In today's video I want to re-create a video from last year that you guys really, really like. This is a One Stroke Painting with a dagger brush tutorial. This is a step by step tutorial.
This video is in real time and shows exactly how to load a brush with two colors for maximum effectiveness in technique.

I was looking for a video on painting with a dagger brush. I saw this and really appreciated how you showed the details on using this brush along with the liner brush. I am just beginning to try my hand at watercolor and love what some of the artists can do using this type of brush. I will try your technique. You have such control of the brush. I know it will take some time for me to get comfortable painting with this brush.

The paint she's using comes in a liquid form. No need to worry about water control. Great for beginners. A bit expensive for a basic set.

this is beautiful. i live in new zealand and am having problems getting a dagger brush so am going to try my angle brush lol. i will either succeed or waste my precious paper haha
oh yeah, I have a hard time finding a good Dagger brush as well, I was lucky I found this one when I was in Japan - Holbein has amazing brushes - But definitely give it a try with the angle brush, but definitely try on cheap paper first while you get the hang of it! :)

I am definitely putting a dagger brush on my wishlist. What’s your opinion on Ecoline vs tube or pan watercolors?
Please do Michelle! :) My favorites will have to be tubes, pans tend to ruin my brushes (unless they are full pans - the long ones) and Ecolines last because there is definitely a learning curve to them and they are super saturated. The Holbein brush is impossible to purchase unless you want to chance AliExpress ( which is a rabbit hole to end all rabbit holes...) or spend 50$ (haha) on Ebay. Anyway.. the differences between the Holbein and Silver brush is stiffness. Depending upon a person's painting abilities they may find one or the other too difficult to use. But yeah.. very, very pretty leaves.

I remember watching this when you created the first one. Such smooth brush technique. Patience is definitely better than speed in this case. You inspire me to play with my ignored and unused dagger. I also have a Robert Simmons Triple Loader. Have you developed any techniques for one of those?

@@LoveLetterstoMilo I just did a little more research. Silver brush has a similar shaped brush they call a triangle brush.
The best technique to paint leaves ever! I looked at the brush you posted from Amazon and have a question: which size of the da Vinci brush would you get for medium sized leaves? 10? 8?

I have a Princeton Neptune dagger 1/4” and it does not hold any shape so it is really hard to do this. Does the black silver dagger keep its shape?
I actually do not have any other Dagger Brush than this Japanese-brand one - I would think that the Black Silver would hold a ton of water since I have other brushes of their brand and I LOVE them
Have you ever tried bee paper? (The brand lol) if you haven’t do you think you could compare it to other brands?

Hi, I am left handed and struggling to get the brush to create the movement. can you show how to use it left handed?
Oh dear, I am afraid I cannot show how to do it left handed as I do not use that had for painting or writing. It would be quite the struggle. But hey! that is actually a great idea and I might just give it a try and upload later :D :D

As I drag to the right, I keep getting too much of the lower path of the belly. leaves are screwed up!

Funny thing is that I used the same brush opposite 😂
So much more control you have when you have the tip on outside line
oh my gosh, yes, I have to constantly keep reminding myself that the inside angle of the brush NEEDS to be on the inside and the Tip on the outside - Once i'm in the flow of things, it gets easier to remember, but yes, that is important to get the leaves just right :)
