers" are going to be as reliable as the Stealerships fancy diagnostic tool. It wasn't meant to be. With any true mechanic tech, the biggest thing is diagnosing the problem. All Carly can do is point you in the direction. Maybe its something that can be done with the home mechanic - maybe not. But it's funny that some of these mechanics (not talking about the BMW Doctor but shops in my area) that "talk down" on these little tools prefer for you to use their "expertise" so they can upsell the repair. If we can save a little money or find out a problem or even generally what's happening it arms the owner with a little more knowledge. Personally, I have no problem with Carly - I just use it for the intention it was made for. Just a "tool" that's it. As far as the business model. Carly is its OWN worst enemy. Now they have gotten greedy we have to question them!

  • @MoHawkAnakin
    @MoHawkAnakin 3 года назад +10

    I don’t know what’s the big deal, the Carly works perfect no problems on my e90. And yes it has a ton of customization options. If people just read institutions and warnings they wouldn’t have any problems. You need to have your car running when coding or it will fuck up ur battery (better to have it hooked to a charger while coding) and also this should be common sense but only code one thing at a time or it can be to overwhelming for your ECU. I did get an error code with my battery after coding but that’s easily fixed with a long drive (or hook ur car up to a charger before coding) error went away after a good drive. Other then that nothing. The app connects fast to your phone with Bluetooth no problems.
    Only bad thing I can think of is the yearly subscription, but still that’s not even bad. like if you own a BMW and you can’t afford to make one $80 payment that’s good for a whole year, then you can’t afford to own a bmw in the first place.

    The newest Carly update has it where the battery can be coded with correct amp draw and registered into the log. I've confirmed it with NCS and ISTA through icom/MOST connection. But I must also agree with most of what you're saying, too. I find Carly's coding to be a pain in the ass at times because it's a cookie cutter style coder. It'll give you a menu of what Carly has to offer in the coding selection, but it won't help you to know if the necessary modules exist in your car or not. With ISTA-P, you'll get the full gratitude of identifying those needed modules and you can code them accordingly. It's a great safety net method compared to Carly. With Carly, if your module comes missing in your car, and you're coding it to perform, you'll get some internal error and that's in there until you code it otherwise. So yeah, best is to go through the proper coding tools/software and work from there.

    BUYER BEWARE: If you are considering using Carly, DON'T. If you know that is what you want and you are sure it will work with your vehicle, then buy it. When you do buy access to the software and it does not work, Carly WILL NOT refund regardless of how long you had the license, be it hours or days. Also be warned the license auto renews whether you want it or not.

    I'm from New Jersey, but we call it "Jersey". You've got the same Jersey spirit! Always giving it straight! Never did get that e90/92 I was looking for, but still keep up with you cuz there's a wealth of knowledge on here if I ever do get into one or another chassis someday. 1st time I saw youtubers talking about this thing.....I mean, other than keeping it in the glovebox for a quick emergency roadside scan (which would be ok if it were $40), I thought this thing is just a dangerous toy.

    • @thetruthhurts9296
      @thetruthhurts9296 2 года назад

      I'm from Linden New Jersey. There is nothing dangerous about it if you keep it in the proper perspective dude. I've used it for almost 2 years and overall It has saved me from having to deal with shady indy shops considering the nearest BMW shop is 100 miles from where I live and even then I don't trust most stealerships. As far a quick emergency roadscan scan - if it can save you from having to call a tow truck then it's still worth the cost. Its not meant to be a "personal mechanic" - plug , fix and all your problems are solved. I have used it to code my battery, I have used it to get my X5 out of limp mode (saving the cost of a tow truck), and later found out that I had a dirty mass flow sensor. Cleaned it myself and went on my merry way. It's only tool thats it. Only if you are looking it use it to make serious modifications and change the integrity of the vehicle then you are a moron.

What would a dealership charge to code that as opposed to buying Carly? You seem to be reviewing a competitor's product. I understand the coding is not as sound as using an actual laptop program. I only want to code the angel eyes, surely that wouldn't fry my module.

    BMW Doctor thank you for the information. Can you please post the link here for the software you recommend. I currently use the OTC Genisys Touch scanner tool. It's a wonderful scanner been using the same one since 2013. it has limited coding ability by design even its a great code scanner and can perform loads of test. OTC just seems to stay far from coding... Please post a link where I can buy

    Dean how you be able to code in things on your CCC if is protected by MOST I have used NCSExpert to add the acoustic when you close the car but it's shown the error afterwards through the ncs then was in CCC but gone after couple days.
    Carly leaving coding error that's for sure, because of MOST.
    Have you done any movies with adding anything to CCC?
    Thanks in advance

    Do you have to pay for individual things like coding and buy credits for that stuff like with OBDeleven? OBDeleven does seem like a very nice little device but I would rather pay once. I would get VCDS but that is somewhat much to spend for someone like me. I don't mind paying to do a couple things but I don't want that to be a constant thing for something that ought to be a one time expense.

  • @RJTracing

    So, Carly got me with their *coding* propaganda. I bought into it from day 1, I been thru 2 scanners because they just stop communicating to my cars. Back in the day when coding features I used to want to pulled my hair out, the connection was so slow. Made me want to throw my phone against the wall. Now days is better, like they got their shit together.
    I agree with the Dr. It's not a proper coding tool, I had to use INPA to code my injectors in my E90... so that propaganda is B.S.
    This is an entry level, OBD2 dongle. *END OF STORY*. The target market should be a human that wants to try to repair their BMW, and want to feel cool about making their mirrors fold when locking the car.
    For someone like me that put an M3 body kit in my sister's E90 328 and I need to code out the PDS, I need the real tools NSCEXPERT. For this CARLY is as good as taking a dump on your couch, you'll be pissed at what you should've not done.
    The PROS of CARLY, if you go on a trip, or just keep it in the glove compartment, or if you want to code "baby stuff". That is it, it is not all they make it to be. Oh I've been lucky, and the guys that I know the use CARLY, they have not bricked any module yet.
