I know you can’t comment but the mention of immersive cards from their respective pack almost guarantees an immersive Charizard, which is weird why they didn’t allow anyone to comment on it. 😅
0.05% chance of a rare pack, and if I'm understanding this correctly, the crown cards are only in the rare packs, and even then you have a 0.01% chance of pulling it from rare packs? So that's a 1 in 2000 chance of getting the crown cards? That is utterly ridiculous. Blatant gotcha scams like Genshin, NIKKE, and Honkai aren't even that egregious with there stupidly low drop rates.
The Pack Point system would somewhat negate the pull rate rarity. That's probably the reason that they don't have a pitty system for card pulls. Why modify a pull rate when you can just use Pack Points to get the card on the free model just by opening packs naturally? Obviously it's a grind, but, that is the cost of free play. Hidden Art cards would take 20 days for free, EX cards start at 62.5 days (As stated at 11:22), and the Gold Cards would take 125 days of free play.
@@TheMobiusTrap I would say that's a valid argument if it were more like the system in Master Duel where you can dismantle cards of a certain rarity and use the resources to craft a card of that rarity. But with the system described in this video, it's nothing short of predatory. It's forcing you to be dialed into the game at all hours of every day. Making sure to get your free pack exactly every 12 hours or risk making it take even more time to get the necessary points. And for the top tier rarities it can take over 2 solid months to earn enough points. The card you're after may not even be relevant by the time you get the points to craft it. There is going to be some serious backlash when this game drops, and I would say it's well deserved. They really need to rethink this monetization scheme.
When you mentioned the duplicates, do you mean those cards which are already in your collection turn into in-game currency (automatically?), or when there are two of the same cards in one draw, you get to keep one card? If it's the first one, trading is going to be high stakes since you can have only one of each cards.
So pack points are basically the pity system. Also, as a gacha vet, this sounds like really predatory drop rates and costs. That is how you upgrade your cards in Marvel SNAP!. The card upgrades are cosmetic; alternate images, nifty borders, holo effects.
Tbh this app is gonna be a HARD pass for me without a Pity system for pack opening, I can't tell you how many times I have had to spend loads of money to get one single card out of a certain pack, and this is coming from a Ex-MtG ( Magic: The Gathering ) player, I know how crap my luck is, I don't need a app to make me realize it and make it worst
I feel like Pokémon TCG Pocket, being a long-term game, will be here for a while. With that said, I like that you can connect with friends. You can use a custom code to battle or trade other players, whether locally or online. The best thing is the two free packs a day that will help with the ripping pack addiction some people have, and plus, if you want more, you can just buy more. Apex Genetic has 226 cards to collect.
I have no idea how it could happen, but it would be interesting. Hear me out. The cards do, or at least used to, post the levels of the pokemon on the cards. Integrate into home. Pull a playset of a card. Every 2 or 4 dupes you get depending on the rarity, can transfer that pokemon to Home
Austin, Thanks for all that you do bro! You really put in the work to be able to give us the great information you have for us in your videos. Keep it up bro!
Regarding splitting the Real Life TCG / TCG Live and TCG Pocket: I feel like this was pretty clear if you are into the actual game and not only into collecting. Pokémon do look weaker than the ones in the Real Lfie TCG and there are some new things like the "Energy Zone" ( if I remember the phrasing correctly) which is a mechanic that just does not exist in the TCG until now :D
It is sooo good to hear that it’s very beginner friendly and better that it is it’s own separate thing. Iv never learned how to play the trading card game and for me it’s a bit difficult to learn. But I am so looking forward to it
i doubt there will be any delays for release, they mention "first in NZ" probably because it is the first timezone, it'll most likely be releasing worldwide at once with slight hour differences. and on android people can always download the apk for a headstart while the official version is listed on their regional stores
Yeah nz gets a month head start I heard that when certain places get the game early they don typically wipe the data so most likely they will keep the progress. However it's not completely bad as you can cljust change you app store country to nz and download it when it releases in 3 days or if you are android you can just play on an apk version of it.
I know the combat is streamlined but, was it fun regardless? I hope so. I used to play the TCG and have very fond memories of it. I love card games and I miss them so much but, I have no friends and physical card hobbies are very expensive and make no sense to keep around because of a lack of others to play with. So, digital card games make more sense to me these days. I'm looking very forward to this! Those special cards that take you into the image are *so* cool and unique! I love everything about it!
so this is like an inbetween of marvel snap and yugioh duel links, i like it. i feel like this is gonna blow up because it caters a bit to people who dont really have time for 10 minute matches and also love collecting card versions of pokemon which is why snap got popular in the first place
So the question is: Is it free to play realistically, or money investment is necessary ? Edit: what I mean, because people are missing the point, is that its going to be pay to win like MiHoYo games or free to play realistically like FFT War of the Visions?
It’s like Master Duel. The best decks will be expensive to make, and there will always be a meta, but probably quite f2p friendly. I think what’ll determine that is how much they give at the start to create your first deck
From what i've seen, it's FTP, since you get cards everyday anyway.. you only get more cards faster by paying.. and since the pack is luck based anyway and no pity system, it's almost erase the need to pay, except if you are in a hurry to get a bunch of cards
I do wish the dupe points would be converted into pack points, or at least would be usable for them, but daily F2P playing and the potential to complete a collection regardless is pretty cool. And Rental Decks if your pulls have been bad is a nice touch too. Still haven’t learned anything about rewards from battles though. Do you get rewards from AI battles, or only from battling other players locally or online? Do you get dupe points, pack points, maybe other random cards not in your collection? Are there rewards at all? Might get this game. Since Pokemon Go hasn’t been in the greatest of spots for me, this might be what I really needed.
I cant wait to play pokemon pocket myself, glad to hear about AustinJohns thoughts about this, also gotta love how they had special devices to play pokemon pocket with basically infinite cash.
On trading cards I do worry about it opening up a second market. You can pay someone on eBay to get a card you've been wanting. Usually these types of games don't allow trading but it is called pocket tcg, so let's see how this goes lol. This type of game has a lot of potential though. Not being attached to the real tcg will allow them to do cool things like "throwback cards" stuff like that. Oh and thankfully it's vertical too lol
I didn't even know this was coming out but now that I know I am totally buying the monthly subscription and going to open my packs every 8 hours. It's gonna be awesome. Can't wait. I really wish I could play the game against the AI or people but I'm kinda doubting they have accessibility with my screen reader on my phone because most games don't have it. If they do have it, I am going to be pleasantly surprised and I'm going to love it, and I'll probably even put even more money into it. Well, who am I kidding? If it has that I will put more money.❤😂🎉❤
It is one company, one IP, one TCG game, and yet we don't have an unified virtual experience. Would be amazing for a TCG experience that integrates everything we got in a cohesive pack and a single collection.
@@NovaMaster375 I have been seeing this type of response a lot and am unsure to the reason. Is it because you believe that all OTCGs are similar to NFTs or something else?

You accidentally drop two NZ release dates in the video - one near the beginning (Sept 26), one near the end (today, the 19th), neither is the previously announced Oct 30th. Would you mind clarifying?
Yeah I was also confused about that, I live in NZ and it’s already past 6:00am PST, but it won’t let me download the app? So maybe it comes out on September 26th?
i accidently said the embargo date (today) at the end of the video. I'm trimming that out now. thank you for picking up on it. The date said at the beginning is the launch date 26th for devices registeredin NZ. Other regions are Oct 30th.
Funnily enough before I heard about this game I started playing the translated version of the 2nd gba game. I do have a renewed interest in the TCG but I think the current powers creep is insane. This game may be a good balance of modern pokemon tcg with somewhat balanced gameplay. I'll probably just start with the $10 a month for the hell of it then swap to free after several months to a year as well. I don't see myself actually paying for packs since I don't really get addicted to this stuff and I have a ton of other stuff to play. Overall I am excited.
I get what you're saying, but since there's no competitive at present the app feels like the literal definition of Optional. Like, most people say "if you don't like it, don't play" to be mean, but I honestly get the impression this app is sincerely Pokémon saying "oh, and also we have this if you want it 🤷♀️" and at that point there really is no exploitation unless you make it your own personal effort to be exploited. Since this isn't even connected to the official tcg app, just look at this as a portfolio: this app is just a place to keep cool pictures of Pokémon to look at when you're bored, and there's nothing wrong with that. If you can't remember to log in every single day... Google Images is your friend 🤷♀️
I’m looking forward to this because I’ve never been into the cards but I enjoy collecting. Probably going to do the monthly for a bit to see how I like it.
15:06 The same thing is for Belgium as well. I think it's because that there is no pity system. For example: Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero all give you a chance to get the limited 5 star if you fail your 50/50. If there is no pity system, it's more considered as gambling. Dragon Ball Legends also has no pity system and I can't download it on my phone without a VPN. So I think it's because those laws are to keep us safe from gambling addictions.
Imagine 10/15/20 years from now when the switch and this game/app gets the 3ds treatment and all the players paid for cards and packs get sent to the shadow realm. That'll go well.
in that idea, isn't any in-game item, custom skin, legendary roll on a weapon, or anything else an NFT? it's a digital thing that means something to you so it intrinsically has value.
@AustinJohnPlays hmm I guess if you look at it that way they did explicitly say that this was absolutely NOT to be compared to regular TCG so comparing it to what it really is puts a better light to it

I know you can’t comment but the mention of immersive cards from their respective pack almost guarantees an immersive Charizard, which is weird why they didn’t allow anyone to comment on it. 😅
Lovely video! Thanks for all the info. Looking forward to the game since I don't play Pokemon GO and that used to be my daily thing in the past.
Blatant gotcha scams like Genshin, NIKKE, and Honkai aren't even that egregious with there stupidly low drop rates.
yes. this being the absolute rarest cards. they're going to have low pull rates. But in 600 packs opened between us we got 3.
Gacha
@@AustinJohnPlays are you sure they didn't increase the rates for you guys?
Finally someone more reliable and knowledgeable than IGN
@@Polar87 i mean considering packs are dirt cheap it won't be that bad, like 1 dollar per 5 packs is wild,
@@breaknecktapsy Yea but for me personally it would take $100 STILL to even get the one card I'd need with my luck :-(
I feel like Pokémon TCG Pocket, being a long-term game, will be here for a while.
They won’t do that because they want you to use Pokémon go for that. They don’t wanna take that audience.
Yea you wish. Sounds like a whole bunch of work for little to no reward lol.
All my time banging CSGO cases has prepared me for this day!!! Great video as always!
Austin, Thanks for all that you do bro! You really put in the work to be able to give us the great information you have for us in your videos. Keep it up bro!
Huh....so it's not gonna be at the same time on October 30?
A month before release in New Zealand is crazy tho.
@@tonyc.2580 I was really thinking the same thing. Release says Oct 30th
Lol I noticed phillybeatzu in that pic..he made good guide vids on shiny hunting
we go way back
@@AustinJohnPlays that's cool
Thanks for sharing man, looking fiorward to the app release.
It is sooo good to hear that it’s very beginner friendly and better that it is it’s own separate thing. Iv never learned how to play the trading card game and for me it’s a bit difficult to learn. But I am so looking forward to it
You should try to learn it. Its REALLY fun, and to be honest, as a person previously in your position, it was worth it.
I am hyped for this app, the nostalgia of pokemon cards with a streamlined rule set its perfect hopefully the gotcha mechanics wont be too greedy
Any idea if this means players starting at soft launch will get a 1 month head start or will progress be wiped after?
i doubt there will be any delays for release, they mention "first in NZ" probably because it is the first timezone, it'll most likely be releasing worldwide at once with slight hour differences. and on android people can always download the apk for a headstart while the official version is listed on their regional stores
@@97MiloProductions But that’s the thing, NZ is getting access on Sep 26 whereas global launch is happening on Oct 30. That’s an entire month!
Can't believe I saw this as a private video earlier
🤯🤯🤯🤯
I think it's great one of pokemon and nintendos best ambassador's is being invited to pokemon events again!
The moment I heard “no pity system” is the moment I decide to give this game a pass. Lol.
7:14 Probopass
@@punuk promo pass probopass say that three times fast
so this is like an inbetween of marvel snap and yugioh duel links, i like it. i feel like this is gonna blow up because it caters a bit to people who dont really have time for 10 minute matches and also love collecting card versions of pokemon which is why snap got popular in the first place
So the question is:
Is it free to play realistically, or money investment is necessary ?
Edit: what I mean, because people are missing the point, is that its going to be pay to win like MiHoYo games or free to play realistically like FFT War of the Visions?
Its probably more along the lines of yes its playable for free BUT if you actually want to get anywhere or speed things up cough up some $$.
It's definitely free to play, but more than likely pay to win, like most gatcha games
It’s like Master Duel. The best decks will be expensive to make, and there will always be a meta, but probably quite f2p friendly. I think what’ll determine that is how much they give at the start to create your first deck
MiHoYo games are not pay to win. The only reason you'd have to spend money is to either get everything on release, or buy skins.
Way too predatory. Great video explaining it. Thank you.
I cant wait to play pokemon pocket myself, glad to hear about AustinJohns thoughts about this, also gotta love how they had special devices to play pokemon pocket with basically infinite cash.
No pity system with gacha mechanics is borderline evil
On trading cards I do worry about it opening up a second market. You can pay someone on eBay to get a card you've been wanting. Usually these types of games don't allow trading but it is called pocket tcg, so let's see how this goes lol.
This type of game has a lot of potential though. Not being attached to the real tcg will allow them to do cool things like "throwback cards" stuff like that.
Oh and thankfully it's vertical too lol
Round 2!
There was a fake copyright claim on a song so I had to change it out so they don't steal!
@@AustinJohnPlaysI’m sad that there seems to be little you can do if you wanted to keep that specific song
it was the battle theme from LGPE soundtrack. it's a bogus claim and im taking it up with my RUclips Rep
Came here to ask this, does this tie into the TCG cards at all?
@@RileyBrown it doesn’t according to the video
awesome review Autin! thanks!!!
This is so close to being NFTs it's surreal
first time hearing about online tcg's?
@@Conspirachu Eh not really. Pretty standard online TCG with Gacha elements.
Baby's first OTCG experience
@@NovaMaster375 I have been seeing this type of response a lot and am unsure to the reason. Is it because you believe that all OTCGs are similar to NFTs or something else?
@@Conspirachu No, NFTs are utter garbage. These are just normal systems used by a lot of OTCGs. The only comparison to actual NFTs is that they are digital images.
Thanks for the roundup of info!
3:30 sooooooo the immersive Charizard from the Charizard pack
@@Natrium-c6x shh.. he's not allowed to talk about that
You accidentally drop two NZ release dates in the video - one near the beginning (Sept 26), one near the end (today, the 19th), neither is the previously announced Oct 30th.
I'm not paying for virtual cards.. Why didn't they release a physical card set, and make special ones virtual. You don't actually own anything...
It’d be so cool if it was like e series
Nice vid, you should try defense loading. It's quite fun with this HGB. Keeps you spreading alot and tanking hits.
This feels really exploitive with the mandatory "Open the packs or lose it."
Having to log in once a day is at least better than having to do things/actually play every day to get your packs.
@@noraptorshere8206 and that negates the fomo, how?
I’m looking forward to this because I’ve never been into the cards but I enjoy collecting. Probably going to do the monthly for a bit to see how I like it.
This is a gambling game, tbh. Don't let kids anywhere near this.
*LOL*
15:06 The same thing is for Belgium as well. I think it's because that there is no pity system. For example: Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero all give you a chance to get the limited 5 star if you fail your 50/50. If there is no pity system, it's more considered as gambling. Dragon Ball Legends also has no pity system and I can't download it on my phone without a VPN. So I think it's because those laws are to keep us safe from gambling addictions.
Not releasing a physical card set at time of launch to go with a matching set in the app feels like a massive missed opportunity.
still love the champion flow song. eternally subscribed milord Austin John!~
Only OG's know this is a re upload.
Non private reupload😂

I am so excited for this. I won’t be paying for cards but you know there’s going to be someone paying outrageous money for packs. 😅
These just seem like NFTs..
💯 Oh they definitely are😂
Imagine 10/15/20 years from now when the switch and this game/app gets the 3ds treatment and all the players paid for cards and packs get sent to the shadow realm.
That'll go well.
in that idea, isn't any in-game item, custom skin, legendary roll on a weapon, or anything else an NFT? it's a digital thing that means something to you so it intrinsically has value.
@AustinJohnPlays hmm I guess if you look at it that way they did explicitly say that this was absolutely NOT to be compared to regular TCG so comparing it to what it really is puts a better light to it
You don't understand what an nft is..... This is just a gachapon game
wait so..... 12:00 so dupes turn into currency automatically? what do you trade with other players then?
Part of your own collection I assume, completely undermines the idea of trading imo
BEAUTIFUL! This may finally be the Pokémon we are looking for!
No way.
I like the idea of the Immersive Mewtwo and Pikachu cards these 2 pokemon are my all-time favorite 2 this game sounds like fun I've already Pre-registered for it I liked it from the day it was announced
This sounds exactly like a combo of Pokemon TCG My First Battle and early Pokémon TCG
Steve from the It’s Super Effective podcast! Cool
This app is sounding pretty hype, ngl! RIP at the lack of story mode, though. Anyone else remember Pokémon Duel? That had a story mode that as I recall was getting kinda good, and then they just ended the app.
This app makes me think of Duel Links to a point that the battle system is the pokemon version of speed duels from that game
