Putting the paint on thick down there for protection is a good thing. Runs are not a big deal; this is not about aesthetics but about protecting the metal. Great and meticulous job, Steve!
Nice handy bushing removal tool. Plus, most of us probably have the needed parts in our shops already. Proves the old adage "Necessity is the Mother of Invention". A cheap application.
Thanks for this interesting videos of the Z3 project. You bring it very clearly explained I will plan to do the same for my BMW Z3 roadster of 2002. It will be so satisfied when the rear suspension is back in a good shape. Thank you very much for the tips and tricks.
Nice job looking for part 3 If I may give a hint. When you weld the torch gives co2, when you stop the torch still gives co2, that's to prevent oxigen getting to your weld. My surgerstion is to hold the torch a view more seconds wile the metal is still red hot. That protects againsted oxigen getting on your fresh weld. Good you saw the hole in the arm. Nice thick overkill plate used to improve strength.
Hi Steve, great job! What is the name of the "special paint" to protect the areas under the welding? And one more tip - when you stop to weld then you can notice that the gas continues to go for a second or two. There is a reason for this - you should keep the torch in place during this time. The gas protects the welds against oxidation when they are still "red".
Sorry for the late reply , as i was away for work. But thanks for the comments. That is a welders paint... I will need to check the brand and come back
Do you exchange the brake lines for steel braided brake lines because of a better braking point? When it comes to the brake pads, I can recommend Brembo to you, they work great. Good video :))
Whats up with the thumb down, It seems that this happens by one person. Who most likely wants to see Old Rusty .... Please let me know, because without knowing the reason , I can't change things. Thanks.. Of course I could track who..... But I will not..... :)
Gday mate... Im having trouble my self... My car keeps killing alternators.. Its a Mitsubish pajero 3.5 litre 4x4 automatic...brand new battery and i replaced the alternator once again with a good working second hand part and it killed it...all of my earths are good.. Im beat
What is the voltage when it was charging ? Are the diodes/ rectifier blown when it fails ? This can happen when the alternator runs open, so the +12V coming from the alternator to the Battery might be missing, so you run open and that can cause overvoltage and kill the regulatory circuit inside the alternator. Always check both Ground and the return feed from the alternator to the battery. I suspect that this is your problem.
@@D3Sshooter ive had it confirmed all my ground points are all ok and its confirmed my battery is pushing 11.85 volts not running Running its pushing only 6.75 volts,,,
@@D3Sshooter i had an auto electrician pop over today and we went over everything... Brand new battery and brand new alternator tomorow and we are gonna go over it again.. All fuses are fine/relays are good.. Its got us beat thats for sure
Geen beter amusement denkbaar om mijn dag mee te beginnen op de 21ste juli. Sebiet mijn atelier een beetje uitmesten... hoog tijd om zelf ook wat te beginnen kuntselen.
Well Steve, really nice video, and content quality again, as usual. Though I don't like the Z3 project too much... Maybe because I don't like BMW at all (loved your comment on the lifespan in one of the prev. videos). And I do subscribed for old rusty back in the day, but since than I enjoyed all of your other content, and can't wait to see more of the tower room and the Peugeot and so on! But this one is coming together nicely too! Keep them coming!
The inert gas is still running and you move the torch away from the weld. Thats not good, keep the torch in place for a few seconds so oxigene can not get to the weld.
Excellent videos but... why do you keep calling Bushings, "bushes"? bushes or shrubs you cut with clippers when they grow green too big, like hedges. Bushings are mechanical rubber inserts. :) just an observation. lol
That's funny...MOT complains about surface rust ( what vehicle doesn't have corrosion if actually used ?? ) but misses actual rust damage!! Sounds like there was alot of stuff hiding the rot hole?? Inspectors are human We all miss stuff others notice... But they are too picky if surface rust is stopping you from operating it on roads!! I agree with trying to make vehicles safe...but sometimes they get over bearing and ridiculous with their reports...😄
Also following in your step of rebuilding my own Z3 thank you for all your videos it really helped me a lot
I am no mechanic but this is very interesting. Thank you for sharing.

Informatieve video! Welk medium gebruik je om te stralen? Werkte heel goed zo te zien
Netjes hoor beter nu aanpakken dan later 👍
I think I would have cut out the rusted part out and welded in a new piece of C channel in. Replace the whole part.
Great videos. Thank you! What is it your using to blast those parts? Works so well… and fast!
I use garnet 360 with the IBIX H2O blaster

Steve..there is always one person who is either a troll, or a nutjob..your content is what you chose..do not give credence to them...
Dont worry about it mate.... Haters are gonna hate these days
People do this because they're jealous of your accomplishments. Don't give them the time of day.
You have excellent content and your vids are top notch. Some will thumb down anything no matter what you do. Keep on with what you're doing.
Don't worry about him. 👍
What paint are you using Steve? It leaves a very good finish and I need to do the same to my axles
This is metal paint , used for metal beams in construction (buildings etc...)
Isn’t the extra metal plate going to increase unsprung weight?
Hallo, welke verf gebruikt u op de draagarmen?
Rust Olium, Het soort dat je gebruikt op stalen balken in de bouw...

Sounded like the wire speed was a bit off……..
Yes you are right, I have that bad habbit and should pay attention to it... Good remark, Thank you for the comments
@@notajp , It was initially in auto mode and then you need to set the thickness of the steel and that was off

it's a bit harsh, I know in the US they call them bushings but certainly here in the UK and other European countries we call them bushes...
