Kongu's appearance kinda makes sense to me. First of all, he's toa of air so his elemental powers probably wouldn't work very well at the bottom of the sea, which he compensates with extra firepower. Kongu has always been a long range fighter, Inika Kongu had two ranged weapons as well since his main weapon was a crossbow. Toas of air have usually been slender and agile but he's really far from his element now, so he's probably not as nimble as he used to be. His stubby build may be an adaptation to water pressure. His color scheme turning grey might also reflect how out of place he is undersea, it's like his colors kind of suffocate in the airless environment. And finally, a large air tank for the toa of air.
Lol. Kongu always seems to get screwed, doesn’t he? As an Inika, he got the mask of telepathy, which was very hard to control, while Nuparu got the mask of flight. Afterwards, he gets trapped in a place where his powers don’t work at all, with an unpredictable mask of summoning to boot. Now that the Toa Mahri are back on land, he’s stuck in a clunky form with only two Cordak blasters and no air weapons.
@@kadennguyen5405 Even just in the realm of color scheme, I often feel like Kongu and Hewkii fluctuated the most between each incarnation of themselves. Though I never had him as a Tohunga/McToran which was teal and lime, Kongu was my third Inika and fourth Mahri overall. I'm also not sure what the explanation for changing from a melded color to a solid color was though.
You're not alone. I always loved Mahri Kongu. His mask and air tank look awesome, and even though it might've been better giving him his own unique weapon, I always thought that him dual-wielding cordak blasters was badass
I do enjoy Kongu Mahri. The biggest flaw of the set is that it's a poor representation of the character of Kongu. His short and heavy look combined with his large brute-force weaponry couldn't look less like a gracious Toa of air even if it tried. Regardless, His short, bulky and wide stature combined with his heavy weaponry makes him look like a human tank, which is a very unique look for the usually tall and slender Toa sets. He's certainly unique and worth his spot on the team.
Last time I checked, the Cordak blasters aren't part of Kongu's arms. Complaining about the red is like complaining that a gun isn't the same colour as the skin of the human holding it.
True. But you could argue that a character's weapon should compliment the color schem. Especially if the weapon isn't some thing we already have in real world like a m9 pistol or something.
People are complaining about him having nothing fitting in for air for him. The Mahri were fucking underwater! You expect him to do anything? Him, Hewkii, and Jaller really got it bad when they became Mahri, so they gave him 2 cordaks
I never minded the dual cordak blasters cuz even tho I never bought him as a set, whenever I would play with my others within story mode, whenever one of my toa ran out of bullets I'd use the blasters as giant clubs to bludgeon the barraki 😂💀
I quite liked the mahri because of how creative each design was. When you look at other toa teams thdy all look very uniform which isn't a bad thing per se, but seeing a team where each individual was very distinct was refreshing.
I think Kongu's 2-blasters is funny and reflects his personality, much like how he swapped out Karzahni's original mask for the Suletu the group found with Takanuva. Though I will admit I was confused as a kid when I first saw Kongu's design. Fun fact - back in 2007, Kongu was the ONLY Toa Mahri I could find anywhere. The only place that had any of the others was the local Lego store
"Taking away any unique or special about them." I smell butthurt, Eljay. I think you're mad that these sets are objectively better than Inika. Get more mad.
Wait, did you just say at 1:18 that the MoL took everything unique and special about them? Did you forget that the Mahri are the most unique set and they stand out one from abother, as on both colour scheme and design wise?
He's talking about the lore. The Mahri are just regular Toa that can breathe underwater, meanwhile the Inika has special organic masks and lightning powers
I don't think the red on the cordak launchers is an issue. Believe it or not most characters don't just have 2 colors. at best it makes them look basic and unfinished at worst. Frequently, designers will give their characters 4-5 colors, with one or two primarys and the rest being highlights to make their special features pop out. The launchers and ammo are 100% meant to be special, so giving them a color that pops out is just good design. In addition it's not like they're a part of his body, it makes sense they have their own colors. (Plus can you imagine trying to find those missiles under the couch had they been dark green? making them bright red makes getting them back much easier)
Compared to Jaller Mahri, this set was terrible. I liked it more than Hewki, but it still was too goofy-looking to feel like an actual Toa of Air. Also, the fact that he had no original weapon made him quite boring in my opinion.
The bodies of him and Nuparu should be switched. Toa of air should be tall and skinny and toa of earth should be short and husky. Also his voice in legends of metru nui does not match his body type at all. Also need I mention that he is the hardest toa to pass in the command the mahri game.
Dakota Conn Plus having Nuparu deciding to arm himself with two Cordak blasters makes sense since he's an engineer and all. He even ended up reverse-engineering the blasters for use by other Toa in the story!
Meh, I personally never had this much issue with Kongu Mahri. Yes, he lacks any unique weapons (So they gave him two Kodak blasters to compensate) and is a bit short, but the actual head design is quite good: I especially like the mask which is much more reminiscent of his original Miru from his Mc'toran form, particularly compared to the one that Inika Kongu ended up with. Yes, even despite the beard. I think I bought Kongu but I can't quite remember for sure. I definitely bought all the other Mahri except for Hewkii. (Who looked the most ridiculous IMO)
This is the first time I've seen a Toa Mahri up close, and I must say I really enjoy how much more stylistically consistent they look compared with pre-'06 Bionicle sets unlike the tall, skinny and oddly organic-looking masks wearing Toa Inika.
I personally bought Mahri Kongu just for the new mask. Kind of wish they gave every one of the Toa Mahri that "visor" piece that Hahli, Nuparu and our hero Matoro have. Also, Hahli's Faxon just looks bad without the visor, doesn't it, Eljay?
I think this set is awesome. I ordered one of the sets from this theme off of eBay and the Cordak blaster was almost broken, sadly. Still works a little bit but you need to push much harder than usual and 2 of them practically never shoot...
Huh, didn't his Inika form have a Zamor launcher and a laser crossbow? Maybe it isn't so much of a misfit for him to have twin blasters in this incarnation.
I wouldn't say the blaster works well AT ALL. I have the somewhat controversial opinion that the cordak blaster sucked. I honestly preferred the squid launcher because I could reliably fire it after practicing a bit.
As I recall, going underwater with a Cordak made them fire every time at a really slight touch. The missiles wouldn't go very far before surfacing, though.
Funny thing, the thing behind his head for me broke and the pin piece that was connecting it broke in half and since that happened half of that pin piece still remains inside the head.
when they were mahri wasn't hahli the leader? cuz in the comic they said multiple times that her experience and skill in underwater fighting makes her the leader
He's a bit ugly, it's a shame we didn't get a tall, slender toa weilding the bow he did as an inika, or even something completely new like thin katanas like the 2015 lewa wields or even something completely new. I do get a bit of a video game class character from the marhi, as if each of them are class based fps characters. Matoro is a cqc brawler with the claw, Kongo is the heavy weapons guy, nuparu is support and Hali is the fast moving scout. Has anyone else thought of it like that, or am I simply mad?
+Yourgs Vazouras I think of them more as RPG characters. Hewkii is like a dragoon/lancer, Hahli is the ranger/scout Nuparu is a weird sort of support/fighter class (the shield would indicate he's front line, but he only has a ranged weapon, so he's a bit odd) Kongu is the archer Jaller is a fighter/druid (he's got a crab, so druid, but also a sword, so fighter) Matoro is a rogue (maybe)
I think giving toa of air guns makes more sens than axes\kitanas, since the projectiles go through the air. this is also why I apreceated them giving Kongu inika a bow.

oddly enough, despite how much i detest the kordak blaster, i actually really like the way kongu looks. its just something about the bulk of him with the two giant guns seems pretty cool to me.
Physics wise, walking foward would be difficult because he's flat and wide. However, of he were swimming foward, the aerodynamics of the shape (flat, wide) would cut through and allow for faster movement
They don't have much to talk about. So the matoran sets don't really matter. They had nothing unique to compare, and the only weapon the had was a bamboo disc.

I kinda feel like kongu marhi considering the toa marhi came out in 2007 (halo 3) I feel like he might of gotten duel welding from the chief himself. On another note I think they should of switched nuparu and kongus sets you know give kongu nuparus set with a green color scheme and vice versa with nuparu.
Cordak works well? I have never been able to get them working well. This, combined with their bulkiness and the fact they are a proprietary piece, makes them my least favorite launcher.
Nice review and Toa Marhi Kongu always reminded me of Bulkhead from transformers. And last but not least I think Toa Marhi Kongu looks pretty neat and flipping awesome figure. :)
I must admit I like the Toa Mahri above the Toa Inika. The rubbery masks of the Toa Inika just didn't work for me, and I like his mask design and the idea of him having 2 blasters (but his rahkshi feet aren't the best choice).
I think that the cordak blasters where a bit poor because its basic design and lack of uniqueness. I would have loved some custom built parts added to it and a bit more uniqueness in the overall design. For example giving kongu a more slick and curvy look with different paint jobs
idk about anyone else but I personally enjoyed seeing a toa with just ranged weapons, I feel like it gives variety to what a toa could potentially wield instead of just sticking with the standard "element name + melee weapon name"... that sort of thing was getting kindof old after the Metru Nui arcs, I think.
I love love the summer 2007 line. The only set I don't like is pidrak. Also the beginning of the video was hilarious to me because my dog ate my tala doc
In Farshtey's story they find they can't breathe air when they become the Mahri. But why is the build of the Mahri look like they're wearing scuba gear? Their masks, the tubes, the air tank on Kongu's head, what's up with that?
Kongu's appearance kinda makes sense to me. First of all, he's toa of air so his elemental powers probably wouldn't work very well at the bottom of the sea, which he compensates with extra firepower. Kongu has always been a long range fighter, Inika Kongu had two ranged weapons as well since his main weapon was a crossbow. For people who are too lazy to read the whole thing: Kongu is fat because of water pressure
Pretty nice

Best quote in the whole book.
toa ignika kongu didn't have any melee weapons either, he had a blaster and a crossbow.
Exactly.
I think he meant custome weapons
True, but the crossbow definitely could also function as a sword
I always thought Kongu was a range combatant not a swords men which is probably why he ditched it in the story
@@RaptorofRex07 His original mahri weapon in the books was is a caveman weapon. Good luck swing a super heavy weapon like that underwater.
Didn't Kongu toss out his toa-tool, because he WANTED two multi-barreled underwater rocket launchers? Seems like a pretty relateable character to me.
In the books his crossbow was a club like a rock or earth toa weapon. Good luck trying to swing a superdense steel caveman weapon underwater.

Needs a midak sky blaster on his left hand though
From my experience, water would make the missiles fire farther than with just air. It makes a mess, but improves performance.

The axle on my Kongu torso broke, why Lego why?
I must admit I like the Toa Mahri above the Toa Inika. The rubbery masks of the Toa Inika just didn't work for me, and I like his mask design and the idea of him having 2 blasters (but his rahkshi feet aren't the best choice).
Kongu looks fine. He blends in well with water vegetation, which is basically like an underwater jungle.
One thing I’ll never get is why they made him somewhat hunched.
Is this set worth 20 bucks
I think that the cordak blasters where a bit poor because its basic design and lack of uniqueness. I would have loved some custom built parts added to it and a bit more uniqueness in the overall design. For example giving kongu a more slick and curvy look with different paint jobs
***** I really liked the machine gun vibe though.
For me, the Cordak launchers couldn't do jack crap!
Minigun101 They were pretty awesome, but kind of repetitive
Kongu was my favorite of 2007! Hey, he tossed away a melee weapon for a second Cordac Blaster!
Nobody:
Green Bionicle Chuck Norris:
Kongu's main weapon last time was a crossbow, right? Why do people have a problem with his dual wielding launchers?
idk about anyone else but I personally enjoyed seeing a toa with just ranged weapons, I feel like it gives variety to what a toa could potentially wield instead of just sticking with the standard "element name + melee weapon name"... that sort of thing was getting kindof old after the Metru Nui arcs, I think.
Sorry about that.
Your recaps are awesome!
Had the McDonald’s one it was pretty dope as a kid
I love love the summer 2007 line. The only set I don't like is pidrak. Also the beginning of the video was hilarious to me because my dog ate my tala doc
In Farshtey's story they find they can't breathe air when they become the Mahri. But why is the build of the Mahri look like they're wearing scuba gear? Their masks, the tubes, the air tank on Kongu's head, what's up with that?
Kongu and all the Toa Mahri/ Inika's lineage actually started in 2001 with the Tohunga (Mctoran) from McDonalds.
Swanky Not all of them, but some.
