Pro tip from a pro chef: anything fresh out of fryer oil needs a hit of salt. You lose a good bit of salt in the oil and then there is the mantra of any good chef: Season at every step!
But what if it becomes too salty?
Remember your ABC's:
Always
Be
C tasting whatever you're cooking so you know if its properly salted
but you only season tomato sauce at the very end
@@extrules So we can know when to C-son it.

lmao that store is super sus to be selling 2 year expired mustard.
to be fair it says 'best by' so it's not really expired. i think mustard lasts a few years after the best by date if unopened
I saw 2017 and I was like "oh it's old" and after seeing this comment I was reminded that "OH SHIT IT'S OCTOBER 2019" because my sense of time is shit lol
@@pb7199 doesn't matter.. no store should be selling outdated food
@@Ena48145 the dates on products are simply put there by the factories that made them ,when they think it's the freshest ,best by or sell by dates are not regulated by fda or anything food related governerment
@@lady_miia9345 @M M both of you are correct, unless it's a perishable item the dates are just guidelines but shops have a responsibility to check their stock for items past their date becuase they /could/ actually make someone sick if they didn't look at the date. that being said if i had bought 'expired' mustard i would just google if it was safe to eat and return/exchange it if it wasn't.
why don't you try epicourious's four-level of whatever? it could be burgers, grilled cheese sandwiches or mac and cheese.
ElMonoloco7890 This is a great idea. The problem with that show is you have no one judging which is better. It would be great to hear David’s opinion.
Omg that is an underrated comment
ElMonoloco7890 they don’t show measurements in their videos so it’d be a big pain for him. It’d be interesting to see but I can understand why he doesn’t. Unless I’m mistaken and the ingredients are posted somewhere
@@telurik9183 they sadly do not have the exacg measurements/recipes for the food shown on that series. I hope epicurious gets to post those soon bc some of the food look great!
Do they give the recipe in the description box tho?
but this isn't even BA's full recipe lol. Using the proper bread actually makes a big difference.
Shorae not to mention using the right kind of hot sauce! We make it with Crystal and milk break and it’s so good! ALSO I use kewpie
@@katzama12 I agree with the milk bread but the hot sauce is totally preference. Actually the only way I think tasty won is because that recipe was from a mom . And mom cooking is the best. Also, If we're playing fair... you should know that Tasty's version is more of a Japanese take on the sandwich which ALSO uses milk bread and Kewpie mayo.
I always think hot sauce is based on preference and Chris doesn't really specify what hot sauce to use. Also if the milk bread is such a deal-breaker then Tasy should have the advantage (Hitomi uses milk bread too). So the bread factor is the same on both of them and if Tasty still comes out as good as David said then I think Tasty deserves this win.
@@jannatulshoilee1443 yea definitely, I was just stating a major component in it. I've made both with milkbread before and they're equally good tbh
@@katzama12 this kid always cuts corners or makes really odd ingredient choices, i.e. using romaine lettuce instead of iceberg. He must live in an area of the US where there are not a lot of food options.
Pro tip: anything at the front of the rack is going to be the oldest more often than not. Definitely doesnt excuse expired mustard tho that's nasty
Although true, it's usually the most recently checked which is why it's kinda gross.
I just made BA's 2 days ago and I've made it probably 4 times since the video came out. Needless to say, my wife keeps asking for it.
Matthew Boston I’ve made it probably three times in the last month and a half!
He did like the BA's sendwich, he just liked tasty's better.
I've tried allot of katsu sandwiches including tasty's but none of em comes even close to Chris's katsu
Celine cats sandwiches....*imagines my poor kitty stuffed between two pieces of bread*....why
RandomAlienFromMars 0 I was like "...wut?" When I saw the reply, but then I saw the (edited) on the comment
I love that you're tasting the food right away instead of waiting until you do your outro. :)
maria pizza i don’t think he tastes his food right away. if you’ve watched other videos you can tell when it’s been sitting for a while.
his intros and outros might just be pre filmed though but i don’t think he eats the food right away
@@nathanm2514 I think he started doing it recently after hundreds of comments suggesting that he eats it right away.
Jannatul Shoilee possibly

Mind blown hahaha🤯🤯🤯
why did i decide to watch this while i was already starving
And I actually won't be learning from this mistake, I'm definitely doing this again
girl, i always end up watching his videos when I’m hungry. It’s the absolute worst. 🙄
He still didn't really give Tasty the win in this. BA's dish needs to be recreated accurately :p
Isn't it already accurate? Isn't The tasty one not accurate? Cause he didn't use the right mustard?
Adeline Charish no there’s differences and also he deep fried the chicken so it’s probably going to be better...
Adeline Charish No, he didn’t use the right bread or hot sauce for BA’s. which would honestly make a difference since he was saying that he didn’t like that it was not toasted but with the different bread it could’ve tasted better
Nathan Myles But Tasty uses milk bread too!
Jannatul Shoilee that could’ve made a difference too for whether or not he liked it then 🤷🏻♂️ just seems super biased
It’s Tasty vs BA...
I think we all know who *Actually* has the best recipe for everything ever.
PiercedBitxh Aila it depends on personal preference
I honestly don't believe plain cabbage can be better than lettuce, but you do you.
plain raw cabbage is so bitter to me.
@@bongchoof yea exactly
Batuhan Berkol everyone has their own opinion
@@maraisfan4life517 yea that's why I said you do you, I'm not bashing anyone. This is my opinion and that is his.
if theres any greens on the katsu sandwich, its usually cabbage.
he really wanted tasty to win once, tried the Katsu sandwich of Chris and it blowed my mind
Kimberly just because it blowed your mind, it doesn’t mean it blew his
...Irish mustard is not the same as Chinese hot mustard. My eye twitched every time he said sriracha was hot sauce. Chris' recipe was supposed to be a Nashville hot chicken version of katsu. Sriracha is a chili paste based sauce and won't have the same profiles as an even basic Frank's red hot sauce. I personally substituted a cabbage slaw made with the remoulade instead of shredded lettuce. Using milk bread would further amplify the flavors. I think the wrong ingredients ruined the recipes for this episode
Not much he could do considering the Chinese hot mustard was 2 years old. So he had to substitute it with a different one that was still spicy.
Hm just to be more accurate to the Japanese chicken katsu sandwich, it would have been better to use Kewpie Mayo and Japanese milk bread
It isnt easy to get milk bread everywhere.
@@philaphobic yes it is
@@jadejaguar69 um... no.

“Minimizing food waste” yeah but almost everything is in plastic packaging, plus all the packaging in the box, the fuel to transport the box. Blue apron IS NOT environmentally friendly.
Sarry Berry go hug a tree
John Smith chill not dissing David, dissing a company that uses a lie as a selling point
Saved by grace lmao fr they gonna get people to hand deliver it on horses
I’m pretty sure “Minimizing Food waste” refers to minimizing the waste of food (as in instead of buying something you’re going to use once then never or rarelt going to use again, youre just given ingredients of exact quantities) not waste in general, but you do have a fair point with their use of plastic and the general waste they produce
Tis I, FancyFangs yeah it does minimize food waste, but food waste is compostable it reusable, the plastic packaging, ice packs, and the delivery are EXTREMELY inefficient and not healthy for the environment.
So tldr: “fixing” one problem while creating a bigger one.
I love the background!!! You did a good job David☺️
Just wanted to say.. I can definitely tell how much time and effort you put into the background & videos in general! Keep it up!
Nice video man, appreciate your effort.
Sigh reminds me of katsu sandwich I ate back in Japan. Ugh the best katsu sandwich. I swear, Japanese sandwiches are so fluffy and not overwhelming ❤️😭
This was biased because you wanted Tasty to win bc they never do 😂. And you tweaked BA’s recipe by not using actual hot sauce.
Not to mention he didn’t use milk bread for bas
Or salt it when it came out
Not to mention he used the wrong mustard and cock sauce is not like regular hot sauce. All in all i would rate his cooking a 10, but in following directions i would give him a 5.
SeanTheBrackMan cock sauce that’s gæ don’t you made cocktail sauce
Tasty's is closer to a Japanese katsu sandwich. The milk bread and hot sauce won't make as much of a difference as you'd think.
Yassss my boi got a blue apron sponsor!!!!!!!!💜 I'm so happy for him😊😊
I just want to say, THEY BOTH HAVE WEBISTES WHICH YOU CAN GET THE EXACT INGREDIENTS AND STEPS FROM!
Guess all good things must come to an end. I will miss that background. Nice sandwiches
I’m early for once!! Hi David!!! I love youuu and your flannels we have matching ones
As a Brit, I'm forever confused at why most guys across the pond just can't get their head around the correct pronunciation of Worcestershire (it's pronounced "Wustershire")
Because the spelling - pronunciation relationship of the word barely makes sense.
My brain knows how to say it, but my mouth doesn't always cooperate.
I love making chicken Katsu but I used extra thick bread slices and I marinade the chicken in miso paste first. Soooo freaking good . I also add the tiniest bit of toasted sesame oil in my katsu sauce.
Made this tonight for dinner thanks to your video. Thanks!
you literally coulda just toasted the BA one...
that wasnt in the recipe :/
sakura ala neither was the thick cut bread (chrus used milk bread)
Thats a nice way to crack eggs
no its not. most of the time the eggs arent really cleaned all to well
@@000AnnA000D it's a joke...you know that right?

Raghhh! David! Why do you miss the finer points of the recipe! Tasty’s katsu needed japanese mayo which tastes different then American mayo! Any Asian grocery store in NY, NJ should have this and if not Mitsuwa in Edgewater NJ definitely does!
I made the BA version for my family and they went by fast
Yay! I was waiting for you to upload, this made my day 💛
I love watching your channel grow! Congrats, my friend. You deserve it.
Looks so yummy!
Yay! You deserved to be sponsored!!!
well I know all of this just the guy preference at the end.. my team and I make the three version of sandwiches including these two for volunteer work in two small hospitals.. turn out majority take Chris's version taste the best.. oh! I follow all proper method and ingredient since its easy to get and done~ Idk tho why he need to compare the two while makes change here and there.. seems not okay for me.. but hey! its his channel! he can do anything he want to.. be bias or not.. its his decision.. 🤷🏻♀️
This summer I did the Tasty recipe, but with porc cutlet. Amazing !
Ngl i love when David decorates his backgrounds.
That sauce for the second sandwich is pretty similar to something my mom does in a chili-like dish she does.
Tip for the future-that mustard that had never been opened? TOTALLY FINE to use. I promise. Most things can go 1-3 YEARS past the recommended expiry, especially things like mustard.
I'm not even sure it goes bad, lol. It has so much vinegar and the well seal, if anything, it would just begin to dry out.
You should try the 100 layer crepe cake!😀
Why does he only have 400k? He's so dedicated
To all you Bon Appetit fanatics out there, both recipes are delicious and you should not care about which recipe is better in David’s mind
Good ad by the way. Also the video was good!
David can you please test a recipe from preppy kitchen PLEASE
(doesn’t matter which recipe)
i love preppy kitchen
Yeeesssss
Your egg smashing game is wild!
love tasty vs BA videos x
To all the BA fans that are mad that BA didn't won... I just want to say I won't disagree with you guys cause I'm also a BA fan. But I would say Tasty won pretty fair here. A lotta people are complaining that David didn't use tje right bread for BA's recipe. But If the milk bread really was a deal breaker than Tasty would get an advantage as well because in the original tasty video, Hitomi ( the producer )uses Japanese milk bread as well. Second the hot sauce. Chris clearly said in the BA video that you can use any hot sauce based on your preference. And David really likes shiracha so that won't be a problem. And I won't lie tasty's recipe was more like a homey japanese sandwich that your mom would make which I think makes it a little special. Mom cooking is the best :)
I just started the video, but had to say: I've tried Chris' (hope I wrote that correctly), and it's fricking delicious, if you like tasty's I'll have to try it too.
The mustard isn't fresh in exactly the reason it's first on the shelf. They want to get rid of the older product that's why when I buy milk or other foods that go bad easily it's better to buy the one in the back.
he really just cracked the egg like that
Twice!
Love how David casually cooks in a Teddy Fresh hoodie
There was NOTHING wrong with the unopened mustard. It literally doesn't go bad. You'd have to own it a decade or so.
David is the dropping the egg in the bowl on purpose 😂😂
yayyy david got a sponsor!!
“Cranes in the sky” by Solange!

Okay I seriously want to make this

A great stand-in for katsu sauce is A1 steak sauce. There's a lot of overlap in the ingredients, and sometimes I turn to A1 if I can't find katsu sauce. I don't use it for steak, though.
david your my favourite youtuber
I went with Chelulla for the hot sauce and it was excellent! Not sure about Sriracha Chris did mention to use a vinegar cayenne style hot sauce.
I also added quite a bit more garlic powder and it really amped up the flavor from the original recipe. Granted it was by accident the first time. I did 2 tbsp isntead of tsp lol. But I really liked my first version with more garlic!
Mustard lasts 2 or 3 years past it's best before date because it's a preservative, just so you know

As much as I love BA, I have to say that everyone asking for milk bread should remember that Hitomi uses milk bread too. I think tasty's recipe is actually better for this one.
this has nothing to do with the vid but i love the young the giant in the background.... my favorite channel and my favorite band AND my favorite bon appétit recipe??? all in one??? can i subscribe again????

Not entirely relevant, but get the Italian Panko breadcrumbs. I live with the Italian side of my family and they love it. Panko is def the best type of breadcrumbs out there
honestly my favorite thing about halloween is the crazy halloween background
At least I know I'm not the only one that loves sriracha sauce
Maybe a hot take? But cabbage provides a fresh crunch which is almost always good.
