    Having to limit a continental animal pack to just one animal per continent sounds like a fun exercise to me, Imma have it in your comment section right here if you don't mind.
    Africa has had most of their animals groups represented, even if primates aggressively got the short end of the stick.
    For the safe choice, I expect an antelope, like maybe the Hartebeest or Greater Kudu. Something that says Megafauna. For slightly spicier, I would use the Marabou stork or the Shoebill, to showcase that Africa has further diversity of fauna than just the animals; especially with the Shoebill representing Wetlands instead of just savannahs or deserts again. If you want even spicier, the helmeted guineafowl actually has cultural significance to people in Africa (and beyond) and would be a unique animal standing in for both the colorful birds and the savannah animals of Africa; while being spread over large portions of the continent, thus likely being reasonably familiar to African players.
    Ideal pick: Helmeted Guineafowl
    North America has had most of its notable big species represented by now, so let us look here for the exhibit animal. Let us go for an easy option here, with the red-eared Slider. Something safe, an animal that represents both the US and Mexico while looking pretty neat.
    ...Because somebody had to get saddled with the exhibit animal, so getting a popular one feels like the best bet.
    Ideal pick: Red-eared Slider
    Antarctica! Time for another penguin. The Adélie penguin is one of the few animals that is found on the mainland of Antarctica, and is also seen in zoos! Sometimes. Maybe using the antarctic Gentoo Penguin would be a more popular choice, but I feel like sticking to the challenge takes precedent here.
    Ideal pick: Adélie Penguin
    Asia. A gigantic continent, with a diverse collection of fauna. Few animals are found in all of it; but in the end, the Asian, or Sand badger is a species that is found across a quite large portion of Asian mainland countries. I would probably have tried to look for a fitting flying bird instead, if those were an option, though.
    Ideal pick: Sand badger.
    Europe! Europe is pretty boring, and most of the European megafauna has already gotten represented. The most notable and still sensibly widespread European mammal I could really think of was the Alpine Marmot. It is find in, well, the Alps, which stretch through parts of central Europe. A bit of a paltry showing, but we have just about every other mammal in Europe already represented.
    ...Every other animal in Europe?
    Nope! In a corner of France (and a dozen assorted other countries), a small Caprid is left over!
    The Chamois, assuming you don't care about forcing all the subspecies together, is a beautiful goat with a similar (read, mostly Alpine) distribution to the Marmoset, though it has farther range; and also, while it does extend slightly into Asia, is associated enough with Europe that I am willing to "break the streak" for it, so to speak. Somehow it is also the largest species included so far, but whelp, planet zoo kinda already cleared off most of the Megafauna, so that's really on them if you ask me.
    Ideal pick: Chamois
    South America! Red howler.
    Ideal pick: Red howler monkey
    Australia. Obviously, time for a marsupial. The Western Grey kangaroo has a beautiful little face, and is a nice relatively large animal to round out this roster of dwarves. They are found across large parts of the continent (most of the lower half of it in fact) and the facial pattern differentiates them just enough from grey specimens of all the other kangaroo species that, considering this packs parameters, they still feel like a worthwhile inclusion. You might want to swap them out for a more interestingly colored wallaby instead, but for the purpose of this list, I will stick to them.
    Alternatively, the freshwater crocodile might also make a good, interesting, and honestly, roster-wise unique inclusion. Another animal worth considering is the Perentie, or Giant monitor, a beautiful, if small animal. And well, you could probably have an exhibit spider too, if you want to be boring. I guess in that case maybe the North American Porcupine would be a sensible replacement to the terrapin, but Imma keep my list as is for now.
    Ideal? pick: Western Grey kangaroo
    So, for the last animal in this pack (turns out there are 8 animal pack slots and 7 main continents), we can go one of two ways. Either use an animal from New Zealand via Zealandia (The Kakapo or Kea are the obvious picks here), from the Indian subcontinent (because while it is attached to Asia now, it used to float on its own, and Europe has less of a basis for the claim of being a continent than that), which well, I guess the Blackbuck would be neat enough.
    I choose, instead, to go with an animal that was represented on pretty much every continent.
    That's right, the Clever Human (Homo sapiens)!!!
    ...No, no, of course just joking there. Domesticated animals are my vector here, and the most noteworthy domesticated animals who don't have a spiritual wild relative representative in the game yet are chicken. So yeah, the Red Junglefowl is joining the wild boar and water buffalo in the "animals who got their asses domesticated" club. A small bird, obviously, and while it has very similar vibes to the Helmeted Guineafowl, I feel like that kind of works for this pack. We ARE criminally short on birds, even ones who should really match the sensibilities of roster selection, after all, and these two are both a good way to have colorful, interesting looking birds, while also continuing to skimp out on proper aviaries.
    Ideal pick: Red Junglefowl.
    Full roster, sorted by size(ish):
    Red-eared slider, Red Junglefowl, Helmeted Guineafowl, Sand Badger, Adélie Penguin, Chamois, Red Howler Monkey, Western Grey Kangaroo.

    I was so confused at first lol Continental is kind of a bad title for this type of pack, considering it's more commonly used as one of the main 5 climate zones of the planet lol and since we have gotten packs like Arid and Tropical which are 2 of the other 5 main climates zones, Continental would be quite misleading

    Two questions, Reggie: What are the biomes and continents for the animals of Continental Animal DLC? Is there any updates that the peeps who highly requested, including that the biomes added for the Timber wolves(Desert, Grasslands), African Lions(Desert), Jaguar(Desert), and others, etc.?

    I wonder if a Sri Lanka pack is a good idea because there isn’t that many animals that are actually Sri Lankan and yes the Indian elephant map in the zoopedia and I wish I have a Sri Lankan elephant and I know that they look like a reskin of the Indian elephant but they could do a couple of model differences like the head being higher than the body etc in planet zoo

    • @redpandareggie3642
      @redpandareggie3642  6 месяцев назад

      Well I think an all-round Indian Subcontinent Animal Pack would be great to compliment the Indian Theme in the game, as combined, India and Sri Lanka, as well as Pakistan, Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh have plenty of animals that would make great additions to the game, not to mention a potential tropical leopard too, King Cobras, Gaur, Blackbuck, even Markhor can fit in this pack to showcase the diverse range of landscapes that exist in the region

      I would have included them, but they aren’t actually on the animal wish list over on the planet zoo forum, probably because we already have the King Penguin which is a much more common species in captivity. But they aren’t highly requested enough to be in a pack that would likely be planet zoo’s last, which is a better opportunity to get all of the community’s most requested species added in
