Saludos super feliz de encontrar este canal, estoy proxima a tomar el curso de Medical Interpreter ❤
Ive got to say, a year ago i started as an interpreter and was quite a bit nervous since it was a new experience, especially when you have to be precise with what you say since most of my calls are medical calls, so it's someone else's health in the line, but a year later and not only has it been a really good experience, but the progress one makes over time is really astounding, when i first used these videos i could somewhat keep up with the pacing, and struggled with the long sentences, and honestly now at times i get even longer ones in real calls and do them without much of an issue.
If you are new in this line of work, practice makes perfect, and early struggles will go away the longer you do it, especially if you put the effort to improve.
Bravo! You got it! Some people want to be able to nail interpretation and note-taking from the first video without taking a course. They of course get frustrated and quit. These are definitely skills to practice to learn.
What is a good company to work as an interpret?
I needed to read this comment! Thank you!!! You encourage me! Literally, today I had my first interview for this position and I will be starting training this next week. Reading this helped me not to give up!
Thank you for sharing. I'm a begginer, so this is my case.
Holy hell, i never knew doctors could speak this long, sometimes i feel like interpretation practicing videos can kinda be crushing because in reality the convo would be broken up, or at least i would make it my job to tell the doctor to stop talking so i can interpret, this was super hard on me, kinda got my confidence down lol
That is a big difference between a real-life situation. In a real-life situation, you can ask for shorter segments that you can handle. If you don’t control the situation, you will get this or even longer segments. It depends on the interpreter; some will ask for shorter segments, some might train harder to recall longer segments, some might already do it on the first try. Everyone is different and we all have different interpreting styles. Unfortunately, this is a limitation of a scenario. There will be people that will feel inspired and there are others that will feel overwhelmed. How do you meet both? Not that many of the videos have segments this long so beginners can feel comfortable, and we include long segments every now and then to keep everyone challenged, it is not our intention to lower your confidence. We hope to make videos that aid in increasing short-term memory for interpretation in the future for those that seek to accomplish this.
Thank you regardless the videos it helps push me more,!@@Interpretyourworld
The thing is that some companies allow interpreters to kindly interrupt the doctors or provide you with shorter segments
It is possible to interpret everything if you know the procedures. Create your own symbols of the words you know will come up, acronyms and abbreviations by dropping the vowels, but never the first vowel and only use three or four letters, if you can't find something shorter like a symbol. Only take down keywords and weave the message by active listening and visualization. For example, SBC= shortness of breath or chest pain, BHRx= breathing problems, heart problems or reaction to medication, LTTV= lips, teeth, tissue in the mouth or vocal cords, Lchmt= loose, chipped or missing teeth, H or S= heart attack or stroke etc.
@@JaimeCarrillo-uu9jythis is very helpful! And it’s a great idea to memorize.. thanks for this I was getting really disappointed at how I was going to remember this super long sentences in order to be translated.. when you do the oral test with the state they don’t go on and talk for too long like they do on this video do they? Because otherwise it would be hard for me to retain everything that was said in that long paragraph and not sure if I can do it.. I’m sure I will get better but if that’s how the test is I’m kinda lost!..?..
I’ve done medical interpreting previously and got hired to work at a hospital. Thank you for this mock scenario, this reminds me it’s the same as working out, you have to restart somewhere to build your confidence back up.
You are welcome. I also share that same thought, specially when it comes to note taking and lengthy segments. Practice makes perfect.
Hello, how is it going with your work. Do they treat you well, do they value your service 🤔, and can you afford your living with it?

I’m a newbie to interpretation, I actually do have a very good grasp of the English and Spanish language, however, my trainer just told us “being bilingual does not mean you can interpret” which is true, it makes me feel nervous and it is barely my 2nd day of training, ¿podrías compartir vocabulario médico tanto en inglés y en español?
That is correct. Interpretation is an acquired skill. You can find a lot of vocabulary in the Unwind sessions, try the baby terps first and you can test your knowledge with the Tuesday Terp Challenge. I am an interpreter and it is really excellent scenario to practice. Awesome!
Thanks. I hope you take the long segments as an added challenge, not all the scenarios have segments this long.
The part where the doctor tells her about the forms and the risks should be shorter is way too long to remember everything
Not for everyone, but in real life you do have the option to ask for shorter segments. Having said that I have finally finally figured out a strategy that will allow me to serve both approaches to Interpreting. Expect the accommodations on future practice videos.

needless to say , a piece of art, everyone should give an affordable price to buy the course
Thank you for your support
I am taking a 4-week certification course while also seeking the national certification in late October. One of the biggest issues I have is a lack of vocabulary and my listening skills. I am not sure if 4 weeks and 12 sessions will be long enough to go over such a litany of terms and rules for this industry.
What can you suggest I do to prepare myself as much as I can before the class? Does 4 weeks sound enough to be able to pass the test and promptly begin work? And what are the types of jobs you have when you begin working part-time?
I am a fluent speaker (except for when I cannot think of the correct word for something), but as someone who has just began their exploration of this career path. Videos like these are incredibly helpful, and any input you can provide helps.
Thank you for the content!
HI, thanks! You are very welcome. I believe 4 weeks is good enough. No one expects you to be a diccionary. Having said that, make lists of common illneses, basic anatomy, major organs, common procedures and common medical tools. Once you have them, identify the ones you do not feel confortable with and study them. This is a slow process and although the vocubalry looks inmense it's a little rare for providers to use very technical language when speaking to patients. When this happens you can always clarify with the provider anything you do not understand. As for a part time gig I would suggest going over the phone or video remote since you will be getting alot of sessions and it is great practice. Good luck! Let us know how it goes, we are rooting for you!

Wow! That was harsh! 😅 How do I take notes of every key word? I tried with abreviations but then I didn't remember which words were. LOL.
No one makes the first jump from The Matrix is what comes to mind. This is going to take a lot of practice to actually pick and choose what words you write down. Another thing is that for notes it’s a good idea to make symbols for the most frequent used words in the field. There is no substitute for practice and preparation when it comes to taking good notes. You'll get there just be patient and practice, a lot.

Anyone that have work in interpretation online? it could be similiar to this. Or do doctors speak slower and paused?
You can always ask the other parties if they could speak slower but the speed is determined by the speaker which varies from person to person and situation.
In real scenario, you have most of the time control over the flaw of the session. You can always ask to slow down, repeat or speak in shorter chunks of information.

ruclips.net/p/PLt1PbUmmpClcIVFACIUrl3WubHK1xRwV7
Once the English part has passed you can check your comprehension with the Spanish translation that comes afterwards. I hope that helps.
@@Interpretyourworld it’s Russian. The things is American phonetics is closed compared to British one. When native speakers speak slowly I catch every word. Otherwise just 90% that’s frustrating😕
You can try these shorts they all have subtitles so you can check your understanding. MEDICAL DEFINITION: ruclips.net/p/PLt1PbUmmpClcjvIn-d-icXOWqb1COyUiS
Operation or surgury
Why not both! Both are correct en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surgery#:~:text=The%20act%20of%20performing%20surgery,surgical%20instruments%20or%20surgical%20nurse.
I am new as an Interpreter! I am so nervous! This is a great practice but that provider talks for a long time!!! 😳
Glad it was helpful! There are many other practice videos where the segments are not that long that you can also try.
do doctors tend to extend a procedure explanation that long knowing there is someone translating everything?....
Not all doctors, just a very rare few. You can always ask for repetitions and you can always ask for shorter segments. You can probably get away with short segments if you are not looking to be certified. Keep in mind that segments on the certification test can be up to 2 minutes in length.
@@Interpretyourworld I was going to apply today with propio.. I have short memory... This might not be for me then
@@alfihe you will never know until you try
I would like to add that you should probably take a 40 hour interpretation course in case you do not have any prior experience. There are companies that offer this trainings for free (Unpaid) before they hire you.
@@Interpretyourworld where can I get this certification?
I got 80% right. But I need to learn a good methodology to write key words down.
Almost there! Might I suggest giving Unwind Sessions a view, you might just find what you are looking for. ruclips.net/p/PLt1PbUmmpClecl2VUSBRo0KdjnQN-i-K5

Interpreting from Myanmar into English language and interpreting from English into Myanmar are not the most difficult tasks.
I don’t speak Myanmar, but I am intrigued. Why do you say so?
Doctor won't lose his time, he'll go full verbose lol
Some doctors were relentless when I started working, and I did not want interpreters to be caught off guard with that. Now that interpreters are more present in the field, I can't remember the last time I had a session like this.
where are the answers?
Here is the link to Patreon….www.patreon.com/Interpretyourworld, you will get access to ad-free medical interpretation practice videos, scripts, answer sheets and more for as little as 1 dollar of your support.

I can't even write notes correctly Im a mess with this, I thought I would be ready but I'm so far off that I don't even have hope in myself
Hey man, it's just lack of experience. With time it will get doable and easier. Trust the process
@@dakrazoris that how they do the oral test too.. that they say like 5 long sentences than they want you to translate all of it at the same time? I mean I have no problem translating is just when is too long I forgot what the first part was
@sindyorozco in my experience it wont be that long. They gave me several sentences but one at a time, giving me time to say them back, they were separated
@@dakrazoroh, thank you so much for answering this because this is why I was battling on taking this as a career or not. I guess I will also practice taking notes while they talk. I’m guessing the notes are taken in Spanish so that way you can translate it right away after the doctor stops talking so you won’t forget?
@sindyorozco Note-taking is really up to what works best with you. I started doing them manually and now I use the computer, see what feels more comfortable to you. And about the language of the notes is indifferent I would say, I usually take them in the language I'm listening to and translate after, but sometimes I translate right away. Just go with the flow with what feels comfortable, you'll find your personal method. If you have any questions dont hesitate to ask them, I've been in your place recently so I know how it feels lol
what is he saying at 4:25? Lose, sheet or mising teeth? that makes no sense, what is he really saying?

yep it's so long lmao
I am very bad at interpreting :(
That might be true now, but how long have you been doing this? Remember that interpreting is an acquired skill and with time and practice, you too can be good at interpreting. Don’t give up!

After being an interpreter for almost 10 years this is so easy. Just keep in mind when you do become a medical interpreter- it will get more difficult. Especially if you work at a hospital with many specialties. Just keep in mind you are interpreting patient’s medical care and treatment plans so this job is not to be taken lightly. Only because you are bilingual does not mean you can become an interpreter. I’ve come across interpreters where they can certainly speak Spanish but their English is completely terrible that I can barely understand. It’s so frustrating because then it just makes the whole team look like idiots.
It gets harder at first but once you are exposed to it everyday most of the vocabulary just becomes automatic. It definitely is a skill to master.

"Interpret here" 🤦
Too empty
We don't want to cause any distractions
Very unrealistic. Who the hell can do That?
Certified interpreters, apparently. Being bilingual does not make you an interpreter. You need special training to become one.
Me with no struggle
Are you even taking notes?

@@Fightrake LOL. Right?
Lo único que he conseguido con esta playlist es desmoralizarme. No sirve.
