Virginia Archery Opener!!! | “All About The Hunt & Not About The Kill” |

Was up before dark on my way to the mountains of Virginia to chase down a buck I call “Muley”. This stud of a 9 point has a split G2 and when I first saw him this summer I thought he looked like a mule deer so the name stuck. I hunted over a creek bottom scrape that I have been prepping the majority of the summer and is below the camera where I had Muley in velvet and right out of velvet. After hunting that morning till about 10 am the wind change in a direction that was not in my favor. I changed a few cameras around due to not getting service to my cell cams and trying to find better sign to hunt over and maybe have a chance to find Muley or another mature mountain buck. It seems to be in this area that the white and red oaks did not produce as much as I hoped. Maybe that could be from the lack of water/rain or just an off year for acorns. I did find a small rub. Probably from a young buck, but it did perk me up to find something. Oh well! With the lack of sign and the odds not in my favor it should just make me better at scouting and an overall better hunter.
