Couldn't agree more to the concept of having a whole chicken being a "good reminder of they are not just a piece of meat but once were living things"

People scream at other people for cultural appropriation as soon as they get the chance but bash her & criticize her for making a CULTURAL dish. Smh. Don't watch the video! she gave a warning in the beginning to exit out. This is her culture that she's sharing with us. she explained everything in the video. Don't be so dense.

Gina Adams lmao what an odd comment... people do call other people out sometimes for cultural appropriation and it is usually totally warranted - none of which has to do with emmy cooking a chicken in a pumpkin!!!! lol (: im sure the people making rude comments to her for making this dish are not the same people who are against cultural appropriation, that wouldnt make any sense (:

She is Japanese. This is a Chinese dish. This isn't her culture. But you're right about it NOT being cultural appropriation. She was very respectful and knowledgeable about the entire dish as always. Idk why some people are offended. Lol

I volunteered at a zoo for two weeks, and one of my jobs was working with the silkies. From what I've seen in the comments, silkies are "nice, docile birds with big personalities."
I beg to differ. They are the most ungrateful, tyrannical little monsters whose goal is to chase you around the petting zoo, nipping at your heels.
I'm still traumatized from my experience. *shrudders*

Two weeks? Lol I've been raising animals (including chickens) for 15 YEARS. Silkies are sweethearts compared to others. But yes, no animal is the same, they are individuals just like any other living thing. Maybe the ones you met were not raised as friendly or had a different personality. I've had aggressive chickens and docile ones. They have certain body languages and interesting behaviors too, just like other animals. Just get to really know one, silkies make great pets.

I've never eaten a Silkie but I have had them in my flock. They are good layers and they are wonderful mothers. I often use them to hatch other chicken's eggs. I've always wondered what they tasted like, but couldn't ever bring myself to eat one... although my Silkie rooster, Kung Pao, came close to being the first Silkie in my soup pot. He is lucky he was such a good flock guardian because he was a jerk to me. Apparently it is not characteristic of the breed to be aggressive, but my rooster was. However, the hens were very sweet. :)

Silkie chickens are lovely to raise, they are quiet, docile and good layers. They do go broody quite frequently so they are good sitters for hatching eggs and supposedly good mother hens (we've never raised chicks by broody hen, so I don't know by experience) We've had white feathered, blue feathered and partridge feathered silkies, and really enjoyed having them.

I wonder if you cooked it inside an eating pumpkin and then puréed the broth and the flesh of the pumpkin after cooking if you could get a really hearty pumpkin soup for the fall? Sounds delicious to me 😋

I've read through almost every comment on this video at the time I'm viewing this video. Tbh, yes, the chicken may appear disgusting or unappeitizing by its colour or whatever. Your opinions do not make you rascist unless you are really being rascist. But this chicken is used a lot in Chinese tradition. The chicken doesn't taste like much, but trust me, as a Chinese-Canadian who used to be put off by its colour and taste, I really enjoy the herbal soup made with this or normal chickens (this chicken is the most nutricious). The soup is honestly amazing, and it helps a lot to boost energy, especially after pregnancies and surgeries. In the end, your opinion is still your own opinion, but pleade don't be mean about the chicken or any cultures that enjoy this type of chicken.

おいしいそ〜!食べたいよ!Thank you as always for your great videos! I imagine the lean, less juicy texture is because these birds really are "free range"...Venison, boar, and wild rabbits also are very lean. It might be interesting to experiment with some of the traditional techniques used to tenderize and juicify (is that a word?) forest food to enhance the black silkie chicken experience.

I'm assuming they meant because western countries never usually eat silkie chickens, so it's out of the norm to do so. That's why a lot of people are squeamish.

    Polydactyl? Intriguing.
I wonder why. Is it a call back to a evolutionary ancestor? Is it related to the black pigmentation? Fascinating!
Also, I am to hungry to watch this...

    • @Ryeriley
      @Ryeriley 7 лет назад +1

Some silkie chickens have 4 fingers on each feet, but it seems as though the alleles for 5 fingers is dominant, so most silkie chickens would be considered polydactyl. Probably chickens were mostly polydactyl in the past, but mutations might have made some other breeds of chickens be mostly four fingered on each feet.

    • @LLWW

I am so relieved that is the natural color of the chicken! At first I thought this was some concoction of food dye. Honestly I'd try it, those herbs sound amazing. I am very open minded to trying new foods and I was once a very picky eater. I got over it once I gained an interest in trying foods from other cultures. The way people are reacting in comments reminds me of my fear of trying a black egg which I think they call a century egg... I still tried it though and it was not bad at all! Now let me tell you... compared to this chicken that black egg is scary looking haha

Who else noticed the out-of-place frame slipped in the video right around the 3:11 mark (maybe a split-second just before or after that mark)? I thought it might have been an easter egg, so I checked it out using a frame-by-frame video player, but it just looks like an arbitrary frame from the video that got spliced in out of place. No more, no less.
I think it’s just the equivalent of a small typo in the video editing world. However, I have to wonder if Emmy didn’t just subtly, but intentionally, troll me by adding in a single, errant frame, hoping viewers on mobile devices, like me, would go through the effort of having to open the video up in an alternate player and meticulously navigate, frame by frame, to just the riiiigggghhhhtttt spot … all to find bupkis. Ha! If that was your intention, Emmy … well played-well played, indeed.
For anyone thinking what I think one might be thinking: I did try pausing on the correct frame using just the native RUclips player and RUclips app, foregoing the hassle of using alternate players, editors, apps, web extensions (including the hunt to even find extensions that would work on the mobile versions of their associated browsers … ). Trust me, I tried for waaaayyyy too long before trying more efficient and intelligent methods. It’s just nigh impossible to pause on the exact, right frame using RUclips’s native player, since it appears the splice is, literally, precisely one single frame. Oi vey.

Its very odd...never eaten anything like this before. I remember when my grandmother had chickens, unfortunately a fox caught all of them except for one baby chick. So what my nana did was she bought a silkie chicken and this chicken brought up a chick that wasn't its own all by itself, silkies are very well known for having an extreme maternal instinct and they are also great for incubating eggs if the original mother has died or has abandoned her eggs because silkies are so fluffy and warm! :)
