My first year selling on ebay I sold $6k in comics and after all the fees and shipping I ended up breaking even for the year. You def have to go through it to understand how to do it better going forward. A lot of sellers out there want the quick and easy way to make money and expect to never fail....its not going to happen. Smalls are the way to go. Buy cheap, sell at a fair price and make a few bucks then repeat a thousand times.
Last night i sent an offer on a listing for the starting price + shipping ($35+10) and they declined because I needed to pay the extra $10 to cover their fuel cost because they had to go to the post office to see how much it was actually going to cost. I said uh no thank, good luck. Advice to new sellers is know up front what your cost is going to be and if needed add a few dollars. I charge $4.99 for 1-4 comics and the price usually is between $3.50-$6.00. Best case I end up with an extra 1.50, worst case is I lose $1.00 but I will never make the customer pay for it. 6,000 transactions strong and less than 15 upset customers. ~thanks for the upload!

I agree totally. Make sure you have a box and a shipping plan for larger items BEFORE you list them!
When you do your weight for shipping things out, do you estimate total weight that includes the box or do you physically weigh them when you post a new listing? Aside from the free shipping listings of course.

Love your advice for new resellers, Lonnie. And yes, I freaking hate listing clothing. I have a death pile to go through from items I bought months ago. Now, I try to target better clothing items (when I do look at clothes) if possible. My favorite thing was my thermal label printer. I did not like printing out labels, cutting, and taping them. Hey Lonnie- I enjoy the videos. You have links here to physical products that you use to help you with your eBay business, but in watching your videos my ears always perk up when you mention a piece of computer software, phone app that you use, or maybe a research or reference website that has tools or information that you find useful. I find that very helpful. Could you do a special video on those or else a special segment? It's always fun to share tools that we use. Thanks - Ron

This may not work for lamps unless you’re willing to put out some extra cash but if you’re new to shipping fragile items and it’s something you know you’ll be doing more of in the future, say coffee mugs, go to goodwill and buy 2-3 sacrificial mugs, bring them home and pack them up as if you’re going to ship them across the country. Now throw the package down a flight of stairs or off the side of a 2nd story railing. Did it survive? If it did, you’re in pretty good shape for shipping merchandise. If it didn’t try again. Packages often get dropped many feet in PO processing and you don’t want to find out that you need more practice packing by losing a high dollar item to insufficient packaging.
Nice advice for new ebay sellers. Underestimating shipping costs was the major mistake that I made when I started selling. Also, MUG.

My worst pet peeves is a dirty garage sale. Clothes that smell, dishes that aren't really clean, stuffed animals that stink. Also I never buy a puzzle unless it's new. I've bought too many puzzles missing pieces. I only buy games that are new or that I can stand right there and count the game pieces.

You mentioned staying clear of clothing. I sell everything but I have about 200 clothing items. Because I travel and take inventory with me, clothing is easy. It takes little room, ships easily and is easy to source. It’s long tail so you have to be aware that it is slower. But it is very easy. I also have about 200 video games with me and twenty pairs of shoes. All the big stuff is at home and I list when I’m there and take it down when I leave.

I use to sell nothing but clothes and a few other items here & there then went away from clothing & strictly hard goods but now i find myself going back to clothing. I know enough about clothing to sell & make good money but it is very tedious & time consuming looking through all the items at a thrift store or yard sale. I would absolutely love to run across items like you find but for whatever reason my area is just has dried up on hard goods. -

My first sell on ebay was in 1999, I found 3 Marilyn Monroe dolls at a Big Lots on sale for $5.00, so I got them and put them on ebay, they sold for around $20.00 each to the same buyer, but she was in another country and I had never shipped anything overseas before, so I just guessed and charged $20. and I got to the post office and it was almost $80!!! lol...so my first sale was horrible, but I never made that mistake again :)
Great video. What is that buzzing sound/high pitched ringing noise throughout the video in behind your voice in several of your videos? It makes your vids hard to watch sometimes. Spefically around the 5:03 mark ends around the 10:26 mark. I've only noticed it your most recent videos. Don't know how long it's been doing it. I love your channel and can't wait til the next upload.

MUG, MUG, MUG - I have pretty much been binge watching a backlog of your videos the past couple of weeks since i found the channel, after watching Nic & Andrea Hills channel (Our UK flipping counterparts). Thanks for the great Vids.
I think it was your channel that was talking about getting free thermal labels from UPS. A UPS rep called me a little while ago and said he noticed I opened an account. Must have happened when I signed up for UPS labels on eBay. I asked him about the free labels because I getting ready to buy a Rollo Printer. He said if I buy one of their printers for $3 per week they supply labels. That's a negative for me ghost rider, I don't want UPS drafting my account every week. Let me know how you do it in case I missed something.
i've never gotten free labels from ups or fedex, i was answering a question about why i don't. i buy mine on ebay.

So I have watched your garage flip videos were you buy from "your guy" and you referenced him in this video. Whats the back story? How did you start dealing with "your guy"? Where did you meet "your guy"? I have found that shipping is tough for new sellers but right now I'm struggling with sourcing more than shipping. I guess I need "a guy" to source from and a mug.
