The University of Minnesota created a hybrid that's wonderful for colder climates, like zone 4b, called Blue Moon Wisteria. I picked one up from a big box store last year as raw stock. Has much smaller flowers, but are a wonderful powdered blue. Absolutely recommend it to anyone in a chilly environment!
There is also the ‘summer cascade’ cultivar which I believe is W. macrostachya. Grows well here in WI! The blue moon wisteria grows nicely here as well
I have some "Blue Moon" wisteria, and I am lucky to have flowers after 3 years! All my wisteria grown from seeds from the mother plant not from online purchased seeds.
Bought a purple amethyst wisteria frutescens that has blooms on it. Removed the trellis, trimmed it up, already a great triple trunk or raft style. Left the few growing tips with the racemes. Everything else was cut back. In a few years it'll be a cool bonsai.
Payed 30$ for it at Walmart. Of all places, they had something interesting and actually worth it. I will need to do alot of rootwork, n a new pot, but it's the start of a wonderful tree.
Pruning is the same as if it was in the ground. In the UK its the 2 and 8 rule. Cut back 2-3 buds in February and 5-6 in August. Wiring needs close attention as its growth is so rapid.l

Finally a good video about Wisteria! It's hard to find on RUclips 😅 Thank you ! ❤️ I have two Wisteria I need to repot for the first time this year, what type of substrate do you use for this species?
Thank you for another fine bonsai video🌳 @Bonsai Empire! Can you please tell me about the type of soil you use for the Wisteria bonsai? I've found on your blog the following recipe for deciduous trees: 50% akadama, 25% pumice, 25% lava stone. However, given that Wisteria needs more watering then i.e. maple, how did you update the soil mix?
I thought there should be some information on flowering. Feed your wisteria with some fruit/flowering liquid fertiliser every 2 weeks when flower buds start to swell in late winter/early spring. Good feeding with a low nitrogen fertilizer and sun helps reduce leaf size in spring and summer.
Wisteria is also highly invasive in some climates (like southern North America), and can seed out of cultivated pots/gardens, so maybe make sure that is acknowledged. It's a beautiful vine though! I hate that it is so pretty yet can strangle some trees.
Not sure if using months as timings as I would say this is a global audience, and I think you are saying "cut back in July", but you may mean end of winter?

Makes me hopeful mine will flower early too 🤞🏽

Great video folks. Keep them coming.
Love wisteria!
This is great, thank you! I collected a mature specimen in the spring and really have no idea how to proceed with care or styling.

@@TheBrewersDroop thanks man, I appreciate the advice!
Hi, i have some wisteria bonsai. It´s very important to put a shallow bowl filled with water under the bonsaipot. Wisteria needs a lot of water.
Thanks for the tip! They need lots of water indeed.

Lindo bonsai de Wisteria
I love wisteria
I have a wisteria plant but I don’t know what size it should be and if I should let it grow for the trunk to grow thick or start now
Perhaps post some photos on our forum at www.bonsaiempire.com/forum so we can help you.
very good video full of information, thanks.
is it possible and easy to remove from soil with little root?
I've taken air layers with poor root growth and they've survived. Some die back but on a couple of branches but they're growing strongly now
Finally a good video about Wisteria! It's hard to find on RUclips 😅 Thank you ! ❤️
I have two Wisteria I need to repot for the first time this year, what type of substrate do you use for this species?
A standard soil mix (www.bonsaiempire.com/tree-species/wisteria)

I use our standard mix which is exactly what you mentioned. If you want a bit more water retention, add a higher percentage Akadama instead.

Nice sharing...👍

There are a few species that I cannot keep alive no matter how many times I try, bougainvillaea and wisteria are two of them.
Nice bonsai

How do you get the trunks to get so thick but short? Do you major prune and cut the stem of a year old really short?
Thật tuyệt vời

Good point - thanks
Ano, dulezita je lokace nebo urceni rocniho obdobi. V Argentine to je opacne nez u nas v Evrope.
How do you get the trunk so thick early?
Awesome
it’s 36-40°C outside in the summer here. I've some japanese wisteria seedlings. I am not sure if they can withstand the intense heat
Thats hot! Perhaps make sure they are shaded in the afternoon?
@@bonsaiempire Thanks. I was thinking about that as well.
Can anyone tell me the best time to prune the roots of my wisteria bonsai?
You can do that while repotting - so that would be in early spring usually once ever 2 or 3 years.
@@bonsaiempire okay thanks so much!
Like bonsai
What should I do if it’s leaves are yellow and has black dots on them

He looks familiar, but he looks really young. Must be an older but educational video 📹
I have to ask is wiseria poisonous to animals like dogs or cats?
Hm not sure, sorry!
Yes, the wisteria flowers and seeds are poisonous.
What about African Wisteria?
I dont have experience with that!
Wow, really? I have two. They are not much different from Japanese or Chinese just they are trees not vines.
👍🍎👌
