- Our “Why I Vote” campaign gives artists a chance to share personal opinions on the key issues shaping the 2016 Presidential Election. Along the way, they encourage young people, a traditionally under-represented demographic at the polls, to participate in the political process that impacts us all. From Kesha to T.I. to American Authors, each episode focuses on a particular subject, including immigration, LGBTQ rights, mass incarceration, and education opportunities. We’re hoping to galvanize first-time voters interested in shaping their own future.
In our series finale, JoJo tells a personal story about her father who suffered from, and eventually lost his battle with, drug addiction. The abuse of opioids such as heroin, morphine, and prescription pain relievers is a critical issue in America today. The singer explains why preventative programs are imperative - addicts deserve the treatment they need to recover. “I really believe you can wake up and change your life if you have the right resources,” she says.
Previous episodes of “Why I Vote” featured Vic Mensa, T.I. Kesha, American Authors, Becky G., John Legend and Andra Day and Common.
Vevo will continue the discussion on Friday, November 4th by hosting a Facebook live event “Why I Vote: Live” at 6:30 ET/3:30 PT to discuss the many issues at hand and the upcoming election. Artists expected to be offering their insights and opinions include T.I., Andra Day, Vic Mensa, and Bethany Cosentino. Rock The Vote’s Jesse Moore will lead the discussion along with Vevo host Julz Goddard.

I'm so glad someone is finally speaking out on dealing with addiction, and the root of the pain, rather than throwing addicts in jail! It's a waste of the addicts time, and tax payers money when most people who go to jail will most likely find drugs easier and quicker. That doesn't help any issue. Rehabilitation is what benefits everyone in the long run. Every country should be opening more rehabs instead of more jails. We need to get to the route of the issue rather than throwing troubled minds away for a while, for them to come out and overdose or re-commit crime. As someone who suffers from addiction, and has basically grew up with a full family of addicts, I can tell you we addicts are not bad people. We're just lost. But with the right help and patience we can be found. ❤ To anyone suffering; Stay strong, and take it day by day ❤

I agree with JoJo 100% because I keep seeing or hearing about addiction in my family and it's epic when we get a victory and a sinking feeling when we get a loss. So please, if you or someone you know is addicted to alcohol or drugs please get help asap and please vote.
Yikes, that is one powerful personal story to make big change on such a sad issue. Opioid Epidemic is a story of Neglection both literaly and in the public knowlege. The scariest part is the gateway drugs are legal prescriptions. Bravo Jojo

Wow what happened to her dad and family, that's just what happened to mine, however he is still alive. It made me realise that you only have one Dad. I am still not sure I forgive him but I am really glad JoJo shared her story. I feel a little less alone now.

Yes, her old record company wouldn't let her realease an album for almost a decade and was stuck in her contract, she just got out recently and just released a new album called mad love.
