Thanks for this video. It was a pleasant surprise. It was like going back in a time capsule. Great to see how the school use to look. I remember the spot I use to get up early for so I can get it. Thanks.
Wow, so cool. I moved to Hialeah in 1984, and I was in 6th grade in Jan of 1988. My sister's boyfriend (later her husband) lived right across from Hialeah High, so I knew this area really well. I lived across the street from the basketball courts at Palm Springs Middle school, in West Hialeah. It was so different compared to now. I live in Davie and I hadn't been down to Hialeah for like 10 years until this last week, and I couldn't believe how much traffic there was! There was always traffic in Hialeah, but it was not like it is now. It was noon, and every street was bumper to bumper traffic, and the drivers are still some of the worst you'll ever see lol. Had a couple swerve into my lane without looking or putting on their turn signals, and I was like "ah, yes. This is the Hialeah that I remember".. I grew up there and have SO many memories. My family is Cuban, and almost my whole family moved to Hialeah after arriving in the US from the early 60s until some later on in the early 90s.
The basketball courts are gone. They constructed a new building next to the cafeteria. I've lived in Hialeah since 1968 and went there. Graduated class 1984. My daughter graduated from HHS in 2022 had the same teachers I did and the teachers remembered me. Hialeah has changed a lot and has changed for the worse. It's not the city of progress.
Yes, the exterior looks substantially different these days. I moved from Miami to Hialeah in 1965. I graduated from HHS in 1971. I moved out of Hialeah in 1989, over a year after taking this video. Leaving was way overdue. Hialeah was not the same anymore. I visit every now and then, but I do not like what I see. I miss the old Hialeah!
Used to live on 47th Street. The white Toyota and white Buick Riviera belonged to my grandparents. I jumped that fence to play basketball and on the field many times.
This video is from January 1988, in case you did not notice the date and you wanted to match it against the time your grandparents were living across from there.
By this time they had air conditioned class rooms. They got them the year after I left 81. Anyone remember the WALL? Anyways, I forgot how long that school was.
When I filmed this video, it had been over 16 years since I had graduated from HHS. At that time all students spoke English and about half could speak Spanish and many could write it.
I need more videos like this of Hialeah from back in the day! This is extremely cool!
Thanks for posting on FB.
Lot has changed from 2002 when I went there to this video in 1988.

So you were there when Chris corchiana played
Can you imagine what it looked like in 1955? It didn't look like the penitentiary then.
I went to HHS 1991. I remember how I hated it but you don't know what you have until is gone.

What is the 'WALL' besides the obvious
@@tropicalpalmtree let's just say there was lots of weed in Hialeah. Still is
@@tropicalpalmtree from when I went , the wall was outside of the gym where it was this specific spot to hang out or to meet up..awesome times !!
Very much how it was when i was there in 90-92
92 graduate
Best times were from 67-79 before the Mariel

FUN FACT: From above you can see the school 🏫 is shaped like the letter H. 305🔥
My dad lives a couple blocks from here

Short of the chain-link fences that how I remember it '68-'70.
