The ability to just poise through the majority of his attacks is what won this fight; without it i'm pretty sure the victor would be Isshin.
Remember, she doesn't use waterflow dance here. And isshin Has more HP. He still Has advatages here
And she can't even health with her attack here.

Alot of isshins functionality got removed. His first phase change is supposed to have a knockdown effect, his phase one ashina cross is supposed to be an unblockable counter if attacked during. Malenia must have some insane knockdown resist. If she had stats like the other sekiro bosses she would have lost due to all the knockdowns and staggers isshin normally gets

Malenia has frame 1 infinite hyperarmor on alot of her attacks, meaning the ONLY thing that'll interrupt is killing her or proccing a status effect. Can't be knocked down, stance broken, or interrupted

I've always wondered why they didn't use the original waterfowl not only does it look REMARKABLY easier to dodge than the one we got It also looks more like a perfected version of her master's dance
The more I see the cut waterfowl the more the non cut one looks like Luffys gum gum fireworks
Dont even have to dodge it, just endure through it
I would have liked it if they'd made the original appear in the first phase, then when Malenia loses herself and becomes the Goddess of Rot she performs the waterfowl we got, since she loses her technique and becomes wore wild and erratic.
Same reason she got lifesteal, random hyperarmor and even animation cancelling

This fight hilights one of the big differences that made Sekiro so amazing. The bosses actually react to being hit. Malenia basically only staggers when being electrocuted whereas Ishin is getting knocked down and staggered all over the place.
You're right. Elden ring might be new but the boss stagger mechanic in this game is the same mechanic directly lifted from dark souls 1 from 12 years ago. Sekiro boss mechanic is much more engaging because bosses actually react to your hits and not just poise through everything.

Even the petal AoE thingie is easy filler from being lightning.
Apart from Waterfowl being Spiral Passage, how her kit is basically Sekiro-ish down to certain thrust moves being 1:1 Mikiriable + Sakura Dance in it(see others where someone ports her to Sekiro), the lifesteal on all hits fits significantly more for a Sekiro DLC gimmick than Bloodborne's lifesteal after trading or healing/regenning after casting a miracle from DS3.
It feels significantly less out of place in Sekiro, since it would require you to beat her purely out of perfect parrying and not just slowly chipping her down with Gourds/Empowered Mortal Lulz/Flame vented Spiral Passage.

Honestly I didn't think Isshin would get as close as he did, bravo to the old fart for not only surviving but punching back pretty hard.
To be honest this fight wasn't very good, Malenia had two attacks she shouldn't have and Isshin was a weird amalgamation of all 3 of his versions with attacks that screwed up his ai. Even inner Isshin is a worse version of him because of that.

@@SpadeApeiron not that tomoe. There was a tomoe in Sekiro who taught genichiro how to lightning bend. She died prior to the story and once almost killed isshin in his prime.

My favourite Elden Ring Boss vs my favourite Sekiro Boss. It was pleasure to watch.
Imagine if it was actually Just Malenia as is in Elden Ring where she couldn’t parry. Now imaging if Isshin could deathblow staggered enemies like wolf can. Malenia would barely be able to do anything, she’d just get parried to death.

I heard a rumor that Elden Ring reused assets from other souls games, so maybe malenia could be using tomoe fighting style? it looks like she could fit perfectly in sekiro
Well each souls game has reused assets from the previous titles, building off of the prior generations
If you look at monster hunter, they do the same with each gen, using skeletons, animations, and meshes
It's not a rumor, anyone who plays Elden Ring and the earlier games can very clearly see when prior assets are being used. The little gargoyles in dungeons for instance are a very clear palette swap of the hatted thieves from DS3, right down to the exact same animations.
Both games were made at the same time if that was the case then why shouldnt have they carried over to elden ring other things sekiro did much more better?

Like 99% sure Malenia supposed to be Lady Tomoe from scrapped DLC. Her moveset, her speed, her effects how the sparks fly off her weapon, it’s all Sekiro stuff. Doesn’t really fit with the rest of ER stuff. There’s a few moves (like stick her arm out to the side and sweep by you) that just scream Sekiro.
Same with Elden Beast! Fairly certain he’s a repurposed Divine Dragon. Extremely similar movements and attacks with the sword.
I’m guessing we would’ve fought Tomoe and some variant of Divine dragon as very hard endgame DLC fights in Sekiro, but instead they were translated into the final boss and (arguably) hardest boss in Elden Ring.
I mean mass parrying the waterfowl, desperately needing to parry all her moves so she doesn’t heal, even the sounds her PROSTHETIC arm makes, it fits perfect for Sekiro and feels almost out of place in ER.
It was pretty close at the end there, plus her poise is insane. She staggered isshin with every attack and he barely moved her with his. Without her hyperarmour to tank trough his hits she would have lost. But I suppose it balances out the fact that she doesn't regen.

But idk why people making excuses and saying they made melania even more powerful than elden ring version , its judt a mod and he added the lighting and increased the speed to fit in sekiro’s world . Just enjoy the mod .

It’s actually possible to parry waterfowl dance, just takes insane skill. Only saw it done once
Any chance you could balance the poise, it can be easily seen that malenia is bassicly not carrying about isshin attakcks at all while Isshin is geting poise broke on all attacks bassicly.
In that Case you could also say give her the health regeneration Back. Including the fact that she doesn't parry and just takes the Hits and has one Life less i think it's more than balanced

realistically and lore wise, yeah definitely. Isshin would learn her moves throughout the fight and probably start to copy her movements. Malenia also had lightning in this for some reason when she shouldn't know how to do that, thats not even mentioning the infinite poise she has.

Inner versions are, lorewise, idealised what-if versions of characters.
And even then, Malenia has nuked a continent lorewise, corrupting all life within it by her power.
Malenia could literally destroy entire Ashina with one attack if she wanted, lorewise.
Lucky for him, Malenia doesn't have life-steal or scarlet rot
problem is he gets knocked down but she dosn't, for example when he reaches the phase with the spear, at the begginign if you are too close you get knocked on the ground but malenia dosn't, kinda unfair for our little Glock Saint

I would love a video on how its even possible to do this! The process of doing so seems so fascinating in its own right. There seems to be essence of the okami warrior in her animation so did he somehow paste melenia onto an okami warrior? Or somehow actually add all of Malenias battle data into a model. It's cross platform generation but that means that Elden Ring and Sekiro work on similar game systems?

Malenia is difficult since she can heal with each attack, while Isshin is much harder since you can’t summon a Mimic Tear and other players to occupy him for enough killing blows like you can with the former. Malenia can be cheesed with a weakness effect like bleeding while Isshin (and Sekiro in general) relies heavily on skill!
