Couldn't agree more to the concept of having a whole chicken being a "good reminder of they are not just a piece of meat but once were living things"
Thank you! Yes!!!!
People scream at other people for cultural appropriation as soon as they get the chance but bash her & criticize her for making a CULTURAL dish. Smh. Don't watch the video! she gave a warning in the beginning to exit out. This is her culture that she's sharing with us. she explained everything in the video. Don't be so dense.
Gina Adams lmao what an odd comment... people do call other people out sometimes for cultural appropriation and it is usually totally warranted - none of which has to do with emmy cooking a chicken in a pumpkin!!!! lol (: im sure the people making rude comments to her for making this dish are not the same people who are against cultural appropriation, that wouldnt make any sense (:
She is Japanese. This is a Chinese dish. This isn't her culture. But you're right about it NOT being cultural appropriation. She was very respectful and knowledgeable about the entire dish as always. Idk why some people are offended. Lol
Actually she's Chinese. She lived in Japan though.
Stevie Sosa Sweetie she’s Chinese
+Pendułum Yeah, I watched her Q&A... My bad lol
Omg it looks....exactly the same way it did when she put it in😂
Lol too funny!! Exactly what I was thinking.
Omg I was going to say that🤣🤣
the video is not disgusting, it is very interesting and she used mainly traditionally chinese ingredients and procidures
a lot of you should shut up and leave
Finally, someone being mature about this video
80% of them are from U.S.A where the land of politically correct people exist.
People are free to give an opinion. If you disagree with that, you should be the one that "should shut up and leave"
SaltyH2
You are contradicting yourself it's ridiculous. "People are free to give an opinion", but then you tell others to "shut up".

Love this - not really sure why so many find an animal disgusting. Where do they think tasteless boneless chicken breast come from?
shinybaldy People can’t make the connection unless they see it. God forbid they know where their food comes from and realize it doesn’t align with their morals.
My boss made me the black chicken soup when I got sick or had the flu and it helped put me on the mend.
Nice boss, you have :)
Kick0a0cat lloppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp
Is Hannibal your boss's name?
宇宙终结者 THIS WAS THE COMMENT I WAS LOOKING FOR
All chicken soup makes you feel better
It’s the damn chicken from Moana 😂😂
Saw that video. That was my favorite line.
I couldn’t agree more🎮🎧😄
**kalen Allen**
Hey hey!
I remember when kalen reacts reacted to it and said that lol 😂
I'm a vegetarian but I found this so interesting to watch! I had never heard of this type of chicken before, or heard of cooking chicken inside of a pumpkin! Great video Emmy! 😊👍
Points for not being the angry vegetarian and having a negative response 👌👍
MomOf2 PlusOtaku 😄
New Username That's it exactly! Glad I'm not alone in this viewpoint. Food is just all-around interesting. 😄
MomOf2 PlusOtaku i’m a veggie too and watched it for the same reason! Most of us are sane, reasonably people (same with vegans too) it just a few bad eggs (or bad egg replacer in vegans case lol) that make us look bad.
I'm a vegetarian as well and really enjoyed the video - very interesting! I also loved when she pointed out that she left the feet and head attached to remind herself that she is eating an animal (and not just some odd piece of meat with no resemblance to something living). :-)
Idk why everyone is flipping out over the color of the chicken. It's basically the same flavor as a regular chicken. It doesn't have some weird, exotic flavor. Stop being so childish. 😒😒😒
Its her tradition leave her alone!
She literally explains what makes it different.
my mouth is literally watering this first of all LOOKS stunning with the black chicken in an orange pumpkin... but all those herbs and rich broth sounds totally delicious!!!
Thank you for your enthusiasm. 🙌 For me, this dish is right up there with matzo ball soup, it's comforting and tasty; the perfect remedy for any ailment.

For anyone who wants to try this dish, but doesn't have access to get this breed of chicken, You can use cornish hen, you can still get the benefits of the Chinese herbs.
This would be super fun for a Halloween dinner party!
RobinOrzo now why didn't I think of that lol
I think that's why YT just recommend this video to me haha
Dont ever invite me to yo party girl. Ya nasty.
Damn why ya'll vegans even click on video just to comment your distaste towards the chicken
GhostKnightGaming dude your grammar is atrocious
I'm vegetarian and i can enjoy emmy's videos without saying rude comment about a chicken or my diet. The isn't about veganism it's about a damn recipe. She even mention to people to quit if they are squeamish gosh.
Was on a phone, happy? :)
*pulls chicken out of the oven*
Emmy: “Oh my gosh it looks beautiful!”
Me: I don’t see a difference
Aww... Silkie chickens are the cutest chicken out there.. :(
Nati Whatever yeah they’re so cute I could just eat it up. :)
It is the same as any other chicken. Ever heard of veganism? 😂
Nati Whatever Yeah I’m vegan, but I like her videos too much. They’re just interesting to watch
So do ugly chickens deserve to be eaten more than cute chickens?
lakab2 No, but it makes it easier 😂
Silkie chickens are so cute tho
Angel Parker they also taste good. Plus plus, really.
And delicious, apparently.
They are cute, but like many cute creatures they're rather low on the food chain.
So are guinea pigs.
Cows are more cute in my opinion
What a clever way to cook a chicken! I love the way you describe the foods you eat. I can almost taste it!
Thanks. 😋
I'm vegan
i have been eating black chicken soup all my life and never knew about that extra digit thing!
it's so pigmented
Scarlett Alvarez *Shooketh*
Scarlett Alvarez like, TOTALLY pigmented.
Lol
Literally SO pigmented
like so pigmented
My mom cooks black chicken with Asian herbs boiled while cut up it's very good after you have your baby for nutrition....I like it a lot too it's a little more expensive then the regular chicken..but I don't know how to cook it so I just eat it when my mom cooks it
Yes, it's suppose to be excellent for new mothers.
emmymadeinjapan Emmy your hair is so cute in this video! 🙂😜
Haha yea. I grew up with this black chicken too. Like it's always very expensive and when my mom does buy it, she uses it in a medicinal soup and I always liked the chicken a lot
It's nutrition is no different than a white chicken.
I love this ... its such a unique way of cooking something ... you can not beat the medicinal quality of the broth Yum
David Ens I mean, you know, medicine. That's still a thing.
😋
The adage, "you know what they call alternative medicine that works? Medicine"
really? is that scientifically proven....um no....www.nutritionfacts.org
can you clarify what you are talking about?
This just looks like something that's just so comforting it nurse someone back to health.
My mom used to make this for me growing up but just in a regular soup pot. She also used the pre-packaged Chinese herbs. I think she stopped making em with the black chicken cuz it was a little more expensive. We eventually just used normal chicken but still the same herbs/spices.
Was the black chicken a lot more expensive?
At $12 USD was reasonably more expensive.
Shoot, for that I think I'd roast a duck! Mmm
silkie chickens are a fancy breed that people often use as show chickens. I'm sure that it was much more expensive than buying normal cooking chicken
@@human_wreckage she knows that because she was already told that.
Yes I have 4 silikie chicken
my family makes the same herbal soup, but we use split cornish hens instead. it's perfect for autumn and winter.
Mmm...
My mom usually made soup from these chickens whenever I had acne or had bad cramps
I ALMOST GOT SCARED LOOKING AT THAT THUMBNAIL! 😂😂😂 but, I have had black chicken before and this video is very creative :) :P
I really appreciate the biology along with the unique application. As always, top notch production.
Thanks so much. 😊
emmymadeinjapan Just say'n, you are amazing. Again, tho', those editing skills are killing it, along with the beautiful content. Thank you for the diversion from this thing that they call life.
The pumpkin worked much better than the watermelon. This still looked like a pumpkin rather than almost disintegrating lol
Very cool video, I got to try this type of chicken last year visiting a friend's house. All I can say about what is was like - it tasted like chicken.
You should do cooking with emmy, no testing, something you would just cook for dinner of something or one of your fave recipes🤷♀️
Chinese herbal soup is delicious! I've never had it with chicken though, only lamb. I want to try this now :)
I volunteered at a zoo for two weeks, and one of my jobs was working with the silkies. From what I've seen in the comments, silkies are "nice, docile birds with big personalities."
I beg to differ. They are the most ungrateful, tyrannical little monsters whose goal is to chase you around the petting zoo, nipping at your heels.
I'm still traumatized from my experience. *shrudders*
Maybe because they were living in an animal prison?
Two weeks? Lol I've been raising animals (including chickens) for 15 YEARS. Silkies are sweethearts compared to others. But yes, no animal is the same, they are individuals just like any other living thing. Maybe the ones you met were not raised as friendly or had a different personality. I've had aggressive chickens and docile ones. They have certain body languages and interesting behaviors too, just like other animals. Just get to really know one, silkies make great pets.
I marathon-ed Hannibal while on my last petsitting job after it was recommended to me by a friend (I'm slowly getting into scary stuff), and when one of the characters gets sick Hannibal makes him silkie chicken soup with the berries and spices. I thought it sounded bizarre in the show, but you make unfamiliar foods so accessible that now I think I could try it and probably like it. You're always broadening my horizons, Emmy! :D
I like how Emmy has this curled bob hair going, very cute!
Never thought about eating a silky chicken, never knew they had black skin, so awesome, thank you for educating us in such a fun and enjoyable way 🤗
Love your videos Emmy, I've been watching for a few years now ✨
It's sweet that your making a dish that your Mother cooked for you!
Mom's home cooking must have been wonderful!
I've never seen a black chicken in my life... but I've heard of a variety of chicken that has blue legs/drumsticks
Chicken fat chapstick??
is that the blue araucana?
KuroiMushi Jesus saves, testimonials playlist
I've never eaten a Silkie but I have had them in my flock. They are good layers and they are wonderful mothers. I often use them to hatch other chicken's eggs. I've always wondered what they tasted like, but couldn't ever bring myself to eat one... although my Silkie rooster, Kung Pao, came close to being the first Silkie in my soup pot. He is lucky he was such a good flock guardian because he was a jerk to me. Apparently it is not characteristic of the breed to be aggressive, but my rooster was. However, the hens were very sweet. :)
I'm loving her hair in this video
I had the subtitles on, and right before she tasted the broth, it said "all right the ducky balls" 😂
People might not feel the same as I do when I say this, but Emmy for the longest I would look in the mirror and be absolutely disgusted of who I am. I don't really like my looks and I deal with my confidence every day. And just the fact that you say beautiful lovelies on your videos really makes me feel confident in myself and it really seems like you're talking directly to me. I still deal with me not liking my looks, but thank you for taking the time out of your day to call your supporters beautiful.
Silkie chickens are lovely to raise, they are quiet, docile and good layers. They do go broody quite frequently so they are good sitters for hatching eggs and supposedly good mother hens (we've never raised chicks by broody hen, so I don't know by experience) We've had white feathered, blue feathered and partridge feathered silkies, and really enjoyed having them.
I'm a MASSIVE weenie. No way if there's still a head or feet attached.
limalicious yea either...little too close to nature for me lol
Chicken feet are really good, you should try them!!
So agree about the chicken feet. I raise ducks and have treated bumblefoot enough times to NEVER want to eat poultry feet, or have my poultry cooked with feet still on.
I agree. Y'all can keep your heads-and-feet-still-attached meat to yourselves.
I couldn’t eat anything that had feet either
My friend, who is from China, made black silkie soup for me when I was sick last year and def noticed the chicken is more on the dryer side since it's more lean, but it was a great soup to have when feeling under the weather!
How unique!
Ana Castaneda you mean different 😂
Salma Reda no she means unique
Van 666
Meaning of Unique : being the only one of its kind; unlike anything else
Since it’s not the only one of it’s kind , it’s 100% different lol
Salma Reda well i haven't seen a chicken cooked in a pumpking yet.. so for me it's super unique😉
Van 666 then imagine how unique you’d find a dictionary 😂 you do you boo!
Okay but using the jar lid to get the seeds out is GENIOUS. I always resort to using my hands because with a spoon I just can't get the control I'd like. Definitely gonna try that this year.
My mom is making that soup at this very moment! (Except we don't use black chickens cuz we can't find it as easily) I can't wait *drool*
chicken fat chapstick? 😂 this was really interesting to watch and learn about, thanks emmy!
You're most welcome. 🤗
You have such a soothing voice Emmy, love your videos and think you're brilliant!! Keep going you wonderful woman ❤️
Harriet Wiley Dramatic much 😂😂😂😂😂
I subscribed because of the unalloyed cuteness, but any one who cooks a chicken in a pumpkin has my attention
I wonder if you cooked it inside an eating pumpkin and then puréed the broth and the flesh of the pumpkin after cooking if you could get a really hearty pumpkin soup for the fall? Sounds delicious to me 😋
Ty. We love blacks silkies for their quirky disposition and their healing properties. What a beautiful bird. Thank you for sharing their unique qualities with so many!
That Chicken looks Fowl!!
abingleyboy Such pun game
lol quit
I don’t want to be a BIRDen, but could you enFLIGHTen me?
Vamshi 🖒😉!!
Soil Bound 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hahaha the music when she unveiled the chicken sounded so dramatic and spooky! Very Halloween appropriate
I have pet Silkie chickens, I love them.
I've read through almost every comment on this video at the time I'm viewing this video. Tbh, yes, the chicken may appear disgusting or unappeitizing by its colour or whatever. Your opinions do not make you rascist unless you are really being rascist. But this chicken is used a lot in Chinese tradition. The chicken doesn't taste like much, but trust me, as a Chinese-Canadian who used to be put off by its colour and taste, I really enjoy the herbal soup made with this or normal chickens (this chicken is the most nutricious). The soup is honestly amazing, and it helps a lot to boost energy, especially after pregnancies and surgeries. In the end, your opinion is still your own opinion, but pleade don't be mean about the chicken or any cultures that enjoy this type of chicken.
おいしいそ〜!食べたいよ!Thank you as always for your great videos! I imagine the lean, less juicy texture is because these birds really are "free range"...Venison, boar, and wild rabbits also are very lean. It might be interesting to experiment with some of the traditional techniques used to tenderize and juicify (is that a word?) forest food to enhance the black silkie chicken experience.
Never thought a mutant silkie could look so darn TASTY! Of course my boyfriend would call me creepy cooking chickens in pumpkins, at least here the head is gone. Need to see the watermelon chicken video!
I love how open she is to everything but there is NO way. There is NO way ever. I’m way to picky 😂
Because it's black? I'm guessing you're American and I'm ashamed to say I am too.
Strawberry Pop-Tart the fuck is that supposed to mean? Is it because it’s black? Because I am a black person. If that was the reason you need to fuck off and stop assuming shit.
I'm assuming they meant because western countries never usually eat silkie chickens, so it's out of the norm to do so. That's why a lot of people are squeamish.
dinopup their comment was still unnecessary on mine when there were tons of other people saying the same thing. Excuse me for not liking new things.
I lived in Paris one winter and up the street (Rue) was a stunning hunters butcher and the game, mostly foul, were hanging up by their feet.
I was amazed and stood out front frequently just to admire them.
I am going to bring this to my next potluck. Everyone is vegan but me
Jamil Johnson That’s kind of rude and insensitive. Just take your own serving or eat before. I mean vegan food isn’t bad, it’s really majority of food. No need to gross out everyone there 😂
Courtney love it's a fucking joke. Jesus. Why do people have to be so extra lol.
Courtney love lol it really was a joke
Jamil Johnson lolololololol
Rj r idk seems to me you're being pretty extra she was being completely polite and truthful and how are you supposed to know when something written in text with almost no punctuation/expression is a joke
Cooking with pumpkins? Emmy is her own thing.
Polydactyl? Intriguing.
I wonder why. Is it a call back to a evolutionary ancestor? Is it related to the black pigmentation? Fascinating!
Also, I am to hungry to watch this...
I swear I could taste it...
Some silkie chickens have 4 fingers on each feet, but it seems as though the alleles for 5 fingers is dominant, so most silkie chickens would be considered polydactyl. Probably chickens were mostly polydactyl in the past, but mutations might have made some other breeds of chickens be mostly four fingered on each feet.
The polydactyl gene is in many animals and even humans. Cats who have it look like they are wearing mittens. It's so cute.
That roasted pumpkin color is gorgeous
Mmm that broth looks so good
In the spirit of the Halloween season, with you wearing black, and with all the exotic ingredients I can't help but imagine this is actually your secret witch's brew of immortality.
a very halloween cooking ep haha
Emmy wears a silky black dress to cook a silky black chicken. Nice!
How to find a vegan?
You don't have to; they always announce their presence.
Funny because my comment section rn is : 95% hating on people that got offended , vegans etc. 4% amazing recipe, good job etc. and 1% where did you find a black chicken , i've never seen one and 0% vegans or vegeterians being offended. your mind>>>
I once saw this fowl in a documentary yrs ago. A lady was plucking it and the skin it was incredible, almost purple to black
Absolutely gorgeous. Yummy wish I can get this, just love chicken soup 🍜
ah it's just the skin, try cemani, everything is black including the organ
Andrew Perry my thoughts too! Now THAT is an experience! And they're such pretty birds.
These kind of recipes are the special things that a mother passes to her daughter. So excited to try!
I like it. I wanna try this with an eating pumkin. You get a nice meal with a vegetable side dish.
I am so relieved that is the natural color of the chicken! At first I thought this was some concoction of food dye. Honestly I'd try it, those herbs sound amazing. I am very open minded to trying new foods and I was once a very picky eater. I got over it once I gained an interest in trying foods from other cultures. The way people are reacting in comments reminds me of my fear of trying a black egg which I think they call a century egg... I still tried it though and it was not bad at all! Now let me tell you... compared to this chicken that black egg is scary looking haha
Maaaaan. Silkies are the cutiest. Not gonna lie though that looks gewd Emmy!
Thanks. I got one and gonna cook it now. Now I know what to do.
I bet that broth would be even better if it had a couple of Chinese red dates (hong to?) in it.
Emmy, I’ve watched your videos for forever and I just think your videos are so unique keep up the good work!
Who else noticed the out-of-place frame slipped in the video right around the 3:11 mark (maybe a split-second just before or after that mark)? I thought it might have been an easter egg, so I checked it out using a frame-by-frame video player, but it just looks like an arbitrary frame from the video that got spliced in out of place. No more, no less.
I think it’s just the equivalent of a small typo in the video editing world. However, I have to wonder if Emmy didn’t just subtly, but intentionally, troll me by adding in a single, errant frame, hoping viewers on mobile devices, like me, would go through the effort of having to open the video up in an alternate player and meticulously navigate, frame by frame, to just the riiiigggghhhhtttt spot … all to find bupkis. Ha! If that was your intention, Emmy … well played-well played, indeed.
For anyone thinking what I think one might be thinking: I did try pausing on the correct frame using just the native RUclips player and RUclips app, foregoing the hassle of using alternate players, editors, apps, web extensions (including the hunt to even find extensions that would work on the mobile versions of their associated browsers … ). Trust me, I tried for waaaayyyy too long before trying more efficient and intelligent methods. It’s just nigh impossible to pause on the exact, right frame using RUclips’s native player, since it appears the splice is, literally, precisely one single frame. Oi vey.
Boy, you really do write a LOT over something that happened in a millisecond 😂
dude are you okay lmao
this is an amazing comment
Scott Wilson you talk a lot
I've had the silkie chicken cooked in a huge Wintermelon (older fuzzy melon) with similar seasonings. It's a luxury type dish, like birds nest soup or shark fin soup (before the ban).
yay you used my suggestion for cooking in a pumpkin!
Love the subliminal imagery of Emmy’s face popping in at 3.11 when she’s describing the recipe 🤘
Chicken fat chapstick. The chicken looks like a survivor of a nuclear accident. I can see the ads now, Black chicken from 3 mile island farms. 75% off if you find a third leg or wing.
Oh man, using the lid of a jar for a pumpkin scraper is genius. Thanks emmy
I came from Kalen allen
Oh also, what a beautiful and unique idea, cooking in the pumpkin. I adore your videos omgosh!!!!!
I love this idea. I think I'm going to "Americanize" it. Just make my chicken soup in a pumpkin for Halloween. My granddaughter will love this.
I'm noticing all the pin feathers on the chicken. Did clean the bird at all??
Thank you for the thorough explanation!
What about the pork?!
dcintron23 yum, that's what!
I always salt and pepper my chicken or turkey put butter on it or olive oil I like lots of seasoning but I have never heard of a black chicken before. I would try it though my husband would not!
Who managed to find this video because of KalenSpeaks?
The first time I've ever seen where a Kalen Allen video originated. I'd remember that chicken and pumpkin anywhere. Lol
Subliminal Emmy sighting at 3:10. Hehe.
Its very odd...never eaten anything like this before. I remember when my grandmother had chickens, unfortunately a fox caught all of them except for one baby chick. So what my nana did was she bought a silkie chicken and this chicken brought up a chick that wasn't its own all by itself, silkies are very well known for having an extreme maternal instinct and they are also great for incubating eggs if the original mother has died or has abandoned her eggs because silkies are so fluffy and warm! :)
I thought there was a snake in the thumbnail
I’ve seen a black chicken in store before, but I didn’t know it was a silkie. Learned something new.
who else is here from kalen reacts
What an awesome video!!! Super spoooky! I learned so much!
Great! 🤓
Yup I’m vegan now
Sarah does nails Racist!
Fabricio Medeiros Just stop please.
Why?
Sarah does nails 😂😂😂😂💕💕💕
fari Yes! Hahahhahaha
sooooo beautiful and wholesome right back to nature and such a lovely spread for like a Halloween or Autumn feast...absolutely brilliant!!!! love love love your videos Emmy :)
