    Hi Panzer, greets from Germany. Thanks to your very informative workaround. I built almost the same sub enclosure for my 2003 MGM. I have used a 10" subchassis from "EXACT" which is very suitable for working with smaller amp power. Performs great so far.

      If you give an e-mail address or Facebook account, I could provide you with a pic of my install. The story of my MGM is quite long. Car is with me for almost 10 years and 100tmls now.Try to make the story short: A German BMW Manager worked for BMW in Spartanburg, SC and had a Lincoln Navigator. He was ordered back to BMW Munich Germany and had to find out that the Lincoln does not fit into the container. So the dealer gave him that white 03 MGM with only 35tmls on the odo. Back in Munich, I bought the car for a decent price after it was advertised for 5 months on a German car platform. Getting the technical approval for German roads is a different story..... adventure could describe that process well. Last but not least the MGM performs flawlessly with almost no issues as my DD over the summer months. 120mls on German Autobahn from MO-FR. She takes 10.8 liters per 100KM which I find more than OK for a 4.6. I had a lot of cars in my life, but this one is definitely the most reliable and comfy ride I ever had. And... never seen another white MGM over here, exept some Marauders.

    Trying to fit a 12" where the spare tire is or was took it out, since i already have x2 12" Skar Audio subs in the trunk but want my space back and just trying to make use of. Might have to go to a local stereo shop see if a custom box is affordable, plus in my Crown Vic where you put your sub there's a huge platic box type thing looks like it's housing a stock amp or something but anyhow it's in the way hence why my spare is out of the trunk. AAA comes in handy if i go on a long trip just toss the spare in the back seat.

    I'm having that same problem with a powered box next to spare tire firing up. I opened the stock sub vent and padding but it didn't help. The box is too wide to fire backwards. Before I got my Merc, both of these 10" subs were in my Vic.

      When I got my Merc, I made two new boxes. The one you see in this video, and another for the Vic that only holds one of the subs, but it takes up the same space on the shelf. You can see it on my gun rack video here;

      Yo Kyre,
      The first box I made for the shelf was for a single 12" facing upward. Because the max clearance is 11” to have the subwoofer to race reward.
      The first box facing upward did not sound that great because it was a sealed enclosure. So I went with a rear facing 10".
      If you go with a 12" on the shelf facing upward the box may need to be ported in some way to sound good. I prefer the tight bass of a sealed enclosure so that's why I went with a 10" facing to the rear.

      Hey Kane,

      Unfortunately, no it won't fit. And beleive me I tried. My first box was for a single 12" in a sealed box with 2.0 cubic feet on air space.
      The only way it would fit was firing the subwoofer straight up, under the parcel shelf. And there was hardly any bass.
      I thought about adding ports to solve the issue, but I don't like the sound of ported boxed.
      So you can definately fit two 12"s, but they're going to have to sit on the floor, basically taking up the whole trunk.

    The reason that you couldn't hear your bass when pointed up was due to phase cancellation. As it lies behind(under) the speakers in the rear ledge it now becomes 180° out of phase from the other speakers, they now work against each other, a simple amp adjustment to flip the phase should have fixed your issue. I believe, not an expert but that's all that makes sense in my mind

    • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform  2 года назад

      Right on Bruce,
      Thanks for stopping in.
      I actually tried that.
      Both my head unit, and amplifier have phase adjustments.
      I tried a few different adjustments, and the best sounding bass always came from pointing the subwoofer to the rear of the car.
      However, I've built several subwoofer boxes for hatchback cars that did not have a trunk, and pointing the subwoofer to the front of the car had the best sounding bass.
      This was years ago. I bet they now have some kind of 3-D imaging that will let you see the sound waves on a display to help figure out the best subwoofer box placement, and direction to face the subwoofer.

      The amp is a Class D Mono Single channel with a CEA-2006 rating of 400 RMS Watts x 1. I paid $400, and got it from Crutchfield. Kenwood Excelon XR600-1;

      So there’s definitely better, and much cheaper equipment to be had nowadays.
      But, I can’t justify replacing them because they still work. Lol

      @@PanzerPlatform Awesome! I was mainly looking for the size of the sub, cause I wanted to a do a sub box like yours and was hoping to fit a 10' sub. Right now, I've got Kicker DS series 6x8's in all 4 corners and they sound excellent, but the bass just isnt there. I really wanna do a kicker sub and amp, but I have to figure out the best sub and amp to work with the speakers. Thank you again sir!!

      That almost sounds exactly what I did 9 years ago.
      First I replace the stereo, and all four 6x8's. It was a huge sound quality improvement.
      But it lacked true bass.
      So I added two 10" subs, and an amp.
      Fast forward to this car, I replaced the stereo, and went straight to adding a single 10" sub, and amp, and I left the stock 6x8's in place.
      The stereo has built a crossover for the 6x8's so it blocks all the low frequencies so they don't damage themselves trying to reproduce bass.
      The overall sound quality is adequate. I'm in satisfied for what I paid.

      @@PanzerPlatform The kicker 6x8's were a huge improvement over the stock speakers, great sound and much better bass then factory, but still not good. My 14' Charger pursuit has its factory audio system and even the stock 6x9's in that shake the car with the bass. It sounds great! Basically I'm not looking for huge, facemelting mega-bass, but just something better then what I've got now. I love how clean unobtrusive your setup is. I wanna keep my full size spare and my trunk space so if I can mimic your box set-up, that'd be perfect. Thank you for all your info sir!

      Maybe research, under seat powered sub woofers. Those are great little space savers.

      Right on Doc,
      I beg for your forgiveness.
      After working on my 2004 Crown Vic, and 2010 Grand Marquis I've discovered the mechanical parts are 99% identical. So I use CV & MGM interchangeable.
      The dimentions of the box are the same.
      I have a similar box in my 2004 Vic.
      You can see it here; ruclips.net/video/IE3Hh4xuGpw/видео.html
      I appologize for the confusion.
      Btw, I've never seen you around here.
      Welcome to the club, prepare to be disappointed.
