    I always wonder why people play AK, AQ, or AJ into 4-5 bets out of position. I never tend to win in that situation regardless of what they're repping, both attempting to hit and bluff, so it feels like the risk < reward. Great videos though and I love the commentary. And you're a fellow 9ers fan. We doing it big this year!

    The reasoning you say, is what I used to say when I was playing a little too passive in some spots - "I'm going to just call, because I could be against a big hand" - so you want to flop a king and get stacked then? Better reasoning is "I'm going to call because I don't think my opponents would call a 4bet with AJ/AQ/A10 or KQ etc -- some of the time I'll be beat, but I'll get value when I'm ahead under repping slightly.
    Short of that stick in the 4bet and find out where you are - if you pick it up great! If you get jammed on, hate your life and fold lol

    • @jasonhounsell3297
      @jasonhounsell3297 5 лет назад

      It's worth noting I paused this before you decided. I'm happy you 4bet - and as played - checking the flop I like - his bet is very good as it puts your range in a tough spot, and calling is fine. When he checks behind turn he's going to have Q's and J's a lot - I'm never check calling river - however him checking behind for pot control would really tempt me to overbet the river - I do this when I'm tilted and press all reads I have (sometimes I play better tilted as all fear is gone - sometimes all sense too haha)

  • @gmoney113
    @gmoney113 5 лет назад +1

    So I have a question for u Brad or anybody else that wants to give this a shot. I won’t go over the whole hand but the short of it is this. I made a continuation bet in the cutoff with the button in and two early position callers. The board hit dry. After I bet the button was thinking about calling when the first early position player folded out of turn. The button saw this and at that point decided making to make the call. I ended up checking it down and losing the hand. My question is this. Do I have any recourse in that situation when the guy folds out of turn? The button himself told me the only reason he called the continuation bet was because he now had only one player behind him and not two because the guy folded out of position.

  • @Jayyyjy
    @Jayyyjy 6 лет назад

    Hey Brad, recently found your channel and liking the content so far. I was actually thinking about the first hand you played with AK against the pocket jacks. On the river, could you have considered a check raise on the river? You block aces and kings, and tbh the villain's line seems a lot like jacks or queens that got slightly scared about you slow playing aces or kings on the turn. Leading the river would get called by JJ and QQ, but check-raise would put those hands in a very tough spot. Of course you could be facing AA or KK too, but overall I could see some merit in this play, especially since river check raises are so rarely used as bluffs that you could definitely get some better hands to fold. Besides if he was bluffing with AK you would be able to raise him off a chop.

    • @BradOwenPoker
      @BradOwenPoker  6 лет назад

      Thanks for watching. I don't think a check-raise would make much sense in that spot. I wouldn't check all 3 streets with AA or KK or a hand containing a 4. I think it would look fishy.

    Brad, you need to train 4bet pots eg on upswing poker or somewhere. In 4 bet pots ppl call a lot with TT-QQ nowadays. If you have AK absolutely pressure them eg min check raise the flop shove turn or bet flop bet turn allin. you have fold equity, believe me. Then with the AA, first 4 bet smaller, then, again if he has JJ, AQ or KK or even TT he will call a small flop bet and turn he will call an allin as there are lots of draws you could have. river, you could shove river as it looks weaker and only QQ slowpl and KcQc beat you. remember you block half the combos of AK

    Can someone comment on this, 1/3 all rec. players.
    UTG opens $20 ($170),
    me HJ calls $20 with (A,10 hearts) ($850),
    button calls, ($450),
    SB ($162) shoves all in, UTG calls,
    my decision, do I call, fold or raise?
    UTG player have shown a wide range,
    SB been bleeding slowly but not out of line,
    Button's range have been in between the SB and UTG players aforementioned.
    thanks in advance, DS

    Hey brad will you ever come to Australia? Next March we have the Aussies millions 1500 buy in.

      I'd love to go. It's just tough to justify spending all the money for travel to play tournaments that also tend to get expensive for me. Someday I will make the trip.

    I'm sorry, but I can't look at the Westgate and not think that someone just hastily slapped a sign over the LV Hilton.

    What are the criteria for the bad beat jackpot where you were? I am assuming that JJ didn't quite make the cut?

    • @BradOwenPoker
      @BradOwenPoker  6 лет назад

      I'm not sure if there is one at the Westgate but usually it's at least Aces Full beaten by Quads or better.

      Somehow it didn't get in pf 🤷‍♂️. The guy said he wanted to fold pf and on the turn. Not sure I could've gotten much more out of him.
