  • The light rail running through the urban portion of Baltimore, while the surroundings need some love these trains do look stranger compared to other light rail systems across the United States. What do you think?

I have to say.. the new renovation after YEARS is better. Especially the way it looks, how it looks, and what it looks like. The new motor sound is beautiful. I don think they look ugly, they look like a brilliant transmit. I may be 11 years old but I love living in Baltimore even though it is kinda messed up.

Grew up around these from my young years, all the way up to current adult, of my whole life being from Baltimore. Definitely going to miss these dearly while working for a railroad myself within the deeper country of upstate New York.

Yes! Baltimore needs more light rail. I will never forgive Larry Hogan for nixing the Red Line. We should tear down the JFX and fill in the RT 40 trench, and fill it with an at grade light rail/subway hybrid similar to the Boston T. It would absolutely transform the city and connect a lot of historically underserved communities with job centers. Build more trains!

They are kinda bulky and square-y, but there's something about it that makes me really like them. Despite being light rail, they somewhat resemble a metro-style train car so they feel "grown-up" to me, which idk makes me respect them a lot.

My first time riding the light rail. I didn’t understand how the doors worked. I’m so used to Metrorails and Buses and how the doors automatically open. I missed my stop because of this. I realized that I should’ve just pressed a button

When the light rail opened Howard St. was the retail center of downtown Baltimore with two big department stores: Hecht's and Hutzler's. Now it is a boarded up no man's land.

Similar phenomenon happened in Buffalo. Most shopping centers are in the suburbs now, because frankly there are too many homeless and druggies in the city center and people don't want to deal with that

I've grown up not far from this system so I'm likely biased, but I feel they have an odd charm to them. I like them.

As a person who frequents Baltimore I got two things to say:
1: I’m shocked that you didn’t get many rebuilds considering when this was recorded and the fact that rebuilds own the system at that point
2: Their design is too similar to the Norristown, PA high speed line cars for me to say they’re ugly or nice - I’m kinda just used to the look by now. Alt bought I do like the rebuilds with the light bars and the more visible signs.

is the constant bell ringing a FRA requirement or some other freight-derived regulation that's been applied to Light Rail here?

I really like the boxy design. In my opinion many of the newer rounded designs are very ugly - they end up not looking cool and streamlined, instead ending up looking obese and slow. The wraps on these are pretty crowded and ugly looking though.

I wouldn't call the vehicles themselves ugly but the livery could be better. The paint schemes range from bland to overly busy.

In general all American Light rail vehicles tend not to be very pleasant to look at. Quite boxy externally. German units are similarly not very attractive. The French Citadis is a really nice shape. As are some of the newer Polish vehicles like the PESA Swing 120 series. Smooth flowing lines...However, It can be very subjective and can be put down to one's "own opinion".

They’re massive and boxy but I don’t think they’re any uglier than any other boxy American LRV. I do think however that their original white with blue stripe was their only decent color scheme. The weird wraps they’ve tried giving them have done them no justice.

I personally quite like the newest Link paint scheme
You can see it a bit I’m the rear car on the right hand train at 1:03
The Md Flag wrap at 3:45 it cool too imo

Well why the hell are you even in Baltimore ?? Worry about your own trains and transportation if these trains are ugly let them be ugly. The trains u have is probably a lot uglier then Baltimore trains so why even worry about it ??

Very ugly, boxy cars. Although the newest batch of LRV's on Boston's Green Line are uglier.
