Projects that infuriate my husband...

- I put a 150 Decibel Train Horn on my Golf Cart.
When my golf cart broke down last week, I knew I was going to have to re-wire a bunch of things and fix it's battery charging port, so I looked around for a ridiculous "improvement" project to do while I was at it, and boy did I find one, in the form of a 150 Decibel Train horn. I recently saw a Luke Bryan video pranking his wife with a train horn on his truck, and I immediately knew what I needed to do: put a train horn on my golf cart! Adam begged me not to do it, showing me a whole bunch of videos comparing the sound levels of the 150 db horn to other commonly occurring sounds, but of course it didn't work. I have always loved pranks and mischief, and this seemed like the perfect project for that. The best thing about this project was that I don't know anything about wiring, electronics, wiring, or what goes on under the hood of an electric vehicle, so I had to figure it all out. As far as modifications on a battery golf cart went, I needed to fix the charging port on my golf cart, install a horn on my golf cart, and install an LED light on the battery powered ezgo golf cart. The only peek into this world I'd had prior to attempting this project on my own was working on the alternator and starter for my 1953 Chevy with Isaac and putting the light bar on the front of my golf cart with Caleb. But I was totally on my own in this one. There was a ton of frustration, and of course, everything took way longer than I expected it to, but when that charging port worked, when the golf cart turned back on after being completely dead, when I flipped the switch and turned on the light, when I honked that horn for the first time, I felt so strong, so empowered, so excited about the other possibilities that figuring out this project opened. I use this golf cart for literally EVERYTHING on the farm, from feeding and watering the animals to moving fences and as my transportation back and forth to the milking parlor. The three days I didn't have it while it was broken down made my daily chores totally miserable. Hauling 5 gallon buckets of feed and water back and forth across our acreage to feed the animals, carrying fencing and my 85 pound charger across the field by hand in 92 degree heat, carrying garden produce in a bucket up and down our 1/4 mile 30 degree grade driveway several times a day without the cart was totally miserable. It really made me appreciate the cart so much more! And, until I get my 1953 Chevy running, I don't have a car of my own, so this thing gets a lot of mileage on the farm and around the neighborhood. Re-wiring my golf cart I learned how to pick the proper gauge wire, the different ways "positive" and "negative" energy acts on a battery, how to strip wires, how to crimp wire ends, how to heat shrink wires, that batteries need distilled water regularly added when they regularly charge, how to use dialectic grease properly, how to clean battery terminals, and how simple contact buttons work. I'm not great at math, but is a Train Horn+ Golf Cart = Bad Idea??

Laughed my a** off. Loved the outfit and the fun. Thanks
I knew a guy who put a locomotive horn on a pickup truck. He would hang around crossings and scare the poop out of people when they were driving over the tracks.
Glad you enjoyed it Jeff!
hahaha oh my gosh that's terrible. And awesome.
Heatshrink over your ratchet handle can greatly reduce arcing risk when working near large batteries.
Fantastic project. Love the vehicle. Thanks for sharing that with us.

great video! You are having way too much fun, love it! That golf cart is indispensable.
It really is!
heads up, if you happen to smell a burning again, often times it is the forward/reverse switch. Great to upgrade to a heavy duty switch.
Great tip!
Love the outfit :-)
I need that horn or a fog horn on my motorbike... instead of my pathetic horn .... when people try to take me out on the roads down here in NZ .
Haha heck yeah you do! People get outta the way real quick with these bad boys
When I had a little motorcycle that had a meep meep horn I dreamed of getting a tractor trailer truck horn for when people didn't bother to check their mirrors and attempted to run me over. Sadly the bike died before I worked up the gumption to do it.
You go Girl!!! I like it I like it. Train horn get addition to golf cart.
This was a fun one for sure!
Years ago I added a dual trumpet air horn to my motorcycle. A similar setup to what you have, with the 12V on demand air compressor. The factory horns were very melodious but not very loud. The loud horn gets you noticed when you need it. And when driving your golf cart on the road, you need it. So maybe that horn is not as ridiculous as you think.
I loved the video, you made me laugh. Especially after the horn was working. You're a truly energetic and exuberant person with a passion for life.
The loud horn has come in handy more than once already! Glad to hear I’m sharing some smiles, especially right now!
Thank you for making me smile. Yeah, I might just install one of those on my zero turn mower. Not because I have to, but because it would be annoying (to other's) and fun!
Hahaha you think the way I do :)
OMG Anne! I love it!!! 😁👌🏻 .... Between this horn, the mobile chicken coop, and your wonderful Conductor's outfit, it's giving me so many ideas for your cart, like a towable solar generator/toolbox/cooler for bringing power, tools, and beverages (and maybe even top up the cart batteries?)with you where you might need it around the property, a mobile solar cabin/cooling and refreshment station with AC and a frige/freezer for beverages, ices, and ice cream, or maybe a tiny towable mobile hand tool shop that looks like an old-timey caboose! 😃👍🏻👊🏻 ..... Adam 🤗
heck yeah! That's all fantastic!!
Gotta add a grill with a couple of side burners. Full tow behind shop w/ full kitchen.
you gotta love this woman. talented. crazy in a good way, and easy on the eyes. Can't wait to see what she does next. lol
What? How can anyone think that’s unreasonable and completely unnecessary to have such a horn on a golf cartI! It could be considered a safety device so other people on the road know that you are there 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣. I had a hard time trying to stop laughing from this video.
It’s actually already saved my dog’s life twice when the mailman came barreling down the driveway at 50mph. Got his attention just in time
I love my Club Car DS cart. Would be nice to upgrade to a "real" UTV, but the cart works so well!!! Just found your channel and love it!
You get it! I'd love a UTV too, but in my budget the cart was the best choice, and works really well, but I definitely push it more than I probably should!
With this train horn, Anne gone a be the Queen of a road yard😁❤️🇫🇷, poor Adam ...!!!😂😭😂
Yes!! I had a horn on my first car that sounded like a bull! The cows loved it.
hahaha I bet! The original intention of this horn was to make the animals get out of my way but they don't even care about it hahaha
You're NUTS! I love you! Hahaha! That's absolutely awesome! LOL!
Hahaha I’m glad you like it :)
Praying for your hubby. :)

Love the horn.
One of my most favorite videos of all time. You're such a badass! Go girl!
So glad you liked it! This was a fun one to make.
i love this soo much!! I am laughing right now!!
😁😁😁
good news for Adam, usually those "150Db" horns are actually 110-120db, far quieter.
Haha yeah there was definitely some false advertising there
What a neat Golf Card. Enjoy your Super Cool Golf Cart. They can't say they didn't hear you lol. Peace Be With You
Thank you!
It looks as if Adam doesn't appreciate the qualities that makes Anne such a wonderful creator... Just an observation.
Thinking I need a golf cart and train horn 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Everyone does
Now that's one loud golf cart Anne! Thanks for sharing the video with us!💖👌👍😎JP
My pleasure 😊
@@AnneofAllTrades 😎
IMO. the horn should be moved forward so you dont get much of the sound on the"cabin"
The way it's aimed I don't get it too bad. Putting it anywhere else would create a logistical issue with regard to mounting and keeping it safe from moisture and climbing goats :)
You are such a 'hoot'! I love your videos! Thanks to your incredible can-do attitude, I'm going to try building a small home also! Keep your videos coming!
When Adam said " you had this? ...THIS?" in regards to your outfit. In my head I'm thinking " dude, I feel you bro"😁
🤣🤣🤣
I hate to admit that it took me way too long to realize you were dressed like a conductor at the beginning of the video! (I did realize it before any proper shenanigans began though, so there’s that!). Love to see all the stuff you get up to, so please don’t stop annoying your husband! (And probably everyone in your general vicinity!)

I mean, of course you had to "improve" it when it was already in for repairs! I can't wait to see what you add next! Personally, I think I would have picked the space shuttle to install on my golf cart instead of the horn... 😁

Oh man, that's so awesome! But please believe me, you don't want tinnitus. 150dB will cause permanent hearing loss with any amount of exposure. I'd urge you to consider a 120dB horn: still stupid loud but not quite the sonic weapon you've got now.
Source: I'm an audio engineer with 20 years experience.
Hey I appreciate the kind approach to your suggestion. The best news is there was some major false advertising on the horn I bought, it’s definitely not 150 decibels, probably more like 110. Plenty loud to get the job done but not dangerous :)
😂 love it!
I just heard of you from Melissa K. Norris. I think we could be friends.

I sure love Melissa. One of the best friends I've found through the weird, wonderful world of homesteading Youtubing.

Anne of All Trades I guess you can say you’re blowin’ your own horn now. 😂
Great fun! Love the random videos. Adam you got to quit harshing the buzz.
every once in a while we've gotta break up the dovetails with some sillyness
You should make a wooden trailer or metall trailer for your golf cart. It would be great for hauling stuff actoss the property
I'm already working on one! Stay tuned!

Love your look during the presentation. And your project is goofy and fun. Nice overall
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you Anne! You are so such a joy! Being a railroad fan, that does sound more like a truck horn to me, but nevertheless, super, as always! :-)

I love it! Watching this I was thinking, how does she know how to do all of that? Oh, right, it's in the name. 😂 Now I'm wondering if my parents still have their broken down golf cart and if it's too busted to repair. 🤔
Haha if the last 6 months with my cart have taught me anything, nothing is beyond repair.
A local guy has an AD Chevy truck with a button that says "Push Me" on it. Of course people can't help themselves and get a real jolt when it sets off the really loud train horn. He's very popular at the car shows...for a little while! Lol!
HAHAHA omg I wanna do that on my chevy! that's great

Love the train horn! Might steal that from you. Ours has down lights, a light bar, a USB sound system, and we replaced the roof with a solar panel. Going solar has been fantastic! It's always fully charged... Just leave it outside.
That’s awesome! I want to know more about your solar system!!
@@AnneofAllTrades Happy to give you a video tour or something. Shoot me an email at keithroussil@mac.com
You might consider bending & threading a 1/2" cold rolled steel rod to make a bumper to protect the horn from brush or other things that could damage it. A ladder rack would be another useful addition.
This promises to be a constant project :)
Congrats on the mods. You need to add some flashing lights and GPS to it too. LOL
Hahaha I’m not sure I could drive far enough in it to get lost. And I’m already pushing it with the legality of taking it on the road as it is without the police lights haha
Did I miss the crimping stage before the heat shrink on the new terminals?
It’s a 7 min video, some steps were liable to get cut out ;)
Not sure Adam fully realises your sheer brilliance 👍😉
haha he has to put up with a lot, but he's a great sport.
When the ends of wires like you encountered have a lot of current going through them and point that is not clean and tightly connected together, will get hot, and hot enough to burn the insulation off that point. Your fix was well done, but those connections will need frequent attention. A high temperature grease covering over them will help keep oxygen in the air from assisting in their oxidation and deterioration, but won't eliminate the problem, just prolong the time before maintenance is necessary. Larger wire and heavier duty terminals would have less problem. Those motors draw a lot of power when climbing hills or pulling things. I also suggest that you add fuses between the battery terminal and your other accessories (horn, lights, etc. - those extra small wires that are connected to the battery terminal). The wiring for these will cause fires if a defective accessory or shorted wire occurs. Better to be safe and just have a blown fuse than have your golf cart catch fire.
Just helpful suggestions to keep you safe.
I very much enjoy your videos.
Great points, several of which I addressed briefly in this video and my light bar installation video- ie the dielectric grease and fuse boxes on the attachments. Thicker gauge wires and bigger terminals will definitely be something I look at when I’ve got access to more diverse supplies, ie, after the pandemic ;)
Trainnnnnnn Hornnnnn
It is fun to fool around, but also true: 150dB is way too loud. Stay safe Ann!
There's no way it's actually 150db, I think there was some serious false advertising on the packaging. It's not much louder than a regular car horn when tooting around the farm.
@@AnneofAllTrades That figure is probably a "one shot" rating derived from the kind of testing Photonicinduction does.

What's next? A burglar alarm with a pulsejet engine for the siren? :)
hahahahaha
Hmmm. 🤔
Well, as much as I like your new rides accessories, you might look into the legality of the horn on the road. Wouldn't want unexpected trouble. Keep having fun!
Oh not to worry there, it’s not on the road enough to cause any more problems than IT being on the road, this being a farming area and this being my main farm vehicle, there are a lot of exemptions at play :)
This is NOT ridiculous ! This a awesome car.
:)
I’ve been looking into batteries for my Silver Eagle Bus/RV conversation, and I’m at the process of figuring out my wiring. I’m no expert, but I was thinking... Is 6 awg maybe a little too small for your golf cart batteries? Maybe you should use a little thicker wire to prevent cable burning in the future?
All of the factory connections are 6g, so it should be fine. The burning was a result of a failing connection and a dirty terminal.
Poor Adam...haha
Haha
Anne..... I think we might be related! I put a ship horn on my riding mower!
I might need to put one on the tractor

@@AnneofAllTradesOne as the door bell would probably be the best. No more missing the FedEx express guy. Lol
......When connecting wires on the Battery one must have the "Negative cable " connected last....this prevents sparks should the spanner touch the "Positive post" and any part of the body work....
